(CNN) – After millions flocked to superstores for mega-deals on Black Friday, President Barack Obama took part in the third annual Small Business Saturday by stopping at a bookstore near Washington.
The president and his two daughters - Sasha and Malia - departed the White House Saturday afternoon to One More Page Books, a shop in the Washington suburb of Arlington, Virginia.

With his Blackberry in hand, Obama appeared to be looking at a list as he spoke with the store’s owner, Eileen McGervey, according to pool reports.
"Preparation," the president said. "That's how I shop."
Obama gave the clerk a stack of titles, shook hands with employees and walked around the store.
Asked about the so-called fiscal cliff, with its looming budget slicing, by a pool reporter, the president said: "We're doing Christmas shopping…Happy Thanksgiving, folks."
As he came out of the bookstore, he walked up to supporters who were applauding and cheering along two ropelines.
“Aren’t you cold out here?” he asked.
The White House later reported that Obama bought 15 children's books meant to be offered as gifts to family for Christmas.
Last year, the Obamas shopped at a different book store - Kramerbooks & Afterwords Café in the District of Columbia -— on Small Business Saturday, a tradition started by American Express in 2010.
– CNN's Ashley Killough contributed to this report.
Happy Holidays to the First Family.
How would we know if G. W. Bush ever went Christmas shopping? He didn't live in the White House it was only a place he stopped on his way to Crawford, and between campaign trips..
Im so glad Obama is The President of the United States.. he makes me so proud. He's smart, funny, warm & caring, confident & competent. I rest easy knowing he's at the wheel driving this country forward.
The President tells us he supports small businesses but then he wants to raise taxes on these same small businesses. Once taxes are raised for anyone making $250K or above this small bookstore and others like it will have a hard time staying in business. Thank you Mr. President for nothing.
Jpeagal21...No, there were no stories of George Bush taking a trip to Barnes & Noble. He never went there. They don't have a good coloring book section.
Jpeagle21 if he walked in a store near you. Im sure you would be tweeting about it.
Wow! Obama went shopping. Black Friday sales are down, but Obama has money to go shopping. How much did he add to our debt to do that? The economy is fine, though, Everyone has tons of money to shop with. Merry Christmas!
Good choice Mr.President....
jpeagle21: I am sure if bush has done something good like this, cnn would have had a story about it but he is a republican so he didn't
President Obama is setting a good example of supporting your local small business. It keeps your neighbors employed.
He has a right to be like every other American.
I am just saying...
Good that he president's family buys books for Christmas.
Jpeagle21, did Bush ever take a trip to Barnes & Noble? I'm pretty sure that would have been big news to liberals, moderates, and even some conversatives nationwide. But the point of this article isn't that the President went to a giant chain bookstore like Barnes & Nobles. The point is the President went out on small business saturday and supported a small business. Nothing more, nothing less.
At least he has money to go Christmas shopping-not so for the 23 million his presidency has put out of work. Typical CNN coverage of Obama and Romney. Well if CNN's ratings get any lower Candy Crowley, in Obama's pocket along with the rest of the mainstream media can take a permanent vacation.
Shasha and Malia, read on....may you grow wise, gracious and even more delightful...
Nobody talks or writes about the important issues at hand but Obama goes and buys a book , that is news worthy.
You have become a dumbed down nation and your journalists should go back to school.
If that was george bush, it would have been a gun shop.
@jpeagle21, george bush NEVER went to a book store., yet alone Barnes and Noble.
Peace on Earth,,,Goodwill to (all) men,,,women too,,,even conservatives
Token appreciation for small business and he shrugs off what maylead to their doom... Happy cliff divng America.
The best way to grow as a nation is to support the reemerging and growth of small business. The job cannot be out sourced or the small local factory/industries cannot be shipped to anywhere else for pure profit. If we buy for a penny less than form wormart Wal-Mart substitute the people with machine and fires its workers. If working becomes impossible we cannot buy for penny less from Wal-Mart so buy small business and keep your job in America.
Mr. President and Family:
Merry Christmas and a Joyous New Year...Enjoy!!
He is a great president , great father and great husband.
And books can set you free !
Has anybody seen truth hurts ? I miss his negativity !
In response to jpeagle21 – considering your message guess you are a W supporter – if so do you realize you just stepped into a created an opportunity for a ridiculously easy joke on W by your comment – George W Bush never went into a book store
George Bush never went to a bookstore. lol
