Michelle Obama: President is making hurricane 'his priority'

Iowa City, Iowa (CNN) - Her husband may be taking a hiatus from the campaign trail, but first lady Michelle Obama isn't.

She told an audience of supporters in Iowa on Monday that President Obama is putting his political schedule on hold to make Hurricane Sandy "his priority."

"Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by Hurricane Sandy," she said at a rally in Iowa City that drew about 800 people. "And Barack has assured state and local authorities that he is going to cut through the red tape and be there to assist with whatever resources and support we need over the next few days."

She added, "He has made this storm his priority, and he is going to do whatever it takes to make sure the American people are safe and secure."

The first lady has another Iowa campaign stop later Monday in Sioux City.

Mitt Romney's wife Ann is also on the campaign trail today, making an appearance in Michigan.

President Obama isa tested and trusted leader he make decision based on the people interest considering all Americans, not only for the "Real Americans" or the 47% but for all.

So a hurricane is important enough to make his priority list but 4 Americans, including our ambassador, being attacked and murdered wasn't important enough for him to cancel his campaign events???

I guess it is because he and the LSM can't bury, ignore and pretend the largest hurricane in history didn't happen, like they did with Benghazi.

What, Obama will focus on a national emergency instead of campaign? Since when? This is the guy who campaigns over dealing with Libya (think trip to Vegas the next day) and hob knobs with celebrities instead of meeting the leader of our closest ally (think Netanyahu blow-off to make time for Letterman).

The fat lady is singing for Obama – one statistic that shows it all – ad spending. Obama $280 Million – Romney $130 Million. Why in the world would a sitting president have to outspend his rival by double? Answer, because he hasn't done a thing for this country and has no record to run on. Throw in all the taxpayer money wasted on his campaign to transport him on Air Force One, etc, and the Obama capaign is a disgrace.

Way to go Michelle, you have just made a headling story. Your husband.. The President (for now) is doing his job. Good for him. I find it interesting though that the Chicago Newspaper just announced its endorsement for Romney... Isn't that Obama & Michelle's home town?

If by "making the hurricane his priority" she means shamelessly seeking to exploit a disaster for political gain, then I would have to agree.

The president is doing the job he was elected to do....and he has done it well!!! The adversary has not been from outside,it has not been natural disasters or oil spills,or lack of regulation or to much regulation. All of those things come with his job. No the adversary has been his brothers in congress who have not worked to resolve our countries challenges in a way ne er seen before.....Why?

let's face it.... it is free positive tv coverage for obama. only reason he is paying attention to this. when people weren't watching and peoples lives hubg iun the balance, he went campaigning. others paid with their lives. what you do when people aren't watching is more important. obama failed the test and people paid with their lives.

@ Borderless What should Obama be doing at this time to make you say anything positive about our president doing his job of reassuring people in harm's way that they are not alone? That's what I thought!!!

I don't agree with President Obama on everything but I trust him to do the right thing and look out for all of us. I've seen how hard he's worked and how much he cares about the entire country, not just 1% of it. Unlike Romney he doesn't sneer at 47% of it either.

Get a life people and stop the hate. The most populated area of our country is in danger due to the hurricane. Start thinking how you can help those that will need our help.

again, those of you who want to discuss libya...why don't you first try & defend the republicans months of lying about WMD and creating a war in Iraq that wounded and killed thousands of pple....and while your at it, why don't you try and defend the intelligence information the bush administration had for months if not years prior to 9/11 and that if he had did his job, 9/11 may have been prevented. once you can explain all of that in a logical way that actually makes sense, then you can open your mouth about libya.......cuz all of you who are demonizing the president are disgusting considering what the previous administration put your country through...and you want to vote the same in? someone who already hinted a war with iran? someone who dogded the draft with 5 sons who followed suit? really? oh the nerve of some pple....so quick to judge without thinking

Is she for real??? What happened to his priorities while our four brave Americans were brutally murdered in Benhazi on 9/11? Why wasn't he on high alert on that dreadful anniversary? He could have prevented those atrocities. This is outrageious.

Like Benghazi was his priority ? Or his laser like focus on the economy ? Give me a break. He can't even focus when he putts, hence all of his time on the golf course.

Is she for real??? Where were his priorities on the dreadful anniversary of 9/11 when our four brave Americans were brutally murdered – and it went on for hours! He could have prevented those atrocities. This is outrageous.

Speaking of shamelessly exploiting a natural disaster for political gain, Romney is the one handing out cheap bottled water and canned Spam out of the back of his campaign bus to look good.

This just goes to show that God is sitll in control. Man can make all kinds of plans but God can just wiped it out in a minute. People we do not have the World in our hands. All the lies and hate that we all spilled out on these blogs is very sickening. Romney had milllions of dollars in Advertisement that he was planning to start this week to buy the Presidency
but because of the Storm he has to tread carefuly. Mind you ,most of these ADS as you guys know are LIES. Take heed people there is a GOD after all..
