BREAKING: CIA Director Petraeus resigns

(CNN) - CIA Director David Petraeus submitted his resignation to President Barack Obama, citing personal reasons, a U.S. government source told CNN.

The source said Petreaus admitted to an extra-marital affair.

In a statement issued Friday, he said: "After being married for over 37 years, I showed extremely poor judgment by engaging in an extramarital affair. Such behavior is unacceptable, both as a husband and as the leader of an organization such as ours. This afternoon, the President graciously accepted my resignation."

Proving once again that no matter what someone looks like, if you have power, you can always find someone to sleep with you! On the other hand, thanks for resigning before this became a circus!

Why am I reminded of an old Richard Pryor joke about the guy was cheating on your wife and began looking for "new" women.

Clinton had an affair and lied then didn't step down, but my guess is Petraeus' resignation is over Libya. He should come clean next week and tell the truth about Benghazi, but that's probably wishful thinking given that he has the morals of Clinton.

Seems fishy to me–yes he made a poor judgment in his marriage, but parting from the CIA over it? Maybe he doesn't want to get sucked into the coming storm.. think Benghazi. Just a thought..?

Total fabrication.... He can't stand working for Obama anymore. Obama and Clinton trying to pin Benghazi on the CIA was the last straw. I'm sure he ws none to pleased to see those 4 Americans die needlessly while the military sat on their hands and Obama went off to campaign fund raisers.

Why do I get the impression this is about more than an extramarital affair? I can't help but think Petraeus was the "mole" who gave Fox News first hand information on Bengazi. Instead of being charged with treason, Obama must have given him the option to resign in disgrace.

CIA Director David Petraeus and former General is a respected profesional .

His personal life is not for me to judge , I wish him and his family the best . Relationships are not easy , and nor is public life.

I admire him for his honesty in regards to his affair .

Well we forgave Bill Clinton and John Kennedy ... accept his apology, deny approval of his resignation, and get back to business.
You who have never sinned cast the first stone . Petraus is too talented a man to lose due to his troubled personal life. Forgive him.

Hold on a minute!!! Who's to say he wasn't "set-up" because he would not dance to 'their' tune. Try not to forget.....the way you judge will also be used to judge you....careful.

People trying to make this a partisan issue AND trying to make Benghazi a partisan issue are disgusting.

Yeah. He and his wife got together and decided the only "manly" way he could leave the CIA was to make up a story over having an affair with another women and then go public with the story.

    Shaking in laughter.

An affair? Ho-hum. His European counterparts wouldn't dream of resigning over an activity that is considered to be expected of high-profile A-type personalities.
