Romney: Vote early, here's why

Avon Lake, Ohio (CNN) - Mitt Romney made a public foray into behind-the-scenes campaign strategy Monday in Ohio, urging his supporters to help him win the expectations game in the days before the election.

The candidate has been encouraging audiences to vote early, saying that would free them to help others get to the polls on Election Day. But in a short speech to an overflow audience in Avon Lake, Ohio, Romney peeled back the curtain and explained to voters why their early vote could help his effort.

"It sends a very strong message, by the way," he said about voting early. "I mean, I know your vote counts just as much if it's cast on Election Day as if it's cast early. But when it's cast early, all the media follows how much early voting is going on, and they look at your zip code and where you live and make an estimate of whether you're a Republican or a Democrat, and they decide whether we're ahead or we're falling behind."

"And we're doing well right now, so early voting makes a difference," Romney continued. "It helps us, it's you know, a little extra boost when we need it, so thank you for doing it."

One element that could muddy the waters: in Ohio, voters are identified by the party for which they last cast a primary vote - so any voter who weighed in on the contested Republican primary earlier this year would now be identified as a Republican.

Romney's campaign has been highlighting increasingly tightening polls in Ohio, which they present as proof the GOP presidential nominee is benefiting from a surge in momentum in the state where Obama has long held an advantage.

Obama officials respond by touting their extensive ground game and traditional advantage in early voting.

In a memo released to reporters Monday, the Romney campaign's Ohio state director sought to cast doubt on the president's effort.

"Every day, Barack Obama's so-called Ohio firewall crumbles a little bit more because of Mitt Romney's electric appearances, our campaign's robust ground game, and Romney's forward-looking message that lays out a serious and specific agenda for the future," said Scott Jennings.

An Obama official said the rival campaign was ignoring facts on the ground in an effort to paint their campaign as on the upswing.

"In Ohio, the latest public poll shows us holding steady with a four-point lead, which reflects the strong support for the President we're seeing in early voting-despite Romney's last-minute efforts to mislead Ohioans," said National Field Director Jeremy Bird.

Spinsters and BS-ers ... they are NOT holding steady in Ohio. Romney is up by 2 points in Ohio today and he WILL carry Ohio on the 6th of November, guaranteed.

"Every day, Barack Obama's so-called Ohio firewall crumbles a little bit more because of Mitt Romney's electric appearances

The only thing electric is all the BS and static that Romney offers and cutting taxes is hardly electric and has been done to death with no job creation coming, just deficits.Thank goodness this electric lie machine is almost done and after six straight years of flopping all over the map or morals and positions it will be great to unplug Mitt once and for all

So let me get this straight, if your zip code is like well "90210" you are likely to vote for Romney and is your zip code is "44101" you are likely to vote for Obama. That is a bunch of crap, here he goes again with the code for the other or "47 percent" not voting for him. Mitt Romney has a rotten soul!

Anyone who votes for Obama is helping kill America one vote at a time. 4 years of failed policies, 4 years of broken promises and 4 years of ineffective Governing and not being able to cross the aisle with a bipartisian effort. Obama you promised the deficit would be cut in half by your 3rd year in office or this would be a one term run. Keep your promise and drop out of the race. That is the most important promise you could ever keep

He is a sales man (technocrat) he think technically not as a potential leader who want to be the president of the greatest nation on earth. This is the true nature of Romney the people vote is a currency to him that he can use to buy the presidency. In his mind people vote because of the mere effect on media perception not based on their objective reality. Here is a news for Mitt people vote because election affect their life.

Vote Romney & Ryan to get Liberty, and American Prosperity back! Thanks, Ohio! Romney knows what he's doing. If Obama would have followed Romney's advice in the beginning,, regarding the bankruptcy issues, it would have saved the tax payers billions of dollars. Obama eventually did go through with the managed bankruptcy, it was just very late and very costly. Romney is an economic genius with a big heart. Don't listen to the Obamedia lies! He is the real deal!!!!

phil, you sound angry. i don't know how you compare 8 yrs of bush failed policy to the president who only had 3 yrs to clean up his mess. you want the prez to clean up a humongos mess in less than four years that stupid bush did? and don't talk about bipartisian when ugly mcconnell said their number one goal was to defeat the prez and to make him a one time president.

  21. plain&simple

I see an America that is respected on the world stage because our word means something again.....I can hold my head high knowing we stand on principal again, not on who has the most oil. We import less oil now because Obama has worked without help from republicans to establish a foundation for energy independence. Obama is the no BS president. How can a nation follow a leader who doesn't know what he stands for until he takes a poll from his big money contributers? That's not putting country first!!! Romney has campaigned on confusion and that is not a leadership tactic!!!
