(CNN) - CIA Director David Petraeus submitted his resignation to President Barack Obama, citing personal reasons, a U.S. government source told CNN.
The source said Petreaus admitted to an extra-marital affair.
In a statement issued Friday, he said: "After being married for over 37 years, I showed extremely poor judgment by engaging in an extramarital affair. Such behavior is unacceptable, both as a husband and as the leader of an organization such as ours. This afternoon, the President graciously accepted my resignation."

Clinton had an affair and lied then didn't step down, but my guess is Petraeus' resignation is over Libya. He should come clean next week and tell the truth about Benghazi, but that's probably wishful thinking given that he has the morals of Clinton.
Seems fishy to me–yes he made a poor judgment in his marriage, but parting from the CIA over it? Maybe he doesn't want to get sucked into the coming storm.. think Benghazi. Just a thought..?

Why do I get the impression this is about more than an extramarital affair? I can't help but think Petraeus was the "mole" who gave Fox News first hand information on Bengazi. Instead of being charged with treason, Obama must have given him the option to resign in disgrace.

His personal life is not for me to judge , I wish him and his family the best . Relationships are not easy , and nor is public life.
