Washington (CNN) - Flush with re-election vigor, President Barack Obama called Friday for House Republicans to immediately pass a bill already approved by the Senate to extend current tax rates for middle class Americans while allowing a tax hike for wealthier citizens.
In his first public comments since winning Tuesday's vote, Obama expressed openness to negotiate with Congress on how to deal with pending tax hikes and spending cuts that create the so-called fiscal cliff facing the economy at the end of the year.

If Adelson and company have billions to drop on an election that gave them a roughly 2% return, they can afford to pay a little more. I'm tired of subsidizing them for the last 3 decades.

Bullspittle. Obama is offering to meet half way by saying that he will accept $2.50 in cuts for every $1.00 in additional revenue. All Boehner and the GOP/Teatrolls have done is say they will absolutely not accept any tax increases whatsoever and that we should move forward by doing pretty much exactly what Mittens ran on. THAT is a refusal to compromise.

If he proposes and pushes for something, you complain that the uppity brown POTUS is telling you what to do. Get over it. WE WON. Let's do it your way. If they earn 70% of all income, then they should pay 70% of all taxes. But if they earn 80% of all income, but only pay 60% of all taxes, then they should get a tax increase. Right.

What super majority in the Congress? That's another factual distortion swirling around the right wing's filtered reality. At best, it might have existed long enough to pass the auto bailouts and the Stimulus, both of which the American people wanted to see pass. Ted Kennedy missed more days in 2009 than what he attended. He passed in August.
Besides, Independent Joe Leiberman voted with the GOP on taxes, as did a couple of blue dogs. Democrats did not hae a filibuster proof majority in the Senate on all issues. Don't forget that Scott Brown was sworn in January 2010.
So exactly how is "closing loopholes" going to NOT be a tax hike, since conservatives see doing so as "backdoor tax hikes"???
Last year, a commentator got a LOT of flak from Senator Rob Portman's (R-d'OH) staff because he wrote in an article that Portman supported closing loopholes. The staffer railed on him for putting in black and white that Portman "supported backdoor tax hikes"!
Of course the rich can pay more taxes and so they should.
However , to think that is going to solve any problems with your economy , debt and unemployment , you are very much mistaken.

The only time Obama had a super majority in Congress was until male model Scott Brown was sworn in to the Senate on February 4, 2010. Less than 13 months.
During those few months, the stock markets nearly doubled, GDP went from MINUS 5% to over PLUS 4%, and the country turned job loses of over 800.000 per month into positive job gains.
The tax cuts were not extended until after the election of 2010. And the Senate, with 41 republican seats, set new records for filibusters, blocking Obama's agenda at every opportunity. And the Progress slowed.

Heck YES! I don't care how the President does it–or what Harry Reid has to do to the Senate rules–but it's way past time for the tighty Righties to hear us loud & clear, and work for the good of the country for a change, and not genuflect before Grover Norquist and the TPersr!
And, I really think the ultra-wealthy can buck up and pay 3-3.5% more on income >250,000. It's not like he's asking for a return to Eisenhower tax rates, or even Reagan tax rates! Good grief, people.
Nobody needs to do anything. All of the tax cuts will automatically expire and the Democrats will reap that massive tax windfall they have been demanding now for years and years. Obamacare will add bilions and billions to that as well. I don't get it. Why aren't the Democrats in tax heaven at this point??? That will have achieved their Holy Grail of massive tax hikes! Time to break out the champagne and celebrate because that will generate huge economic prosperity according to the Democrats.
