Election 2012: What about the poor?

New York (CNNMoney) - One wants to strengthen the nation's existing safety net. The other wants to overhaul it.

President Barack Obama and challenger Mitt Romney have vastly different views on how to help the 46.2 million Americans in poverty and the more than 30 million people who are near poor. The president leans toward expanding the programs that exist, while the Republicans say they will set up a system that fosters economic opportunity instead of government dependency.

I am poor and I am going to vote for Obama, because he understands me. Romney is a rich guy who doesn't care about poor people and he ships our jobs over seas.

So Romney says he will create 12 million jobs, really? 1st of all corporations have 1 thought, "their bottom line", they want to pay as little as possible and will have 1 employee doing the work that in reality takes 2 or 3 employees, and the statement people will bring home higher pay, really? Unless he dictates what employers will pay, his statement of higher wages and bring home pay is rediculous and so out of touch with how the real world works! Let the US keep moving FORWARD!

Those people???? Never mind! America can become profitable again if we just ignore them! You think? The hidden costs of poverty are VERY high! Christianity anyone?
Romney has never even seen an inner city! Or anyone that is homeless! So how would he know?

What about the poor? Some will be waiting to see if they have to actually find a job, or if they will continue to get their welfare. The rest will be taxed to pay for the welfare. The big difference is.........the middle class will disappear, if we continue on the current track, and they were the ones who always paid for the welfare.......so that is in fact endangered, anyway you look at it.

The realities of fiscal conditions, in America, are about to hit home.

    What about the poor?

The poor you will always have with you
    Matthew 26:11

When did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’
The King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.’ “Then He will also say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels; Matthew 25:39-41

YOU NOT GOVERNMENT are to take care of the poor

My son is a construction worker and his wife is a waitress. Both work full-time for businesses that do not provide health insurance coverage. Their children currently receive coverage through Medicaid, but my son and his wife have no coverage. My daughter-in-law is in dire need of surgery to remove her gall bladder, but she cannot have the surgery unless a life-threatening emergency arises, because the hospital requires thousands of dollars up front. If President Obama's health care plan is implemented, the working poor will not encounter problems such as these. My son and his wife cannot afford to pay for individual insurance now, but with the Health Care Reform Act, they would have the leverage of belonging to groups of similar people. Mitt Romney doesn't care about such people. He doesn't realize that many people are WORKING AS HARD AS THEY CAN, BUT STILL NEED ASSISTANCE!!!

Have you noticed that just like in 2008, Michelle Obama is no where in sight. She never shows up at events with her husband like Mitt Romney and Ann Romney do. Is it perhaps because she is visiting the orthodontist?

What do you mean, what about the poor??? Who has been working tirelessly trying to help the poor and the middle class? Who is being called the Food Stamp President?? Geez cnn, some of your topics are really stupid. You spend months sucking up to the GOP, allowing them to call President Obama names, saying he is the reason so many are on welfare, and now the day before the election, it's who is worried about the poor? One thing we know for a fact is Willard isn't. He said so in his 47% speech. The poor better get themselves out and vote for the man that is at least offering them some help, because Willard could care less.

    OBAMA 2012!

President Obama cares about the poor. Romney and the Republicans see them as ‘lower caste’ and less than human.

What is so sad, is that Romney and the Republicans don’t even discriminate for those poor Republicans voters who vote for them.

Uh – President Obama has been pushing for years to get help for people who need to be re-educated for jobs available now and in the future. But it will do no good if they die of starvation or their families starve waiting for it to happen.

Don't ever trust a Mormon. They lie thru their teeth to get what they want. I've known lots of them, and they're all the same.

those who vote for obama deserve what is coming to them, as they are too blind at this time to see what he really stands for. They deserve it, unfortunately their children do not.

A countries true measure of success is how it treats its poor, I understand brother takes care of brother, sister, mother father, but there comes a time when more is needed, people don't like being poor. Walk in to an office and look at the faces and into the eyes of those who ask for help. They carry shame about them like a cloak, they don't want to their children to see them like this, they feel like they've failed. Then their are those who ridicule them for being poor and not being able to stand on their own. I once worked as a gaurd, driving prisoners to their bus terminals on release day. As I went into the prison I use to think there but for the grace of could be me. Be thankful what you have in life and don't try and shame those that don't. In the end you only shame yourself.

    Lucid One
