Back on stump, Romney aims for right tone

Miami, Fla. (CNN) – Mitt Romney resumed his normal campaign schedule but aimed to strike a "positive tone" Wednesday as people continued to recover from the aftereffects of Sandy, a senior adviser said.

But in a sign that softer tone only extended to a certain point, adviser Kevin Madden would not answer CNN National Political Correspondent Jim Acosta's question about the president's handling of the weather disaster that has upended both candidates' schedules in the final days of the race.

"I believe the response is still going on, so I'm not in a position to qualify the response by the federal government," Madden said after a question about whether Obama was effectively responding to Sandy.

In Tampa, at his first campaign event since the crisis, Romney did not mention President Obama or repeat any of his harshest criticisms of his opponent in a speech where he repeatedly encouraged his supporters to donate to relief efforts for storm victims.

"We come together in times like this and we want to make sure that they have a speedy and quick recovery from their financial and, in many cases, personal loss," Romney said. "Now, people coming together is what's also going to happen, I believe, on Nov. 7."

But hours later, at his second event in Coral Gables, the local politicians who spoke before Romney did not hold back.

After the four killings in Libya, Obama was "nowhere to be found" to answer questions about what happened, thundered Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart, who also accused Obama of apologizing for America abroad.

"Remember, and he went to Egypt to apologize, to tell the world that the United States was going to be humbler and mellower and that frankly, we are so sorry for the sacrifices of the Americans for generations," the congressman said.

Carlos Lopez-Cantera, a state representative, offered parents some Halloween advice for convincing their neighbors to support Romney.

"If you run into one of those Obama supporters on your block, go up to them and tell them you are going to redistribute the candy of their children. And see if they still support that policy then!" he joked.

And former Gov. Jeb Bush drew audible chuckles with his smiling jab at the president: "His entire strategy is to blame others, starting with my brother [George W. Bush] of course," he said, to laughter.

Distortions of reality are the only thing that the Republicans can use to make their case. When they do tell the truth, a rarity, it works against them.

And that is the main point..he wants to aim right tone, not suggest what is the right thing to do. He would do exactly what W did during Katrina. Leave poor and middle class to suffer and support his billionaire friends with tax breaks, exporting jobs to China and make money anyway including war with Iran or whoever he can to support his war mongering super PACS.

NOT voting for Obama!!!! Tired of all my hard earned tax dollars being distributed to those who won't get up and go to work and take care of their families!! Sick of this welfare system. I believe in helping those that help themselves, but so many aren't even trying!! Before long, we will have more people standing with their hands out than we will have working to give it to them!!!

Right tone?? Why not just finally say what you think instead of constantly saying things based on what you think people want to hear? Who are you?

CNN, Where the back story (the truth) about Romney's campaign event disguised as a fund raiser for Hurricane Sandy relief? According to another network, the campaign purchased $5 in groceries the night before the event. The campaign changed the theme of the event the day of; requiring donations for admittance; then offered those groceries to the people awaiting entrance to the event. The result was a staged photo op, where Romney, thanked these same people for their donations. This is yet another form of deception, where is the coverage?

Wonder how much robme donnated to help the people of sandy's devastation??!! Oh, I forgot. His "charitable donations" go to the Mormon church to care for their own. And Jeb. Your state seems to always be 'out there' on many things to include corruption. Must run in the family. Robme, when you find out what you really stand for let us know, okay?

Mitt's reference to Nov. 7th meant he hopes we all pull together as Americans after the election. With all the rabid "haters" out there this is highly unlikely. What a shame for America!

Mitt Romney scores HIGH on the "sociopath" scale. He REPEATEDLY Lies. He has NO empathy. He's "wooden". His persona is reflective of the crowd he's talking to. He appears to have "delusions of grandeur" when it comes to taking on and "defeating America's enemies". Like Adolf Hitler (another "sociopath"), this guy could get us all into REAL "problems".

The combination of both Romney and Ryen is like Katrina and Sandy together rolled into one, but alot scarier then the real hurricanes.

Honestly, if Romney had ANY core values, he might be a decent candidate.
But the fact that he's a chronic flip flopper on EVERY issue....from abortion to Romneycare to gun control, etc... tells me that he has no principles whatsoever...none....
I expect more from a president.
I didn't agree with anything that Ronald Reagan believed in. But at least Reagan had beliefs and principles and a vision for America.
Romney, on the other hand, is a 2 bit, slimy used car salesman who will pander to any interest group and say anything to get elected.
What a sad sad state the Republican party is in if this is the best they can offer.
No Mr Romney...you will NOT be getting my vote.

So Romney handed out some canned goods he bought to supporters, gave some platitudes, claimed he was making a donation to the Red Cross then collected the same canned goods- stuck them in a truck that went ??? and went right back to lying way to the presidency. Why isn't this shameful farce front and center in the news? Why does this clown lie constantly? He gets away with it! Is there anyone in the media with any courage?

Romney tries for the right tone, but being utterly inept at aping human emotion, he stages a Potemkin Village of a so-called relief effort, gathering things for the Red Cross that the Red Cross specifically says not to send, and now it turns out his aides went and bought those things instead of Romney inspiring any real acts of giving.

I am sorry after watch this election and have worked in politics on both national and local elections. Mr. Romeny the truth is not in you and as a true Christian the the truth is not in you! I hate to say you and I don't like to judge people's faith but when you tell both faith lies, whenever, you violate and judge people lives, GOD will judge yours. I try not to but you have finally brought me to this end! Your lies, cheating, desception, sexism, racism and other isms has brought me like many others before to say enough is enough. You jugde others but remember Jesus' own words in Matthew 7 and remember his judgement will be of the yard stick of your life...this election! Your lies of has been the worst of any American election!

I believe the Nov. 7th comment was to confuse the minority voters into waiting to vote on...Nov. 7th. It goes in stride with the republican mailers that went out in 2008 to minority neighborhoods telling them they were to vote...the day after the election. Watch for even more subtle tactics. This comment of Nov. 7th was no "mistake". Everything...the republicans to is very contrived.

Gov. Christie learned something important – the difference between the President and Gov. Romney! I hope a lot of people learned that too – and vote accordingly!
Romney's number one goal is to take the White House. He is not concerned about the destitute, the needy, or the poor. And, he loves being able to fire people. This is a pattern with him.
This is America's last warning to think hard about what they are getting into before the election, if they are considering Romney as Commander-In-Chief.
