New York adjusts absentee vote deadline after Sandy

(CNN) - New York, one of the states hit hardest by Superstorm Sandy, has extended the deadline for absentee ballots and applications not delivered or requested in person, the State Board of Elections said.

New York City's election preparation efforts have also been hampered by flooding, power outages, and transportation shutdowns. The city's election board said their offices in Manhattan and Staten Island were closed and phone hotline was not operating correctly, but that additional staff had been assigned to handle absentee ballots and election preparations.

President Obama to wrap up election campaigning in Iowa

Washington (CNN) – President Obama will wrap up his re-election campaign Monday with a rally in Des Moines, Iowa, his campaign announced Thursday. Early Monday, Obama will be stumping in Wisconsin and Ohio before heading to Iowa. The Monday stops will cap a weekend of cross-country campaigning.

Iowa was crucial to the president's 2008 victory – both his win in the state's caucuses that helped propel him to the Democratic nomination, and he captured the state in the general election with a 54%-44% victory over John McCain.

In Sandy's shadow, Romney back to politics

Roanoke, Virginia (CNN) - Mitt Romney effectively ended a two-day truce on the campaign trail Thursday, picking up again his attacks on the president after two days of less partisan rhetoric in the wake of the devastation caused by Superstorm Sandy.

At his first stop on a three-rally swing through Virginia, the GOP presidential nominee launched into a new criticism of Barack Obama, knocking the president's idea of streamlining his cabinet by installing a "Secretary of Business" who could handle a variety of tasks currently handled by different departments.

Romney super PAC attacks Obama 'fantasy land'

Madison, Wisconsin (CNN) - A new mail piece from the pro-Mitt Romney super PAC Restore Our Future envisions a second term "big government fantasy land" for President Obama where "spending, debt and taxes lead to prosperity."

The mailer portrays the president strolling through a fairy tale world populated by snails, shooting stars, mushrooms, flamingos and a man in the moon hovering over fog-shrouded river.
