Poll: Obama leads in Wisconsin

(CNN) – A new poll of likely voters in Wisconsin shows President Barack Obama with an eight point lead over Republican nominee Mitt Romney in the state.

The Marquette University Law School poll indicates 51% of likely Wisconsin voters backing the president while 43% support Romney. Obama's lead falls outside the survey's sampling error of plus or minus 2.8 percentage points.

Previous surveys of Wisconsin voters, however, show a much tighter race between the presidential hopefuls in the Badger State.

An NBC/Wall Street Journal/Marist poll released on October 18 showed Obama with 51% of support among likely voters and 45% of support for Romney. The six point margin falls within the survey's sampling error, meaning the two candidates are statistically tied in the state.

The last Marquette University poll released October 17 indicated Obama with 49% of support among likely voters in the state and Romney with 48%. Obama's one point edge also falls within the survey's sampling error.

Ten percent of likely voters in Wisconsin said they have voted early. Among early voters, 56% have supported the president and 36% backed Romney with 1% voting for third party candidates. The poll showed a similar trend in the U.S. Senate race. Democrat Rep. Tammy Baldwin received 52% support among early voters to Republican and former governor Tommy Thompson's 36% and 1% support for third party candidates.

Wisconsin, with its ten electoral votes, is a battleground state in the race for the White House and has been frequented by the campaigns and their surrogates as the days dwindle down to November 6.

Romney's running mate Rep. Paul Ryan is campaigning in Wisconsin, his home state, on Wednesday and will trick-or-treat with his children in his congressional district in Janesville for Halloween.

The Marquette poll also indicates a heated battle for the Senate. Baldwin has slight advantage over Thompson – 47% to Thompson's 43%. The Democratic candidate's edge falls within the poll's sampling error. Ten percent of likely voters were undecided or had no preference. In the previous Marquette poll, Thompson had 46% support and Baldwin had 45%.

The Marquette poll was conducted by telephone from October 25-28 among 1,243 likely voters in Wisconsin. The survey's sampling error is plus or minus 2.8 percentage points.

I think America is showing it's true colors! We have not gotten over racism! They have hated the POTUS since day one! Romney has lied over and over. Regardless of Romney being proved a liar...people still will vote for him to get the black man out of office. What a shame!

Not sure if CNN has automatic response "The - point margin falls within the survey's sampling error" to every poll because no matter how big Obama is winning like 6 points on NBC/WLJ poll (while the MOE is 3.1%) CNN still says the margin is within the survey's sampling error. News for you CNN 6 > 3.1

in the states that know the Relubican candidates the best, Ryan from Wisconsin, Romney from Mass., Obama will win by significant margins...should that be telling to the rest of the country?

Nothing new. Obama had Wisconsin down a real long time ago and that won't change. Everyone has to realize that Obama WILL win. And I say Obama is taking Florida. Because the polls has no spanish speaking people ONLY being surveyed. With the spanish speakers only that are voting, Obama will take advantage with a few points. Obama has gotten Ohio down and BAM it's OVER... OBAMA can go on TV right before election day and say "I'LL BE BACK"

AzDem – and how many people are voting for the President just because he's black?? It would be nice if people would vote for candidates based on their positions on issues instead of just blindly voting Democrat or Republican.

Of course, it would be nice if we had better choices too.....

In general, people of America, except the bigots, are generous, open-minded, and intelligent. I hope we should still be able to determine who we want him to represent us. Absolutely, the bottom line is we don’t want the POTUS is the one who is a liar that has no shame.

Yea, sure Obama has an 8% lead. We don't buy that at all. Rasmussen polls show a statistical tie.
Obama wouldn't be changing his plans to make a campaign stop there tomorrow if he had such a huge lead.
The Obama campaign is scared like anything!

    LOL!

I guess you still believe in the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy too! Read the headline. Obama is up by 8% in Wisconsin. He is up by 5 in Ohio and still is winning in Michigan. If Mitts can't break any of the 3 states he has no way to get to 270. Mitts can win Florida, can win Virginia and North Carolina, hold on to all of McSenile states that he and Bush in the past 3 Elections, he still doesn't get to even 260.

Keep telling yourself that Mitts will win. Keep quoting from the Little Engine that Could, "I THINK I CAN, I CAN I CAN!" Reality will bit you in the behind on November 6-7 when Mitts is a footnote in history and Obama, I mean PRESIDENT OBAMA is reelected to a 2nd term.

You can smell the fear emanating from the Dems. Despite the dirty tricks and the help of the media....Obama is going to lose on Tuesday. The rejection of Dem policies started with the 2010 elections and ends with the Republicans retaking the White House and maybe even the Senate. The real change can begin in earnest in Januar 2013.

For all those people who don't have their heads up the President's butt, here is what the real poll looks like in WI.

President Obama and Mitt Romney are now tied in the critical battleground state of Wisconsin.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Wisconsin Voters shows the president and his Republican challenger each earning 49% support. One percent (1%) likes another candidate, and two percent (2%) are undecided.

If youa re voting based on policies and not race, than you are in the minority among Romney supporters. Race is a HUGE issue in the is country, and I have heard enough garbage out of the mouths of GOP supporters to know that the president's skin color is an an issue. I sat with my local GOP state senator at a Boy Scout Eagle Court of Awards over the weekend, and it was a non-stop stream of racially charged comments that he was making while we ate until his chielf of staff told him to put a sock in it. I was appalled that he felt that he could talk so freely amongst people he assumed agreed with him. Race is definitely an issue, and its the GOP that keeps bringing it up, then claiming they are victims.

The main stream media's lack of investigating and reporting, in regards to the Benghazi tragedy, where four brave Americans were murdered, is a disgrace. In 2012, after Romney and Ryan replace the empty suit, in the empty chair, America needs to replace the corrupt main stream media, with real journalists.

rla, what you do not mention in reason for voting is what has he promised to do different from Obama. Many of you
go with empty talk from Romney about creating 12 million jobs but economy is not the only the reason
that makes America great. There are so many things, foreign policy, social policy, you name it. And Romney failed
on those. Except you hate the president and willing to vote against your own interest then you are not the
first. There are many. a woman who benefits from Obamacare, a man whose son life save because of
    Obamacare has similar views.

Romney is a Herman Munster wanna-be. He is the most unoriginal fool and his attack dog Ryan or is that cryin' is no better than
Cheney, well, at least Ryan has a heart. Romney prances around in that starched leisure outfit or did he just sit on something so
sharp that he stands stiffer than a guy named Bill....and then takes whatever Obama says and adds "yea, me,too!!!" If this moron & his creep veep win, then the Bush Doctrine of 2000-2008 is in full swing again; did these guys find more prgrams to pilfer???
Sisters-good luck in the reproductive and female health department because we're getting shut down. Anyone get a load of Mike
Huckabee? Good lord, how do people get away with this religi-terror? Jesus is my personal savior-REPUBLICANS!!- I'm yelling at you...THE OPERATIVE WORD IS PERSONAL!!! Get out of my face & out of my doctor's office or else God forbid, some little girl you care about may be so scared of you that she'll die of a perforated uterus in a botched illegal abortion...or maybe some poor elderly relative may die from female related cancer that she was denied access in getting care for. YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW..
YOU MAY JUST WEEP FOR WHAT SISTERS MAY SEW.....Keep it personal yourselves.

Romney supporters should stop being such crybabies and admit you have a weak candidate. You have no one to blame but yourselves. All you wanted was to get President Obama out of The White House because he is black. You are willing to sell your souls and follow a cult leader because of your racism.
