Rubio to headline fundraiser for Iowa governor

(CNN) – Republican Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida will headline a birthday fundraiser for Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad next week, a spokesman for the governor announced Thursday.

The speaking gig will no doubt stir talk of a potential 2016 presidential bid for Rubio, as the event provides the first-term senator the chance to mingle with the Republican class in Iowa, the first state to hold caucuses in a presidential election.

At last year's fundraiser, six of the Republican presidential hopefuls had a speaking slot, with the exception of Mitt Romney. Newt Gingrich showed up late to the event, and did not give remarks.

A rising star in the Republican Party, Rubio was vetted for the GOP vice presidential spot and served as a top surrogate for Mitt Romney, particularly among the Latino voting bloc.

Rubio has no backbone. He allowed Mitt Romney to insult him with his, "if I were Latino" (sic) comment. Latinos vote based on the issues....not the ethnicity of the candidate. Rubio just nodded instead of reminding Romney of that.

Most Floridians know that Rubio is a flawed candidate who has enough baggage to be sent around the world.

Can we please have just one week free of potentual 2016 loosers asking for money. We need to get some work done people . Rubio has a better chance running for office in Cuba in 2016 .

For the GOP, Rubio is to Hispanics, as Palin is to women. Not much.

Looking like republicans are trying to change! Maybe they will start listing to the people instead of telling the people what to believe! No character assassination is necessary when leaders show they actually have and respect others character!!! When one is lacking it shows It's self!!

You can't assassinate someone's character with the truth, and Floridians know all about little marco's past: Using the RPOF credit card for personal expenses, house in Tallahassee foreclosed, lied about his parents' immigrant status. And those were just off the top of my head.

Robio is dead meat in FL. They know that he is a yes sir man. He is trying to look like he cares about the people but the people know, His mouth was closed want Scott stared the voting laws. He nothing but a FAKE and check out his history. Nothing but lies.

I think Mr. Rubio needs to spend more time working as a Senator and less time as a Republican mouth piece. Maybe he will get elected the next time.

Rubio would bring in a huge block of Latinos to the republicans side, as he can identify with them. As always Wire Palladin once again shows he has no idea what he is talking about

He starts running before he accomplished anything; it is so predictable he should ask Ryan about the hype and how it worked out for him. Give us now a lot of Rubio will get tiered of him in four years.

Rubio could get the Hispanic vote if he didn't take his marching orders from the Bush's, Koch Bros., Karl Rove, Grover Norquist, Rush Limbaugh, Gov. Jane Brewer of Arizona, Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Az, and don't forget John Sununu. How in the World did Rubio get mixed up with this gang of Hispanic haters is beyond me.

There will be no Rep. Presidential victory for a few decades. The right wing becomes more conservative and the moderate will be more liberal so there will not be any consensus at all. 2016 is for Hillary Clinton and she will be a great Pres. so Republicans have all the time in the world working onit's own unity.

If Rubio’s momentum and clout continues to pick up within the GOP; it will be interesting to watch and see how he will need to kowtow to the Tea Party fascists; who are fast becoming the New Republican Party.
    Waiting with baited breath….

I'll start worrying about that right after they sentence Dubya, Cheney at al. for war crimes and the deaths of 6,000 US soldiers. QED.

Please STOP referring to my senator as a "Rising Star" He is no star, he should be busy representing me. Instead he grandstands and has accomplished nothing. Your self proclaimed status label is hurting the political process. They act out as if they were TV stars, because you keep labelling them so.

So now, right after the American people made their choice, the Republicans are trotting out Marco Rubio, as a means to capture to the Hispanic vote for the next election cycle. It's quite apparent that they aren't doing this out of commitment or conviction.......but merely out of calculation. A bit insulting if you ask me. Do they actually believe that having turned their back on the Hispanic community over the past 50 years, they can reverse this by trotting out an Hispanic face.....a wolf in sheep's clothing. I really find it hard to believe that the Republicans are so dense, and think so poorly of Hispanic Americans.

Majority of the Old White Conservatives in the republican party will not vote for him. He will get votes from Moderate republicans during the primary contest but the republican party is rule by the Tea Party. And if you not one of them they will not vote for u

BTW, if he runs, Democratics will probably have a Woman running during that time or another Hispanics. .

Florida is a joke. To have lines like that and to be counting ballots after every election for weeks is just a disgrace. They run elections like a banana republic. Obama must see to it that the situation is rectified and that elected officials in Florida start acting like adults instead of politcally motivated children.

......Putting friends and family on his government payroll. Did they actually work? Couldn't tell you. Smells of nepotism with a hint of impropriety.
As you can see, just askin, there will be no need to assassinate Rubio's character even if we were so inclined. Indeed, Rubio and every other prominent so-called Republican manages to do that quite exquisitely well on their own.
