Canton, Ohio (CNN) - As the standard-bearer of the conservative party, Mitt Romney may not draw as many Hollywood endorsements as his rival.
But what his celebrity backers lack in quantity they make up in unconventional appeal.

Case in point: aging rocker Meat Loaf, who wore a sequin-sleeved blazer to endorse Romney in a halting but heartfelt speech Thursday.
The entertainer didn't perform his signature hits, but he did paint in stark terms voters' choice this November.
"This is the most important election in the history of the United States," he told an audience in Defiance, Ohio. "Because there has storm clouds come over the United States!"
"There is thunderstorms over Europe," he continued, warming to the weather theme. "There are hailstorms, and I mean major hailstorms, in the Middle East."
Meat Loaf also offered a dubious defense of Romney's running mate's controversial budget plan.
"I want you to know at 65 that Paul Ryan has not pushed me off the cliff in a wheelchair," he joked.
The next evening, "Everybody Loves Raymond" actress Patricia Heaton cracked some edgy jokes of her own at another football field rally in North Canton.
Telling the audience she came from an Irish-Catholic family, Heaton invoked Romney's Mormon religion – something he does not frequently mention on the campaign trail.
"I have over a hundred first cousins on my mom's side, so we're giving those Mormons a run for their money," Heaton said.
After joking about nearby Akron ("I was born on the west side of Cleveland. You know what Cleveland's motto is? At least we're not Akron!"), Heaton couldn't resist poking fun at the well-toned body of Romney's clean-cut running mate Paul Ryan.
"I have to tell you, backstage I didn't recognize him with his shirt on," she said, adding: "And I did wear orange, not only because I'm a [Cleveland] Browns fan, but I was afraid Paul would have his shotgun."
On Friday, as has become common over the previous weeks, Romney supporters were also entertained by a folksy band who voiced their support for the candidate in between twanging riffs. The parade of country singers who have backed Romney are perhaps an unusual fit for the former governor of Massachusetts, whose running mate has joked is an aficionado of elevator music.
None of these high-profile fans could equal the pithiness of Romney endorser and football great John Elway, who announced in October he was backing Romney with perhaps the briefest speech on record.
His entire statement, including a reference to a winning football game a day earlier, is below:
"I must say today has been a very good day," Elway told an audience in Denver Oct. 1. "Not only because of what happened yesterday, but because I get the opportunity to introduce to you the next president of the United States, Gov. Mitt Romney."

Um, no one likes meatloaf, he's a never has been.
May be Meat Loaf was angry at the president because he wisecracked about him on the White House Correspondence Dinner this year (Trump joke). Would it be the reason? I wonder he was really screaming out of tune yesterday he seems very mad.
While I have liked some of meatloafs music, this was disgusting!
Why, why and why? The republican party is a joke and getting worst by the minute. They cling to lies, bigotry, fear, hate, loom, doom and gloom. Misrepresent God as they self righteously promote hypocrisy as they all suffer for the good of one . . . The 1%. Period.
For four years, we've seen the GOP hinder the plight of the economy and American people, just because they wanted Obama to FAIL no matter what. Now, they're saying that the recovery isn't moving fast enough. It's a miracle that we've gotten this far along in the recovery, considering all the attacks on him.
Look, it doesn't matter how amazing and sterling Mr.Obama's performance record has been and even how well the economy is doing. Folks will always look for reasons to vote him out of office, because people are crawling out of their skin knowing he's our President and will not openly admit to racism.
STAND UP FOR OBAMA! Stand up for all of us who face a glass ceiling in equality (LGBT, women, and people of color).
I just don't get it these people who support Obama are naive apparently. they just couldn't get it the economy is in need of serious recovery. Obana hasn't done nothing in his last 4 years but bankrupting America. He needs to go man! I can't wait to flush him out in the toilet immediately!
I love meat loaf all of his musics, regardless!
Absolutely disgusting - Meatloaf and Romney both.
Humm, Golsh aw mighty. Somebody that speaks sense. Do we have a 16 plus Trillion dollar federal debt, do we have 8 to 16 percent unemployment, do we have 49 million on food stamps, do we have millions of morgages under water? Maybe we have just been on a visit to Fanasty Island and it is all ficton. After 75 years of Liberal Polotiics you would think everything would be fixed wouldn't you? So why we in this huge mess????
The only thing wrong with Meatloaf is .....he likes Romney! Remember he's worth millions.
Meatloafs overcooked! Wasted!
When Obama took over, our GDP was around negative 9. Now the right wingnuts are complaining that it is a positive 2. If America mattered to the GOP, they would have voted for jobs bills and not anti abortion bills.
Have you seen the video? when meat Loaf was singing Mitt was very uncomfortable (he seems very out of his comfort zone) I don't think Mitt like meat loaf that much he looked very uneasy about his performance but in politics you have to kiss everybody
Mitt is as fresh as last years Meatloaf, seems like a good match.
Meatloaf, Kid Rock, Clint Eastwood, Lynyrd Skynyrd.... I can totally understand the frustration and disappointment with President Obama. But to throw your support behind the evil , greedy Republicans??? Really???
mr. Obama has save the United States from sinking into the abyss. Jobs have been created each month for over THREE YEARS. That is a DRAMATIC improvement from what he was handed.
With the end of the reckless spending on wars in Iraq & Afghanistan, our budget deficit will close further. Obama has made that happen.
With the final expiration of the Bush tax cuts and the closing of tax loopholes [corporate jet subsidizes, BigOil giveaways, etc.], there will be MORE REVENUE which closes the deficit further.
Finally, sesquestration will significantly choke off defense spending forcing some leaness and efficiency in DOD spending.
All these are fundamentally good for moving the National debt and deficit in the RIGHT DIRECTION and Romney opposes [ed] EVERY ONE OF THEM.
Meatloaf, really ?? Is that the best Romney has??
After being a zealous Meatloaf fan for the past 20 years, I hope the shredder enjoys his cds. I have no problem with Mitt or if Meatloaf wishes to vote for him, I would just expect someone who I have admired and grew up with for the past 20 years not to make a spectacle out of himself and tick off at least 1/2 of his supporters. I'm trying to picture Mitt listening to "i'm going to love her for the both of us..." Poor Mitt, I can shred his collection as well :P
Meat Loaf is as irrelevant as Ted Nugent. Both had a song or two out decades ago.
I guess that would make Romney Dr. Frank N. Furter
I guess that makes Romney Dr. Frank N. Furter.
and why would you want to vote for someone who wants to take away women's rights, maria?????
We have been bombarded since the first debate with paid fluff pieces for Romney. Even from traditionally liberal sources. Never underestimate the power of Money.
