President Obama to wrap up election campaigning in Iowa

Washington (CNN) – President Obama will wrap up his re-election campaign Monday with a rally in Des Moines, Iowa, his campaign announced Thursday. Early Monday, Obama will be stumping in Wisconsin and Ohio before heading to Iowa. The Monday stops will cap a weekend of cross-country campaigning.

Iowa was crucial to the president's 2008 victory – both his win in the state's caucuses that helped propel him to the Democratic nomination, and he captured the state in the general election with a 54%-44% victory over John McCain.

He has visited the state at least 11 times this year.

While the state only has six electoral votes, they could be key depending on how some of the larger states break.

Obama was at 50% among likely Iowa voters, and Romney at 44%, according to a NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist poll released Thursday. That's slightly tighter than earlier in October, though the result was just outside the poll's sampling error of plus or minus 2.9 percentage points. A poll released Wednesday indicated a much tighter race in the Hawkeye State – the University of Iowa survey had Obama at 42.7% and Romney at 41%.

Mitt Romney will be ending his campaign Monday with an event in Manchester, New Hampshire – another small state whose four electoral votes could be pivotal. Romney, who has visited Iowa at least 14 times this year, will be stopping in Dubuque, Iowa on Saturday as part of his last weekend campaign blitz. Republicans think Romney's campaign was got a boost from the endorsement of the state's largest newspaper, the Des Moines Register, last weekend.

In the end, President Obama has not put forth an agenda for a second term. His best argument is "That guy is BAD!"

The American people have seen differently. Not all of them, but enough of them, have seen that Romney is not a bad guy – that the image put forth in the ads and the media simply aren't true.

The states Obama had a "lock" on are crumbling. The independent voters and even some Democrats have answered that basic question "Are you better off now than you were four years ago" in the negative.

Instead of "four more years" we only have "five more days."

    I can't wait.

  2. Critical Thinking

Iowa's largest newspaper has endorsed Mitt Romney, delivering a blow to President Barack Obama, who it endorsed in 2008.

The Des Moines Register's editorial board wrote that Obama's "best efforts to resuscitate the stumbling economy have fallen short. Nothing indicates it would change with a second term in the White House."

I guess he going back to see if he can change their minds. Sorry Mr. President, too little and much, much too late.

It's Time: BO MUST GO !

Where was he last year when the government flooded Western Iowa? Not just Western Iowa. They flooded everything from South Dakota to St. Louis! He didn't need our vote then so he didn't care. Screw him.

Google Real Clear Politics election results......If you remove Rasmussen polls from ALL president, Senate, and House polls reported on today, the entire page for Thursday, November 1 is blue....(they color code each race by who is ahead)......Is it coincidence that Scott Rasmussen is a paid FOX News contributor and rumor has it that he is paid extra by GOP SuperPacs to overcall southern states in his mix of calls.

I have traveled to three out of the four corners of Iowa for my job during the last two weeks, and have seen more Romney signs than any other Republican candidate has had in the last 20 years. Based on people I am speaking with in central Iowa, I am confident that Romney will win Iowa by at least 2 points. As another anecdote, I know 2 life-long Democrats who are voting for Romney, and neither has ever previously voted for a Republican presidential candidate. Don't assume that Democrats going to the polls equates to votes for Obama, just as Republicans going to the polls did not equate to a McCain vote four years ago.

  7. Iowa born

I live near Dubuque, a town on the Mississippi River with only 60,000 people and this Saturday both Romney and Obama are going to be in town. It is funny because after the Iowa Caucus we are usually ignored.

I don't know about the other half of Iowa but both candidates seemed to have skipped the yard signs here. 4 years ago you couldn't turn around with out bumping into one.

The election will be about getting out the vote. Obama's ground game in swing states will launch him to a second term. If McCain and Palin can receive 46 % of the vote last time around, Romney will at least gather that much nationally. It would would be rather fitting if Romney get 47% of the popular vote.

Final strategy same as the past four years, raise taxes, over regulate business, incur more annual trillion dollar deficits. In other words, just more of the same failed policies that got us in the economic mess we are in now.

