Romney: Vote early, here's why

Avon Lake, Ohio (CNN) - Mitt Romney made a public foray into behind-the-scenes campaign strategy Monday in Ohio, urging his supporters to help him win the expectations game in the days before the election.

The candidate has been encouraging audiences to vote early, saying that would free them to help others get to the polls on Election Day. But in a short speech to an overflow audience in Avon Lake, Ohio, Romney peeled back the curtain and explained to voters why their early vote could help his effort.

"It sends a very strong message, by the way," he said about voting early. "I mean, I know your vote counts just as much if it's cast on Election Day as if it's cast early. But when it's cast early, all the media follows how much early voting is going on, and they look at your zip code and where you live and make an estimate of whether you're a Republican or a Democrat, and they decide whether we're ahead or we're falling behind."

"And we're doing well right now, so early voting makes a difference," Romney continued. "It helps us, it's you know, a little extra boost when we need it, so thank you for doing it."

One element that could muddy the waters: in Ohio, voters are identified by the party for which they last cast a primary vote - so any voter who weighed in on the contested Republican primary earlier this year would now be identified as a Republican.

Romney's campaign has been highlighting increasingly tightening polls in Ohio, which they present as proof the GOP presidential nominee is benefiting from a surge in momentum in the state where Obama has long held an advantage.

Obama officials respond by touting their extensive ground game and traditional advantage in early voting.

In a memo released to reporters Monday, the Romney campaign's Ohio state director sought to cast doubt on the president's effort.

"Every day, Barack Obama's so-called Ohio firewall crumbles a little bit more because of Mitt Romney's electric appearances, our campaign's robust ground game, and Romney's forward-looking message that lays out a serious and specific agenda for the future," said Scott Jennings.

An Obama official said the rival campaign was ignoring facts on the ground in an effort to paint their campaign as on the upswing.

"In Ohio, the latest public poll shows us holding steady with a four-point lead, which reflects the strong support for the President we're seeing in early voting-despite Romney's last-minute efforts to mislead Ohioans," said National Field Director Jeremy Bird.

Obama will win. Robme and Ryan is the root cause of the financial collapse. Robme is a wealth creator not a job creator. And Eddie Munster is a obstructionist expert. People like them are the reason this country is screwed. We need Barack. Some of you hate that this man is the leader of th free world. World poll. Robme 9% Obama 91% We don't want Romney the cult leader. I want to go to church with him. I can't I'm not Mormon but I am. a Christian. Sad people very sad. Possibility of a poligimist in the Whitehouse. NOT....

Do not fall for the crap Romney and the Republicans are selling. They will lie, cheat and steal to get into the White House. The Republican idea to make things better is to do the same things that caused the problem. I am sure they would have no problem rehiring a financial advisor whose investment policies almost wiped out most Americans life savings. Basically that is what the Republicans are proposing. They are saying lets fire the guy that stabilized your investments and grow it to almost what it was prior to 2007 and let’s rehire the guy whose policies almost wiped it out. Do they think most Americans are stupid?

Here is the real hoax. The Republican idea to make things better is to do the same things that caused the problem. Here is something to think about. Republicans would have no problem rehiring a financial advisor whose investment policies almost wiped out their life savings. Basically that is what they are proposing. Republicans are telling us to fire the guy that stabilized and grow our investments to almost what it was worth prior to 2007 and rehire the guy whose policies almost wiped it out. We have to be really stupid to listen to them and rehire a guy whose policies wiped out investment in the first place. I would hope that Americans are smarter than that.

Here is a simple way of looking at who is best for the economy. Would you invest with a guy whose investment policies wiped out your investment portfolio or would you invest with a guy whose investment policies stabilized your investment portfolio and is currently growing your portfolio. Even Romney wouldn't invest his own money with the guy whose policies wiped out everyone’s investment and now he wants us to do it. So why would anyone even consider voting for any Republican.

