(CNN) - Two days before Election Day, the race between President Barack Obama and Republican nominee Mitt Romney remains locked in a virtual dead heat nationally, according to a poll released Sunday.
Obama has the support of 48% of likely voters, while Romney has 47% in the NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll. Two weeks ago, the same organizations' poll had the candidates each at 47% support nationally.

The new poll also shows 68% of those surveyed approved of the president's handling of Superstorm Sandy. Only 15% disapproved.
A separate poll released early Sunday morning indicated Obama and Romney were tied at 48%, according to the ABC News/Washington Post survey.
For the survey, 1,475 likely voters were interviewed by telephone from November 1 to November 3. The sampling error is plus or minus 2.55 percentage points.

I'm sorry, I'm confused. What is there to disapprove of the way President Obama handled the Sandy situation? Come on America I thought we were better than that.
Woo Hooo! 55 hours!
Romney’s early consulting for Monsanto was effective in shifting Monsanto’s strategy from a focus on reputation-tarnishing chemical compounds to genetically engineered food and the profitable RoundUp weed killer. Romney was so effective that then-Monsanto CEO John W. Hanley helped him create Bain Capital.
Virtual tie huh...that is why cnn always has Obama up by a point or two...they all lie...just vote Romney and get rid of the communist losers in this country.
Republican voters will believe anything if they think Romney is going to win.
538: Nate Silver
President Obama is now better than a 4-in-5 favorite to win the Electoral College, according to the FiveThirtyEight forecast. His chances of winning it increased to 83.7 percent on Friday, his highest figure since the Denver debate and improved from 80.8 percent on Thursday.
Friday’s polling should make it easy to discern why Mr. Obama has the Electoral College advantage. There were 22 polls of swing states published Friday. Of these, Mr. Obama led in 19 polls, and two showed a tie. Mitt Romney led in just one of the surveys, a Mason-Dixon poll of Florida.
If people would actually learn about Obamacare no one in their right mind would consider it good for American citizens. All most people know is that it insures all Americans so they feel good about it. Forget that fact that it will put commercial insurers out of the healthcare insurance business. Good luck dealing with the government oin this. Forget the fact that it will drive truly phenominal people away from the healthcare field because they will not be able to justify going into some much debt and not be able to be paid appropriately for their services. They will be working for the government. obama says you will be able to keep your current doctor. My ass....only if you can afford healthcare with no insurance. Not only will Obamacare hurt our economy, it will destroy to worlds best healthcare system. You will feel it when you have a family member that needs immediate help and is told they will need to wait a month. We need to be guided by our heads and not our heart on this issue.
The black and Latino communities are really making a statement in Florida this election.
In St. Petersburg, the lines stretched around 2 entire city blocks.
Lines over 5 hours long for early voting.
Never saw anything like this in my entire life.
I continue to be baffled that anyone in America can possibly vote for Romney, who does not tell the truth about a single issue, nor about his own business past destroying businesses that he has bought. Never mind that his policies are inhuman and appalling and full of racism, sexism and homophobia. His economic plan is nothing to be proud of.
Also, I have always been polled heavily here in Ohio, in every election since 2000. I have had exactly two calls this time around – one from the hate group American Family Association, and one from Planned Parenthood – neither party has called me at all, which is sort of amazing since I am registered independent. And that's on my land line. Are people forgetting that polling generally does not call cell phone numbers? I know virtually nobody with a land line any more except me, and it's not just young people, it's people my age (59). I am hoping that the US does not elect these religious zealots and send the country even further towards a theocracy based on fundamentalism
If you look at the trend lines since Oct 22 on 538 you see that Obama has steadily been gaining and today up again.
Obama widened his lead now up at 306 electoral votes Romney dropped to 231
Even RealClearPol with No Tossup States has Obama up at 290 with Romney dropping to 248.
2 days left and Obama trending up with a big lead already. You do the math.
I see that Guliani is proud of Romney's work record with Bain. That if Romney is elected we will all have jobs. I'm not sure about the rest of you but I don't look forward to commuting to Cambodia, Libiya, China or wherever Romnbey would outsource all those jobs to. I don't even know what the exchange rate is on Ruppees to Dollars or Dinars to Dollars and I Dam sure don't want my wife and children ostrasized in whatever third world, poverty stricken, cheap labor haven Romney chooses to senfd our American jobs.
But Guliani is rich so he and Romney will be sipping Mai-Tais concocted by lesser people, while American Workers are shipped off to find the jobs and futuires Romney will sell for a dime.
On tuesday the voters should seriously think about where the country was economically and in global perspective when GW left after eight years as president and where the country is now and the direction it is heading. In spite what the Romney camp is trying to paint, the country by all measures is moving in the right direction under president Obama and the next four years will see yet better days under him. Changing it now into the hands of a guy (Romney) whose only experience is consolidating busineses, cutting jobs of many employees (the middle class and the poor) to make a few shareholders rich and sending jobs to china to make himself richer would be a monumental mistake.
I am not American, but Canadian. Maybe you might think this isn't any of my business, by I find American politics, especially elections, fascinating. What I can't understand is how anyone is their right mind would EVER think of voting republican in this election (or any IMHO). Republican supporters have very short-term memories. When you go to the polls, remember Obama and the Dems are cleaning up the messes that Dubya and the Reps left.
I would also really like some "real" opinions on why most Americans don't support "Obamacare" or any form of social heathcare...thanks! ;)
Former Governor Romney is toast. He is just going through the motions before he shuffles off the stage. Let us all hope that he doesn't decide to try again in 4 years. His money and complete lack of compunction about lying continuously are the only things that got him the nomination this time.
Poll after poll after poll after poll after poll. And now we end up with a virtual tie. When it is hopefully over how about a group of polls asking what we think of polls. As it is when the election is over we will go back to our daily polls about 'interesting' unlimited subjects. This will keep the polling people employed and enlighten we who suffer their disgusting daily polls.
The media spin doctors are hard at work trying to set up a possible supreme court case. Every random poll I have taken from average citizens show obama is preferred over romney 8 to 1 with little variation throughout demographics. If this is true, how could the media get different results? Someone is lying and I am sure it is the media. The only thing we have to figure out is the why.
Why didn't the Democratic Party give Americans an alternative to Obama?
Hey President Obama we still waiting for help!
Here's some of the insanity the republican party will pursue if Romney gets elected. This planet is sick. The repubs will make it sicker. The Republican platform will pursue dirty coal, dismantle the protections of the EPA, give carte blanche to the fossil fuel industry, allow national parks to decline and sell off much of the land (while not taxing the 1% who earn 80% of the income), and many other environmentally hostile measures. Like it or not, when the environment suffers, we suffer. Don't vote for the selfish right, don't let them continue to line their own pockets & the pockets of the wealthy while they turn a deaf ear to the poor & middle class. They do not care about anyone but themselves, the rich, & keeping them rich – & the planet be damned. Vote for Obama in November!
Good grief - people like Seve must get all their news from Fox. Not a word of his rant about Obamacare is true. I suppose he (or she) thinks the US found weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. And did you know the moon landings were staged in the New Mexico desert? And Richard Nixon hired Oswald to kill JFK?
The fact that the "great speaker" and supposedly popular President is in a virtual tie with his opponent 2 days before election day tells you how many people are unhappy with the job he's done so far. If Romney was so terrible then Obama should have locked this up and made it a no-contest weeks ago.
And a PPP poll shows a 50-47% lead for the President