Hint: Obama appearances in Blue states previously thought of as safe for the media-anointed, self-proclaimed Obamessiah is his out-of-money campaign's overt acknowledgement of the coming Romney landslide.

Who better to set tax code, thatbgreatly effects commerce, and business in general, than a tax cheat? who better to be commander in chief, than a draft dodger? thats all the further i had to go, above all, integrity is what a good president needs, and mittens will never posses that. some things really just are that simple

At the risk of repeating myself, let me repeat myself: Romney needs to be doing his GOOD-BYE tour. There is no need to leave this for the night of his concession speech on November 6th. Cancel New Hampshire and all points in between and start writing personal notes of apologies to the Koch brothers, Addelson, and all the other greedy yet hopeful 1%ers that thought thye could buy you into the Oval Office.
Then there's the wailing and the screaming of the bloggers that you will unemployed and blubbering on this thread to contend with. I don't know what you can do for them besides make them dissappear with you.
Best of nothing to you Mittens.
    Adios!
    Obama 2012. Seriously America.

he might as well stop in Chicago on the way home and look for a new house to live in come January! If he is defending these traditionally blue states a few days before the end of the election then he knows he is in very deep doo doo. Our long national nightmare is almost over.

Laughable that many seem to forget the Fly on the Wall Robmey video.
The 47% of Americans are no better that the dirt on his show.
Robmey said he has no plans for the economy, that if he is President he will do NOTHING. People will just spend their money when they want.

  17. Embarrased by Cheap Romney Tactics

Romney = BULLY = he assaulted a classmate in private school, LIAR = recent adds lying about Obama's welfare policy, Obamas "relationship" with certain hispanics, and the automobile agency building Jeeps in China for the Chinese, HYPOCRITE = Not enough space here to describe the dozens of duisgusting flip-flops he makes on a daily basis.

Romney = unfit for ANY office.

Sorry Lane. If you indeed lost 3 jobs in the last 3+ years (which is unusual for a state with around 5.5% unemployment), the people responsible for that are either A)currently pumping water out of their building in the financial district, or B)left Washington in shame 4 years ago. Obama didn't deregulate Wall Street, he didn't get us into 2 wars and originate tax cuts to the wealthy that weren't paid for, he doesn't raise gas prices, and simply isn't Superman. This terrible recession was caused by reckless spending and policymaking by the previous president, and no one could've brought back the worse economy since the Great Depression in 4 years. If you are serious about not losing a fourth job, you need to look towards a President who won't repeat the same mistakes of the Bush presidency.

    Isn't that special?!
Meanwhile, Iowa is going for President Obama.
They are down to earth and real in Iowa.
They are NOT falling for the 3,000 Romney signs, the 2 lifelong Dems voting for him, and the lies that are his poltical ads.

The closer we get to the election, the more polls keep favoring Obama. Outside of Rasmussen Polls, which are right leaning, Obama is going to be re-elected. It also looks like the Dems will hold the senate and gain in the House. If the polls are right and Obama is re-elected, in the next four years America will prosper only because the GOP will work with him and we can start moving FORWARD!

When Obama took office, gas was approximately 1.85 a gallon, it is now hovers between 3.50 and 4.00 a gallon. When Obama took office I had recieved a raise every year. I have not recieved one since, and i consider myself lucky because I have a job. When Obama took office, one great benefit of the Flexible Spending Health Plans, allowed me to purchase over the counter drugs with my Flexible Spending. His great health plan, (that he and the rest of congress are exempt from) took that away.
Please explain why I would ever want to vote for him again?

President Obama has a RECORD to run on and, unfortunately for him, that record is abysmal! Did the Democratic leadership really think that young voters would let fat, lazy, government bureaucrats tell them how much soda, salt, sugar, fat, etc. they could eat or what kind of toilet, lightbulb, shower head, car they could have?? Or regulate their internet? These kids won't even listen to their parents or bosses, but they're going let the Democrats micromanage their lives? Ya, right.......
