Miami, Fla. (CNN) – Mitt Romney resumed his normal campaign schedule but aimed to strike a "positive tone" Wednesday as people continued to recover from the aftereffects of Sandy, a senior adviser said.
But in a sign that softer tone only extended to a certain point, adviser Kevin Madden would not answer CNN National Political Correspondent Jim Acosta's question about the president's handling of the weather disaster that has upended both candidates' schedules in the final days of the race.

"I believe the response is still going on, so I'm not in a position to qualify the response by the federal government," Madden said after a question about whether Obama was effectively responding to Sandy.
In Tampa, at his first campaign event since the crisis, Romney did not mention President Obama or repeat any of his harshest criticisms of his opponent in a speech where he repeatedly encouraged his supporters to donate to relief efforts for storm victims.
"We come together in times like this and we want to make sure that they have a speedy and quick recovery from their financial and, in many cases, personal loss," Romney said. "Now, people coming together is what's also going to happen, I believe, on Nov. 7."
But hours later, at his second event in Coral Gables, the local politicians who spoke before Romney did not hold back.
After the four killings in Libya, Obama was "nowhere to be found" to answer questions about what happened, thundered Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart, who also accused Obama of apologizing for America abroad.
"Remember, and he went to Egypt to apologize, to tell the world that the United States was going to be humbler and mellower and that frankly, we are so sorry for the sacrifices of the Americans for generations," the congressman said.
Carlos Lopez-Cantera, a state representative, offered parents some Halloween advice for convincing their neighbors to support Romney.
"If you run into one of those Obama supporters on your block, go up to them and tell them you are going to redistribute the candy of their children. And see if they still support that policy then!" he joked.
And former Gov. Jeb Bush drew audible chuckles with his smiling jab at the president: "His entire strategy is to blame others, starting with my brother [George W. Bush] of course," he said, to laughter.
Once, I was told that I had a problem of not listening. As I was listening to people telling me about things, I was already consumed in preparing my answer! Here is Romney´s problem that many of us experience – not listening and wanting to come with quick answers so he appears as if he is in charge or well informed on issues. We have seen it on Detroit with the – let Detroit go bankrupt stance and wanting to spin himself out of it(wanted to appear a business man in charge), we have heard him in the middle of the night giving answers on Libya, we have seen how he plays foreseer on natural calamities and how best to for Americans to leave rescue and recovery to the private sector, how he thinks of Russia with Cold War glasses plus plenty many issues.Romney is now a qualified shooter from the waist and he misses. Romney is not alone! But for Romney, I would recommend reading Freud who said – if you listen and talk less, you would learn a thing or two. The advantage is giving well balanced answers. For now, Romney could easily be called a distortionist
I see lots of romney 47% out everyone who are in need. they are not freeloaders like you said.they are doing a fine job in n.j. and n.y and may god bless all of us.
@Carlos Lopez-Cantera's comment "tell them you are going to redistribute the candy of their children".
Actually Carlos, my son and daughter are fortunate enough to live in a place where they receive more candy that they need. So we sit down and take half of the candy and donate it at their school, where they in turn see that less fortunate kids will receive it. It's called "sharing" and it teaches them not to be glutenous.
It is vulgar for him to campaign while Obama has to take care of those in need. If Romney were wise he would stop now and let the chips fall where they may. He should wait for Obama to get back in the race. This makes Romney look vapid. And it will do more to damage his hopes than all his political gaffes and lies put together.
Why is this guy back on the campaign trail already? Hints that his priority was there and not doing more to help out with the relief efforts on the east coast.
Romney aiming before he shoots....... that a new one!!
Everything should come from from your heart. not from how your advisers think your should sound, or act. If you need to practice on tone, then it will show.
Wow I think both sides need to get a clue. If you look at one news organization you are nothing but sheep for that party. Everyone knows that certain media outlets lean left and another leans right so why not look at both with an open mind and find the truth in the middle. And stop comparing them Obama is not Clinton and Romney is not Bush.
SEALS to Obama: Please send help. We are being slaughtered while you watch.
Obama to SEALS: No can do. Military stand down. I'm off to Vegas for fundraising.
Blue state victims to Obama: Please help us, our houses are all blowed down and broken.
Obama to Sandy victims: Sorry, no can do. I've got to campaign and fundraise. That is much more important.
Voters have figured out that President Obama has no message, no agenda and not even much of an explanation for what he has done over the past four years. His campaign is based entirely on persuading people that Mitt Romney is a uniquely bad man, entirely dedicated to the rich, ignorant of the problems of the average person. As long as he could run his negative ads, the campaign at least kept voters away from the Romney bandwagon. But once we all met Mitt Romney for three 90-minute debates, we got to know him — and to like him. He was not the monster Obama depicted, but a reasonable person for whom we could vote.
Lynda/Minn.......................don't even worry about the HATERS.............they're in so much PAIN they can't think clearly...I think its called Romneisa
