Sheldon Adelson and wife give $10 million to pro-Romney super PAC

Washington (CNN) - Thanks to $10 million in new donations from Nevada billionaire Sheldon Adelson and his wife, the pro-Romney super PAC Restore Our Future raised more than $20 million during the first half of this month, according to a financial disclosure form filed with the Federal Election Commission Thursday.

The group had more than $36 million cash on hand, and spent $12 million, as of October 17.

The haul so far in October is almost as much as it raised in August and September combined.

The new contributions by the Adelsons bring the couple's total to Restore Our Future to $20 million.

Restore Our Future launched a major swing state ad campaign earlier this week, buying almost $18 million worth of commercial time in 10 states.

For the Adelsons, who rank as the top givers to outside political groups according to the non-partisan Center for Responsive Politics, this latest donation means they have given at least $61 million this campaign cycle to entities which have to disclose their donors: super PACs, campaign committees and candidates.

Mr. Adelson is a controversial Nevada magnate who operates casinos both in Nevada and overseas.

He has been the highest profile Republican donor this election cycle because of the growing influence of super PACs and his willingness to give to them. He and his wife donated millions to Winning Our Future, the super PAC that was largely responsible for helping keep Newt Gingrich in the GOP primary contest.

After Gingrich dropped out, Adelson was at first reluctant to support Romney. After several meetings and conversations, however, Adelson decided to embrace the Republican nominee. One reason, associates have said, is because Adelson is determined to do all he can to make sure President Barack Obama is not re-elected. Another key objective for him is the safety of Israel, and he believes Romney would be a stronger friend of the Jewish state than Obama, friends have said.

Adelson hosted a fund-raiser for Romney and went to Israel to join the Republican nominee during his July trip.

He has told friends he and his wife could spend as much as $100 million this election to help elect the Republican nominee and support GOP congressional candidates.

Wonder what Mitt Romney is going to have to trade off, to repay a "Gift" of this magnitude. Anyone giving a donation of such sizable amount, is going to require something in return.

A Romney administration would owe his children to Adelson plus a ton of tax breaks that would be paid for by the middle class

How many of you Republicans want to see Sheldon Adelson running the country? Romney/Adelson, corrupt birds of a feather.

. Romney says he will end Medicare and replace it with a voucher system so you can buy insurance, and pay rich insurance companies. He proposes replacing social security with a plan tied to the stock and bond market, eliminate veterans benefits and replace them with a voucher system. At the same time his plan will give the rich an additional 20% tax break. I think the only people who will benefit from these items are the banks brokers and insurance companies. It’s no wonder they are supporting him

What a blatant waste of money. This is an example of exactly what's wrong in the USA. People like this are giving millions to a confirmed liar and Flip Flopper Romney...a guy that has run a blundering failed campaign and that cannot articulate any ideas or plans. That $10 Million would have kept a school full of starving children alive for 5 years and instead the money is wasted on a Liar. This is repugnant the hypocrisy and injustice is so apparent.

This is what Citizens United has done to the U.S. Sure, Mr.Adelman is (I assume) an American citizen, but it is the height of arrogance and self-involvement to try to buy the Oval Office for your own personal ends and to hell with the other couple of hundred million U.S. citizens who haven't amassed a fortune bilking gullible gamblers. Adelman wants to hand the office of the Presidency to Bebe on a silver platter, and he couldn't find a more willing sock puppet to do his dirty work than Mittens..

Exatly how many kids go to bed hungry in the USA every single night ? And this guy has 10 millkion dollars laying around that he is going to give to Romney to fight against the poor ? Which he will. This is why people hate the rich, Because they could do so much good but choose to do so much wrong time and time again, Why because they are greedy and thing it will come back to them in one way or another,

This presidency is getting expensive it becomes beyond anyone dream unless you are well connected like MITT. Sorry, for the poor man and women voting for this man, ultimately they have to pay two times; once when they vote and then when Mitt becomes president and start paying back adelson investment.

$10 million in new donations from Nevada billionaire Sheldon Adelson.

Sheldon Adelson's generosity to Jewish causes should not buy our silence in the U.S. presidential elections.

The $100 million that Sheldon Adelson is supposedly investing in Romney is a lot of money – it's not for nothing !

    One Nation under Israel .

Keep donating millions Sheldon! You can't "buy" an American election. But it is fun watching you waste money. I think it would be cheaper for you to actually pay taxes, that help the American boys and girls get educated. Sad that this is what our Democracy has deteriorated to. Obama '12! Because the Right is completely immoral.

Hope Romney loses and Adelson loses all his money and realizes he is an idiot. Somehow I doubt his sincerity. Frankly I don't see what romney would do for Israel that Obama isn't doing, other than kissing Bebe's behind. Reality is Obama gets along just fine with the rational crowd in Israel, including the defense minister.

Apparently these casino owners, don't want to be taxed for income earned in Chinese Casinos.
And all the while they siphen off winnings to their foreign casinos, and show a losing balance sheet in America and pay little to no taxes.

    Want more, Vote Romeny.

The bad dye jobs can't pay taxes, but got millions in "contribution" money to buy influence with. The pro-Israel lobby has been so anti-Obama, they can't expect him to be open to anything they demand if he wins in Nov.