How can any Americans think that Romney/Ryan policies would be better for the Economy. The only way for anyone to think that is if they are suffering from total amnesia. Have people forgotten what happened in 2007/2008 and the years leading up to the Great Recession. It was the exact same policies that Romney is advocating now that caused the Great Recession. Are we that dumb to think that these same policies that caused the Great Recession will somehow magically make the economy better.

I guess Romney/Ryan think we are all stupid and don’t know the truth and can’t remember the dark days of the great recession of 2007 and 2008 and the years leading up to it.

The choice is clear. Do we want to go back to the exact same policies (Romney/Ryan current policies) that brought America (this great Nation) to its knees or do we want to continue to build on the recovery.

Do not fall for the crap Romney and the Republicans are selling. They will lie, cheat and steal to get into the White House. It doesn’t matter how Romney and the Republican try to spin their policies, the American people know how disastrous those policies have been for this country, especially for the Middle Class and less fortunate.
Americans are not stupid. How can anyone even thing Romney’s policies will be better for this country. Romney and the Republicans policies from 2001 to 2008 brought this great nation to its knees, their policies caused the Great Recession, their policies wiped out almost 10,000,000 jobs as a direct result of the Great Recession, their policies wiped out retirement savings for tens of millions of Americans as a direct result to the Great Recession, their policies took a $1 trillion surplus to a $13 trillion deficit, their policies resulted in the decline in the percentage of Americans that are in the middle class, their policies resulted in tens of millions of Americans without healthcare, their policies resulted in millions of Americans losing their homes, their policies will be detrimental to Latinos and all other minorities, their policies will result in another war in the Middle East, and the list goes on.

No Americans in their right mind will believe that Romney/Ryan policies will be better for the Economy. The only way for anyone to think that is if they are suffering from total amnesia. People will remember what happened in 2007/2008 and the years leading up to the Great Recession. It was the exact same policies that Romney is advocating now that caused the Great Recession. We are not that dumb to think that these same policies that caused the Great Recession will somehow magically make the economy better.

"Mitt Romney's electric appearances" Seriously? I thought he ran on batteries. All sarcasm aside the man has been running for years and no one knows what he really stands for. We do know he will lie and say anything to get what he wants and that he has a very low opinion of most Americans.

Suni- it is my experience that the opposite of what you say is evident. If the American President were elected globally – Romney, and/or any Republican candidate for that matter, would be soundly embarrassed.

I heard that Mitt helped close down all the US Delphi plants except one still in Michigan and moved all those jobs to China in 2008. He made 150 million which he put into an offshore account. When this story breaks, he is gonna wish all his supporters vote before they change their mind. That is why he wanted to let the auto industry go under, and he won't show his taxes. How can you look at this man and believe anything he says?

Calling Obama Black will be racist remark but to call Romney a Mormon is not religious insult? How dare you be so ignorant! If religion was a factor in choosing Presidents Barak cannot be President at all since he is neither a good Christian nor a good Muslim by birth, Who the heck is he???? Obama will loose this Election 100%. Enough of his BS. Romney/Ryan – 2012

Romney is doing great in OH. I see so many bumper stickers and billboards, and attended a packed rally. The media isn't reporting everything in detail. Neighbors who supported Obama in 2008 also are moving over to Romney, not so much for his position on everything, but mainly because they see he has a vision for our future, and Obama doesn't appear to offer much of any hope. We midwesterners think actions speak louder than words, and Romney has proven to be a capable governor and businessman, such that we can't do any worse than now.

Romney's so called business experience: He ran a business putting people out of business, to build his business on. How impressive.
The fact of the matter is, America is not a business. No one should even try to run it as one.
America is a country. My country and I don't want that sleazy used car salesman offering it up to whoever has the most money.

They look at your zip code- good grief Romney in my neighborhood we have both political parties. Even though CNN and other media gave you NC and some polls had you up by 4-6 points it was flawed. Early voting in NC reveals President Obama 55% Romney 37%, latest poll for NC is tied.
