Ryan's blue-collar appeal in Ohio

Zanesville, Ohio (CNN) – Paul Ryan made a direct appeal to blue collar voters in struggling manufacturing towns of Ohio where he kicked off his eight-stop tour across the battleground state on Saturday.

With the presidential election in just 10 days, the Republican vice presidential nominee bolstered the credentials of GOP nominee Mitt Romney as a job creator and himself as someone who understands what people struggling for work in an uneven economy are going through.

"This is a person who knows what it takes to actually create jobs, who knows what businesses experience, when they want to hire people, when they want to grow, when they want to expand. That's the kind of experience we need," Ryan said of Romney at a rally in New Philadelphia.

At the same rally, held on the factory floor of Gradall Industries, he said Romney, "helped start a steel plant in Indiana ... that is still providing jobs," which would have occurred when he led Boston private equity firm Bain Capital.

Ryan warned Ohioans of misleading Democratic attacks against Romney. He said, "Hundreds of millions of dollars of negative ads have been spent in Ohio and around the other parts of the Midwest to try and disqualify this man."

At his second rally on a chilly rain-soaked day in Zanesville, the seven-term congressman talked about the economic struggles in his hometown of Janesville, Wisconsin, after General Motors closed a plant there in 2009.

"Now Janesville is not all that different from Zanesville, not just in the j and the z but in the kind of towns we are," said Ryan. "In my hometown, we lost a big factory and there were a few factories that fed that factory … and we used to say: As GM goes so goes Janesville," he said.

Ryan told Ohioans that those jobs are "gone right now" and the economy is not strong enough to replace them.

This weekend, Ryan will make eight stops in Ohio where 18 electoral votes are at stake and a new CNN poll shows President Barack Obama holding a narrow lead within the survey's margin of error.

"Ten days to go. The debate is occurring and on November 6th you make the choice," Ryan said. "And as you know, just like they used to say it – as GM goes so goes Janesville? As Ohio goes, so goes America. I think you know that."

I cannot believe that anyone in Ohio would consider voting for Mitt Romney after Mitt wrote off GM in Ohio. President Obama is the best thing that has happened to Ohio manufacturing and, regardless of what Romney or Ryan tell them, I hope they remember who helped them and who didn't.

The folks in Ohio need to remember – Lyin' Ryan really is a pathological liar. The fact checkers prove it every time he gives a speech. The budget plan Ryan created hammers the working class and the lies he's telling now are directly opposite of everything he's said and done previously. That homespun, outsider act he puts on is a pile of crap. He's a career politician and everything he supports favors the rich. Just like his lie about his marathon time – he's lying every time he opens his mouth! That's why he's called "Lyin' Ryan".

The blue-collar folks need to remember it was the republican ideology that tanked our economy, and that the republicans kept the economy as bad as they could to discredit Obama and win back the presidency. does that kind of treasonous behavior need to be rewarded??? if they can get away with this despicable tactic, there is no telling what else they're willing to do to us. no true patriot can vote republican.

The con-job is working. Romney is now calling for co-operation across the aisle after his party for four years promoted and exercised obstruction and the word "NO", and now he asks for co-operation. What a scumbag, two-faced lying s.o.b., and you want him leading the country while his rich buddies rape the last of your hard-earned dollars. Beware America, the wolf is at your door and he's going to blow your (99%) homes down. Enjoy continued slavery but look at the bright side all you white blue collar folks, you'll learn how the blacks, the latinos, and the other minorities actually have lived in a free democracy. You got taken by Bush, shame on Bush. But this time, shame on you.

  5. What's a "Modern Republican"?

    Who are today's Republicans?

Ann Coulter who mocks the President and calls disabled people "retards"
Todd Akin who said that in a "legitimate rape" women can "shut that thing down"
Richard Mourdock who said "God intended for a rape to happen".
Mitt Romney who said "I like to fire people" and "47% of Americans aren't paying taxes and aren't worth worrying about.
Paul "Lyin' Ryan who claimed to have run a sub-three hour marathon – a blatant lie.
John Sununu who said Colin Powell only supports the President because he's black.
Donalt Trump who is still trying to spread "birther" lies.
Ted "Crappy Pants" who threatened the President but admitted to have purposefully crapped his pants to avoid the draft.
Rick Perry who said "Duh... Oops".

    See a pattern?

Such a gloom and doom guy - why does he have to lie and scare people so much?

Why not tell them that other high-tech jobs will take their place, and with Obama/Biden there will be training available to get those high-paying jobs of the future?

This guy hasn't got a clue of what it feels like to be down and out, and probably never, living on the backs of American workers, he has never held a blue collar job! But boy he can tell you how it feels to struggle, my first and last question to him would be in which job he struggled and there would be no answer, because he's never had one. Since he left university he's been with the republican party and nothing else, he probably wouldn't know a different point of view if it bit him in the butt. Although he has managed to fool a state for the last twelve years.

Mr. Ryan does not know what people who are struggling go through. He has been in Washington earning a good salary from the day he finished college.

Politicians like to tell us they understand our suffering. Sure they do.

...nominee Mitt Romney as a job creator ...
Oh. Really. And just what kind of jobs did he 'create'. Were they good paying blue collar factory jobs? If not, he's wasting his breathe on that crowd.

And of the 12 million jobs Mittsy says he will 'create', what percentage will be minimum wage with no benefits? Most of them!

I looked at the places that Romney and Ryan campaigned today and with the exception of one, they were all Republican leaning areas. Romney's doing a good job at making his presidential run look good but that will all end on November 6th when his campaign ends like most of his previous campaigns, conceding to his opponent.

The only thing Ryan ever did in Ohio was attend college, after that he never looked back other than to agree with Romney on letting the auto industry go bankrupt which meant Ohio auto parts manufacturers could eat dirt too. Go home Ryan, this native Ohioian don't support your kind, go back to Washington and continue to try to "stick it" to Americans with your Ryan Lying Budget Plan.

Interesting that Romney was caught lying to Toledo yesterday. Romney claimed Chrysler announced they were moving all US jobs to China. Turns out he misread a Bloomberg article.
Chrysler announced they are selling Made In America Jeeps to China and announced they are adding jobs in Michigan and Toeldo Ohio. It is making major news in Ohio. Romney is being called out for lying by Republicans in Ohio.
