Biden: Team Romney like 'a kid trying to outrun his shadow'

Arvada, Colorado (CNN) - Three days before the presidential election, Vice President Joe Biden made a prediction: the sun will go down on Mitt Romney's presidential hopes on Tuesday.

During a rally in Colorado, the vice president teed up his premonition.

"You saw those debates?" Biden asked the crowd. "You began to wonder. Gov. Romney and Congressman Ryan seem to be running as fast away from their positions as they can. It's like watching a guy, a little kid trying to outrun his shadow, man! It keeps coming up to him. It's like whoa!"

"It's still there," Biden added. "Shadow doesn't go away until the sun goes down. It's going down Tuesday night! That's what's going down."

Apparently not intent on political slams with just one daytime metaphor, the vice president used another: referring to the upcoming Daylight Savings time – where Americans will turn their clocks back an hour early Sunday.

"It's Mitt Romney's favorite time of the year because he gets to turn the clock back," the vice president said, prompting laughter and applause from supporters. "He wants to turn that clock back so desperately. This time he can really do it tonight."

The Obama campaign has frequently claimed that Romney's economic and social policies are throwbacks to yesteryear.

Biden's comments came at Arvada High School in the City of Arvada in the Denver metropolitan area. The city is located in Jefferson County, Colorado's fourth most populated. In 2008, then Sen. Barack Obama won the county by nine points over Sen. John McCain, helping him win the Centennial State by nine points.

Current polls do not forecast such an advantage in Colorado for the Obama campaign. A recent CNN/ORC International poll showed that 50% of likely voters support Obama with 48% for Romney, well within the survey's margin of error. The poll is reflective of others that showed a tight race in Colorado.

At the event, Biden also continued to lay out nuggets of the campaign's closing argument. On one issue, the vice president was especially provocative.

While repeating his frequent slam against Romney's secretly-recorded comments that 47% of Americans are dependent on the government and refuse to take responsibility for their lives, Biden asked a question about Republican policies that, he claimed, favor the wealthy at the expense of the middle class.

"I'm trying to figure…why would they do this stuff?" the vice president asked. "Because they're not bad men."

Biden continued: "It's because, I truly believe, if you look at all their policies, the fundamental dividing line between the president and me and Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan who talks about the culture of dependency and all this stuff, here's what I think the fundamental difference is: I don't think, I don't think they have confidence in average Americans."

"I think they really do believe, unless the enlightened, the wealthy, the powerful are absolutely able to have their hands on the wheel and direct everything, that we're in trouble."

Meanwhile, the man who wants the vice president's job also framed closing arguments on Saturday.

In another battleground state, Ohio, Ryan stressed that his team's message is far more positive than that coming from the Obama campaign.

"In 2008 he appealed to our highest aspirations, now he's appealing to our lowest fears," Ryan said of the president.

Looking at reality, Romney is the most qualified man to run for president in the last 40 years. He has the leadership skills and experience to make this nation great again – because we are not there now. President Obama said he would be a one term president if he did not cut the deficit in half. He has not done that! Why would we want Obama for another 4 more years, when he doesn’t understand the economy and all of his policies have weakened it. Why would we want Obama, when has put us over the fiscal cliff. He hasn’t strengthened, but crippled us. Do we really want to pile trillions of dollars upon the backs of our children? This is what this president has done.

Vice President Biden is right on this one. Gov. Romney spent years overseeing corporate mergers and takeovers. Jobs were ELM'iNATED and the timing was right for corporations to send jobs overseas where goods could be manufactured at a cheaper rate. China benefitted greatly from this. I dare anyone to go to any big box store to see just where items are made. Just look in the toy dept. Nearly every toy is made in China – even those toy companies which were mainstays in the 60's and 70's. Now the toys are made in China and who is making the profits.

Now Gov. Romney is complaining about China. We are silly enough to believe what he is saying. Folks, this downturn did not just start 4 years ago. We helped it along by purchasing all these goods made in China. Our friends and neighbors lost their jobs but we did not complain or give them enough support. Many other countries have felt this economic downturn. They are suffering even more than we most of us. The 47% are being left behind while we whine about China, crushing debts, high energy costs, etc. No one speaks of cooperation. No on speaks about the lack of action on the part of Congress. No one speaks of the partisanship that is tearing at the fabric of our society. No one is even talking about the role Mr. Romney and his company played in this downturn. When will we learn to be truthful and see our politicians telling us what happened, what they could have done to stop this downturn, and what they will do about it. Last but not least, we need to vote with an understanding of exactly what went on and who had a part in the downfall. The blame falls on many shoulders.

Joe Biden used some humor about Romney and Ryan chasing their shadows. Thank you Chrysler management! Thank you GM management! Mitt Romney has engaged in the most outrageous, lack of integrity and desperate attempt to distort the truth probably ever in any Presidential campaign. The Romney camp “has no shame” and is flailing with wild jabs unbecoming of honorable men.

Biden is so pathetic. He really can't put anything verbal into any kind of structure that makes sense.

No matter how much team Obama lies about Romney, it won't change the fact, that team Obama has been a total FAILURE!

America has become a shallow empty headed nation.
Obama turns up in a bomber jacket in disaster areas for a photo op and gets hailed as a hero.
Romney actually does some good with his own money by sending staff to Walmart to purchase some much needed items for people in need and you guessed right , he gets sneered at by rabid Dems .
I don't know what would have to happen to take off that partisan hat just for one or two days.
    Shame on you all.

Obama wants to build this country to where it once was before the gop destroyed it The gop are obstructionists who favor the wealthy and cannot be trusted. The Vice President is right. Romney is not going to win the election as the electorate knows what a phony he is.

"In 2008 he appealed to our highest aspirations, now he's appealing to our lowest fears," Ryan said of the president.
Really? Like the threat of invasion by China if we don't have a military 200 times more powerful than any other on the planet? Or is it more like Death Panels set up to determine who gets help at the hospital and who gets sentenced to death unless you go with a voucher program? Or that the fiscal cliff will come to pass if we don't go with your budget plan? What fears is Obama pushing again?

Sounds like Ryan has that backwards! The RR's & GOT-Party are masters at fear mongering! The latest is, of course, the auto-industry Lie! I've read people actually thought they'd be losing their jobs! What a dirty trick to play on voters! The RR's were admonished by several auto-industry officials, but doubled down, as usual! The sad truth is they don't have to "fear monger," their words/ideas are scary enough! Let's force a woman or girl who's lived thru a violent crime, give birth to a s.exual molesters offspring! Words aren't adequate to express the lunacy!! I agree w/VP Biden that the 1% (& RR's) really believe the rich are smarter than us & we are nothing if we aren't a mil-billionaire! Have Mercy! Forward, Obama!!
