Michelle Obama: President is making hurricane 'his priority'

Iowa City, Iowa (CNN) - Her husband may be taking a hiatus from the campaign trail, but first lady Michelle Obama isn't.

She told an audience of supporters in Iowa on Monday that President Obama is putting his political schedule on hold to make Hurricane Sandy "his priority."

"Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by Hurricane Sandy," she said at a rally in Iowa City that drew about 800 people. "And Barack has assured state and local authorities that he is going to cut through the red tape and be there to assist with whatever resources and support we need over the next few days."

She added, "He has made this storm his priority, and he is going to do whatever it takes to make sure the American people are safe and secure."

The first lady has another Iowa campaign stop later Monday in Sioux City.

Mitt Romney's wife Ann is also on the campaign trail today, making an appearance in Michigan.

You have got to be kidding me, God forbid he made Benghazi a priority!

So he stops campaigning to go to the White House to Monitor a storm....

But goes to Vegas when Americans have died over seas and embassies are still on fire. Yea, this has nothing to do with votes and image. Yes, he should monitor the storm but shouldn't he have done both.

    What a disgrace!

Yeah right, Obama said the same thing about Hurricane Isaac hitting New Orleans and then he showed up 6 days later and he campaigned while the hurricane was hitting New Orleans. Please, this is just Michelle trying to make her husband sound good, my opinion.

  3. Democrat now Ind.

So now Obama's already blaming Hurricane Sandy for the delay in the job numbers.

This falls into the Blame the video catagory.

Well, it is about time that he is actually doing some of the work that he was elected to do. It seems like he has been on a campaign vacation for nearly 1 year now. That is why our economy is so bad because he has not spent any time trying to make it right. Romney/Ryan in 2012!!!!!!!

@ nina No one is hinting a war with Iran. Iran's leader is a madman and his country is on the verge of obtaining nuclear weapons. And the horrific acts of the first 9/11 were in the works during the Clinton admin., but we all know what he was doing in the oval office instead of his job. Bush's presidency had just begun when we were hit – and he kept our country safe for eight years after that. Romney will be a strong leader with his priorities in place at all crucial moments – unlike the current administration.

I live on the Gulf Coast and can tell you how many times in the last 4 years when storms threatened out area that Obama made the Hurricanes coming into our neck of the woods a priority . . . ZERO! Funny how THIS storm is now a priority for him with election day so close. Shows where his heart is, not with the people on the gulf, but more importanly his political future. He's only getting in front of cameras now in the hopes of getting more votes, well he won't be getting Michelle so save your breath!

Clinton was disbarred by the State of Arkansas.

He also paid a $25,000.00 fine there. This was all over the Lewinski incident.

He also paid an $850,000.00 settlement over the Paula Jones incident.

He was also disbarred from practicing law in front of the Supreme Court.

So Bill Clinton, a disbarred lawyer, a President who was impeached for lying under oath, asks the American people to believe him when he says the best thing for the country is 4 more years of 0bama.

  9. To all these negative posts...

These negative posters will never place the needs of the US first. President Obama is doing his job, exceptionally well I might add, and the negative posters have nothing substantive to say

I wondered how long the Fox News bigots would take to make critical comments about the President's support for the storm. You mindless drones for the ultra-right-wing simply repeat the sound bites you hear on hate media. Libya was a crisis like many, many others faced by every President. You have neither the need nor the right to know exactly what details our intelligence community was able to extract – that's why we have classified data. If every hater from the right-wing had access to operational information we'd be running a country like Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld – where they manufactured intelligence data and got 4,500 Service Members killed and another 100,000 wounded. The President is an African American man – get over it. You're promoting Romney – a pathological liar who made his fortune the old fashioned way – he used his daddy's money and friends! Romney has no plan! Do you know any of the details? If so, you are the only one because all Romney offers is hollow promises. The Math doesn't work!

Just a reminder that when the twit was tea bagging for that crowd he said that FEMA should be moved to the states then to private business. Can you imagine a natural disaster such as hurricane sandy in the hands of bain and the twit?
There would be no resources to help and deliver resources to those impacted by sandy or even a tornado. Rethugs really don't care about the country!! Big tooth cantor felt the same until August 23, 2011 when his VA district was hit by an earthquake.

