Democrats pick up another seat in the House

(CNN) - Democrat Kyrsten Sinema has defeated Republican Vernon Parker in the race for Arizona's 9th Congressional District, CNN projected Monday.

Sinema's win in the newly-created district adds one more seat to the list of pick-ups for Democrats in the House, putting the breakdown at 234 Republicans, 196 Democrats and two independents.

Including Sinema's win in Arizona, Democrats have gained a net of three seats in the House this cycle.

Sinema, a former state senator, had 48.1% of the vote compared to Parker, the former mayor of Paradise Valley, at 45.3%, according to the office of Arizona's Secretary of State on Monday.

Both parties had invested heavily in the race, though a Democratic super PAC had tipped the TV ad war balance of power slightly in the Democrat's favor.

Five races remain too close to call from last week's elections, including contests in Arizona, Florida, North Carolina and two races in California.

While Democrats have an edge in all five, a sixth unresolved House race will be settled in a December 8 run-off between two Republican incumbents, guaranteeing a GOP seat.

– CNN's Robert Yoon and Adam Levy contributed to this report.

Allen West has been defeated; let's get back to doing the work of the people that elected you to Congress. Stop this idea of trying to be contravercial like Allen West.

At the Edison Mall in Ft. Myers, I saw no Romney bumper stickers today. What a difference a few days makes. Maybe it wasn't true love after all.

Whoop whoop. Final will b 235-203. Gop has another thing coming if they think they hv a mandate. There would hv been a lot more dem pick ups if lines hadnt be so gerryrigged n 2010. Just goes 2 show every election is important, not just presidential.

Just think, if they had not made wholesale changes to the districts after the 2010 elections they, gop. would be in the minority in the house and the dems would probably have a super majority in the senate. By 2014 most of them, gop. Should be gone. GOOD RIDDIN. OBAMA/BIDEN 2012

If their arrogence keeps overshadowing their bigotted ignorence it'll be a democratic landslide and the party of "NO" will be political history. And better yet the Norquists pledge now in the process of going down in flames as well knowing if they don't get something done by 2014 that pledge will be nothing but worthless paper because they'll have no one to honor it for the wealthy elite..The writings on the wall republicans work across the aisle or go home the message can't be any plainer with most of your tea baggers in both houses being defeated this time and more in midterm if you don't help in making a better America, the choice is yours ,if you don't you'll know after midterms won't yah!!

No wonder Boner is being so nice, he see the American people voting for Dems coming 2014 and he fears his House majority will be gone. Now he is finally trying to do what the majority of americans want, "Raise taxes on the millionaires".

    @Pete

I am sitting back watching and waiting for 2014. I didn't vote in the 2010 mid term elections so I and others like me are partly to blame for the insidious cancer that now permeates our House of Reps. But the sane and rational are no longer as distracted as we were led to be with lies and dissent and we are paying attention now and rest assured we have our eyes on 2014. If this hot mess doesn't start turning around and these elected officials don't start doing what they are brining a paycheck and health care home for they are going to be voted out. Tuesday wasn't a fluke but a warning. Get busy or get kicked to the curb.

    Democrats,
Don't get too overconfident. In five of the battleground states, Obama's total margin of victory was less than 407,000 votes. Had the votes gone a fraction of a percent in the other direction you would all be screaming racism and would have already burnt down your own neighborhoods in the ensuing riots.

Sign of things to come. Arizona will turn into a blue state when the population becomes more diverse and young.

    Hey Rick in OP –

Bottom Line – Who won? Who increased seats both in the senate and the house??

Most Repubs pay attention to the bottom line. They are bottom line kind of people. What causes your denial?
