(CNN) – President Barack Obama's campaign touts the endorsement of former Secretary of State Colin Powell, a Republican, in a new radio ad released Wednesday.
The move comes in the final days of the 2012 presidential race, as both campaigns work to appeal to the remaining undecided and independent voters.

Powell endorsed the president last week on CBS' "This Morning," renewing his support for Obama that he first made public in 2008. The one-minute radio ad, "Endorsed," features some of Powell's praise for Obama in last week's interview.
"When he took over...we were in one of the worst recessions we had seen in recent times, close to a depression. The fiscal system was collapsing, Wall Street was in chaos...and we were in very difficult straits," Powell said, repeating many of the talking points heard from Obama's campaign.
In his endorsement, Powell criticized Mitt Romney's foreign policy positions, saying he was "uncomfortable" with what he described as "neo-conservative views" trumpeted by the GOP presidential nominee.
While the radio ad did not include Powell's criticism, it featured his approval of Obama's job in his role as commander-in-chief.
"I also saw the president get us out of one war, start to get us out of a second war," he said. "The actions he's taken with respect to protecting us from terrorism have been very, very solid."
Team Obama said the radio spot will air in Florida, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Virginia, New Hampshire, Ohio, Iowa, Nevada, and Colorado.

I used to have great respect for General Powell even when he voted for Obama in 08, but after the failure that Obama has been and still standing by him NOOOO MAAAASSS he has given away his vote for one reason only-??????
Gen. Powell's endorsement is a thorn in republicans side. But he's only stating the obvious. He's not the only republican endorsing the President. Let's not forget about Charlie Crist. I'll even bet $10,000 that Bill Kristol and George Will vote for the President over the habiltual liar.
General Colin Powell is still serving America. Thank you for your service.
Mittens will counter with his endorsement from Ted 'Crappy Pants' Nugent.
At least Colin Powell has some measure of dignity and respect to him, even though he still registers as a Repuke.
General Powell is a true American. I support him and President Obama

Do tell, little one, WHAT "failures"?
Great General , Great Secretary of State , Great Man , Great Leader .
I will always respect Colin Powell,. He deals with facts , not party line.
GW Bush and the boys left him out in the cold with bad information during the UN meeting prior to the Iraq war.
A Vote for Romney is like a Vote for Donald Rumsfeld and Dick Cheney .
Colin Powell has always been a great leader.
Colin Powell. Soldier, Statesman, World-Class american. Listen to him.
The Republicans keep saying that he's a failure, Ask Osama Bin Laden if the President is a failure, The rest of the world ins in the negative with economic growth, The only thing the President Failed at is being a white man
From one Great Leader to another. What more is there to say?
Colin, I personally than'Q. Yes, on obama12.
republicans jumping camp......nice! How can people forget what the republicans did last time they were in office? We experienced the greatest economic recession since the Great Depression. Now,they want us to let them back in?Why?To see if they can finish the job,and beat out the Great Depression?Nice. Not in my election booth.
It's amazing that Republican leaders fought so hard AGAINST Ryan's plan and Mitt Romney, but now act like these same plans are amazing. Romney's in it for Romney. Ryan's in it for Ryan. I'm not comfortable with the Tea Party and the extreme right in the Republican party and definitely not comfortable with the extreme left movement party of the Democratic Party. We can't afford all these social programs. We also can't afford all the tax deductions. This year, it's which party are you less worried about. The economy will get better no matter which party wins election. It's all the other garbage that I worry about.

And what is that reason ?
If your insinuating race , then your a rascest your self !
Colin Powell is better the you will ever be. Unlike you and your fearless leader who has five sons all whom avoided military service in times of war.
Read why he supports the President ,
Foreign Policy
Strong military
The economy
And leadership.
You suggest he has no intelligence to think past race .
He's not like you , I'm happy to say.
Mitt Romney. Choice of the Koch brothers, Adelson, Limbaugh, Fox, Palin, etc. Not ever respected by the rest of the
civilized world. Wonder why?
we have no way of knowing what to expect if we elect Romney......better the devil we know, than the devil we don't.
The so called "relief rally for Romney" was really a "campaign rally" which he said he would not due with respect to Hurricane Sandy victims, but this just proves not only another "lie" from Romney, but it also proves how he does not care about people. We are registered Republicans voting for Obama...........hope you join us!!!
Powell is only voting his skin color. If he would only look at the things Ovomit has done he wouldn't give him a second thought.Trying to destroy this country is not respectful nor patriotic...
joe-
Obama's failure?! what about Mr. Romney's shocking lack of gravitas on foreign affairs, or the foreign policy disasters of the Bush Administration?

PRESIDENT OBAMA is not a failure. Only GOP enablers would be fooled by the circus called the GOP House. These people have done NOTHING to earn their salaries. You see, refusing to work with the president isn't a game plan – it is not doing your freakin' job. The GOP wanted him to fail and instead of letting him rise or fall on his own, the GOP set out to refuse to cooperate in the hopes that the president would fail. Well, President Obama hasn't failed, the GOP have failed to help get this country moving in the right direction. Shame on you. You disgust me.
Sorensen-
Excellent point! You can tell a lot about a candidate by their endorsements. Romney's are embarrassing!
I like obama and powell. Interesting its a radio ad. I think I know why and its a smart move.
The difference between the character of Mitt Romney and Colin Powell is bigger than the Grand Canyon.......Colin says what he believes...Mitt says what he thinks people want to hear.......