Do you expect the President of the United States to devote his individual effort to the operational activities of every one of the hundreds of embassies, consulates, and diplomatic missions in the world? Really? You're simply behaving like a Fox News drone – repeating the sound bites to distract from reality. The reality that Romney is losing. He is a serial flip-flopper with no actual values of his own. Fact checkers show him to be a pathological liar. He was a spoiled rich boy, a draft dodger who now talks tough – yet his kids will never serve. He was a vulture capitalist who forced good working people to the streets with no pension. His money is kept offshore. He invests in companies that specialize in outsourcing American jobs. He says we "don't need more teachers. Fifty in a class could be good." Need more?

A priority? Give me a break. He think we are stupid! What about Benghazi? Where was he when this happened, did he make it a priority? Of course not; he was more interested in his campaign than the lives of 4 americans that didn't have to die. When he is asked what happened, he never gives a straight answer. He doesn't care at all. We need a president that cares and has the best interest for the good of this country.

What a joke this is the first time Obama has made anything a priority with anything except, failed polices, failed Obamacare, failed debates, failed cutting or debt in half by three years, and so many more I can't name.

This is just another photo op in a close election anyone who votes for this clown is just plain stupid or doing so because of race and government hand outs.

Look hat his record it stinks period if this person was white our a republican they would have no chance in hell of winning. The liberal press reminds me of when Kennedy was in office they covered up all of his affairs and now they are covering up all of Obama's failed policies, out of control spending, and no leadership skills.

  18. Small Government?

Those Republicans in the path of the storm need to remember – small government is what you want. When you're on your roof because you ignored the warning given by the National Weather Service, the water is rising, and the temperature is dropping, don't be a liberal! Give the guys in the National Guard or Coast Guard Helicopter the finger and hold your ground. If FEMA offers your family a shelter with warm beds, hot food and a safe environment don't let yourself get sucked-in to that socialist lifestyle. When the CDC offers immunizations, sprays for mosquitoes and keeps tabs on the disease threat don't fall for it! A little dysentery or West Nile Fever makes patriots stronger!

After delivering his remarks in the Rose Garden at 10:35am on September 12, 2012, in which President Obama described the Benghazi attack as an act of terror, yes, he went to Las Vegas. Him staying in Washington would not have changed the course of events that had already occurred. Him being in Washington right now DOES have an impact on getting federal, state and local emergency organizations in synch and ready to go to help folks when Sandy hits.

-------------------------------------------------Were you outraged when Bush started the Iraq War with false intelligence and no exit strategy? We lost 4,500 dead and 100,000 wounded – plus it fueled the recession. Do you expect the POTUS to monitor every diplomatic location on earth? Do you believe intelligence analysis is instantaneous? Are you completely ignorant of military operational procedures – like Mitt Romney?

Romney's critical comments WHILE THE OPERATION WAS UNFOLDING show how poorly suited he is to serve as Commander-In-Chief. His pie-hole diarrhea was a low-class act that puts the ultimate mission at risk. Your Libya comments are a cheap and trashy effort by the right-wingers to distract from Mitt's failing campaign. It's like a "swift boat" situation with even less validity and a more ignorant group of people spreading the nonsense.

  21. ThinkAgain: All of the GOP's policies are PROVEN FAILURES

@Ed1: 31 straight months of private sector job growth; the Dow nearly doubled; unemployment at 7.8%; out of Iraq and getting out of Afghanistan; bin Laden dead; top al Qaeda leadership dead; GM the top auto maker in the world; meaningful healthcare reform that has slowed the rate of premium increases, doesn't let insurance companies drop you when you get sick, lets you keep your kids on your policy until they are 26.

The list goes on and on. Your candidate, on the other hand, changes his opinion more often than folks change their socks on issues like immigration, abortion, stem cell research, gay rights, etc., etc., etc., and proposes a budget that would add $7 trillion to the deficit. He and presumably you cling to the fairy tale of trickle-down economics, even thought the author of it, David Stockman, and the last 10 years of experience show it to be an ABSOLUTE FAILURE.

Man up, grow a pair and accept that President Obama has done a tremendous amount for our country and we're headed in the right direction. Actions speak louder than words or skin color – and President Obama has proven himself to be a great leader and what our country needs to continue moving FORWARD.

President Obama has promised to bring the perpetrators of the terrorist attack in Benghazi to justice. Just ask Osama bin Laden whether he thinks President Obama will make good on that statement.
