Ryan likens Obama plan to 'slick new brochure'

Bristol, Virginia (CNN) - Mitt Romney running mate Paul Ryan likened President Barack Obama's 19-page second-term plan to a brochure at a Virginia rally and called it a "slick repackaging of more of the same" at a Virginia rally.

"You know President Obama hasn't really given us a vision for a second term agenda," he said. "Just a couple of days ago he came up with a slick new brochure. You know, with less than two weeks left to say, 'Oh I do actually have an agenda.'"

The Republican vice presidential nominee was campaigning in Bristol when he criticized Obama for releasing a plan his re-election team compiled in a booklet so close to Election Day

As Ryan continued to mock the plan a man in the crowd interjected with his own description.

"It is a slick – well, comic book, that was his word – to me a slick re-packaging of more of the same," Ryan said.

On Tuesday, Obama's re-election team released 19 pages outlining the plans he hopes to institute if he wins a second term in office and an accompanying television ad set to air in nine battleground states. The booklet is largely a rehash of policies previously proposed, but is a response to critics who have charged the president with offering few specifics on his second term agenda.

When Ryan hammered the president on the economy he did not mention the nation's unemployment rate dipped below 8% last month for the first time in 42 months but instead pointed to slow job growth.

"You see, where we are today is our economy is barely limping along. It is slower than it was last year. Last year was slower than the year before. Job growth in September was slower than August and August was slower than July," he said at the outdoor rally that drew a crowd of more than 1,000.

In the heart of Virginia coal country the Wisconsin lawmaker and vice presidential hopeful called attention to people in the audience who were wearing blue hats that said "COAL JOBS" when he delivered his pitch on energy.

"I see all these coal hats out here," Ryan said. "We in Wisconsin we use coal, it keeps our electricity rates down, it keeps our businesses operating. You produce coal, it keeps good families supporting wages and jobs and this war on coal is going to end when we elect Mitt Romney the next President of the United States, I can guarantee you that."

Ryan cannot call Obama "slick" without answering to his own egregious packaging problems, like being unable to tell the truth.

I wonder if there's a slick picture of President Obama sneaking into the back of a Soup Kitchen w/ his hapless wife and kids and pretending to be preparing meals for the hungry and homeless...know anything about that Mr. Ryan?

The biggest security failure in US history happened on our soil, not in a foreign country, and it happened on the Republicans watch even after they had been warned “Bin Laden determined to strike in US.” Obama has kept the country safe and he did it without starting any costly wars.

You believe what you want but if you have nothing to hide you don’t hide it. Romney is a tax cheat and not fit to be president.

No doubt the coal and other energy voters will vote Romney. Obama despises oil&gas and coal. I have been in the energy business for 30 years and we are astonished at Obama's unabashed deception and credit taking for the shale boom – its pathetic. As far as his brochure its just more of the same liberal social policies that he focused on for four years instead of tryning to re-invigorate the economy. He went all in for the Kensnesian spending blowout and subcontracted it to Reid and Pelosi and we got stuck with $6T and the expected result (debt, payoffs to his budddies and thats it). If we get another four years it will be more fighting from Obama to pass more pent up liberal policies that will drag us towards Greece.

cool..i call the Romney/ryan plan a repackaged brochure of the same Bush jr failed policies that got us into the mess to begin with! How do i come to that conclusion? Among others, they want to increase defense spending while cutting taxes and regulations. Sound familiar?!?!

Obama looks ridiculous with that brochure. Like the 2008 GOP presidential candidate Giuliani showing us that one page tax return proposition. Remember him? look at Obama now.. desperate.

Ryan's budget cuts medicare, social security, health benefits, and gives tax cuts to only ONLY the wealthy.....why don't people take the time to read this...........if you had a brain you would vote for Obama. We are voting for Obama and we are registered Republicans.

  15. Oh, my!

That's all Obama has - a teleprompter and a brochure. The "president" of props! The "president" of Hollywood make-believe! The "president" with NO agenda other than to slam his opponent! Hee-hee - would be hilarious if it were not so sad. Not this time, Barry - we're on to your "resume" and "college records" of nothingness!

Mr. Ryan is casting aspersions and he is not realizing just what his team has done. Mr. Romney has given very slick statements without giving any details. Mr. Ryan is trying to grease the path tot he White House so that he and Mr. Romney can work to change all of the programs and policies that would help the 47%.

The problem with their rationale is that any percentage of people will include some slackers. Just because we receive food stamps or welfare does not make us slackers. They know nothing about us but that does not stop them from stating ludicrous generalities. Neither man understands anything about poverty, underemployed worker wages, hard-working Americans who are making a little more than minimum wage, etc. Both men are very wealthy and they have this mentality that we are victims, we are bilking the government and we are taking advantage of our fellow citizens. The people I know do not fit in their descriptions. They are trying to get people to allow them to make all these changes and to increase the number of people or families who are in financial trouble.

PLEASE, PLEASE, think very carefully before you vote,

Truth is you can package all you want. If the US does not get it its fiscal affairs in order it will fall like the Roman Empire.
Deficit is out of whack and major changes are needed. Obama had four years and it is not improving but getting worse.
More of the same is just not going to do it. Just how much is the USA paying to service this debt alone....not only that our economic leverage is in grave danger. Romney is a CEO, he knows how to balance a budget and make the difficult
changes that have to be made......just look at employment rate, food stamp user increase, poverty, all at increased levels. No balanced budget and increasing trillion $$$ deficits. If the US was an individual or corporation, restructuring or bankruptcy might be just around the corner.....

Some women just don't get it........Judi, that was not a well thought out comment. Slick Willy is giving Obama ideas on how to BS the country. Some are smart enough to read through it. Even Hilary did a cover up with her actions this last month. Think before you make your big life decision.

Yes, the coal workers in Wyoming need help too before they all lose their jobs. When you turn your lights on, don't forget where the energy is coming from.....Obama wants them all closed down and then they too will be out of work.
