Washington (CNN) - It helped get him re-elected, so President Barack Obama is again employing campaign-style tactics to increase pressure on congressional Republicans to compromise to avoid the so-called fiscal cliff.
Failure to reach a deal means tax increases and deep spending cuts take effect in five weeks, a scenario analysts fear could push the country back into recession.
Hey, go with what works until they can figure out how to stop it. The Tea Party painted themselves into a ideological corner last Xmas, and they seem all to eager to grab paint brush and go for it again.
Obama campaigned on letting the Bush tax cuts expire for people making over $250,000 a year. This means letting the top marginal rate go back to 39.6%, the way it was under Clinton. Romney wanted to keep all of the Bush tax cuts. Obama won and Romney lost. There is no need to re-litigate the issue. If Republicans wanted to re-litigate the issue, they will lose the next election too.
To suggest that we should, now that the election's over, stop talking to the American people about these vital issues is, I think, bad advice," Carney said.
The President should abasolutely continue to talk and involve the American people on this issue and others of great magnitude. It appears that is THE ONLY way that the American people get to hear a clear and honest assessment of what the hell is going on behind closed doors with the Republicans and in our government.
The Republicans had four years of going buck wild adhering to ridiculous pledges that had nothing whatsoever to do with what they were elected to do. Pledges that ultimately hurt our nation and her credit rating. Let the President get out there and do one of the things he does so well SPEAK LIKE E.F.HUTTON!! And let the people listen, learn, and decide what their next move or vote should be.
Lord knows that we cannot count on the press to present a cogent, factual and timely account of events lest they jeopardize their advertising revenue.
We did it y'alls way and that netted nothing but ignorance, fear, and division.
Let the President go out and tell the people what's going on, and what's at stake and let's see if the Republicans decide to play the same song they did last year.
I meant "If Republicans want to re-litigate the issue, they will lose the next election too."
It's all on the gop bafoons party and the subversive gop lobbyist rover nitwitquest of the Moslem brotherhood . The gop can stand with the gop slimball and go down in the next elections. The American voters detest norquest the crook gop lobbyist!!!!
That's how people know the factum valet....god bless this president.
PS: this dude needs strong security, period. USA needs him.
This is probably not a good time in history for Republicans to continue their foot stamping, thumb sucking, obstruction. We'll soon know whether or not they've yet to understand what actually happened on Nov. 6th, 2012 ... and why.
So why is the boy out there still campaigning? He won, didn't he? All he has to do is pick up his winninga and go home, doesn't he? So what's the problem?
Obama is not an executive. He only knows how to brain wash people, and spend money. That is the extent of his skills, so he turns the real mangement over to others, while he goes out to brain wash people.
Foot stumping by GOP idiots...
@ Rick McDaniel – have you ever heard of "delegating" ? ( what do u think CEO's do ? ) or any Owner of any Company or Corporation does )
The problem is GOP idiots and supporters therefor. @rick mcDaniels–listen 300 million can not be brainwashed. You are good at bashing democrats–I bet you have some mental issue and ocular issue. See good doctors or better PAs in your area.
It's laugable that Republicans STILL don't know what happened two weeks ago and why they lost. They have analyazed, imploded, had their heads spinning from self-exorcisms and still are cluess and yet We The People know exactly what happened. Should we let them in on the secret all the brain trusts on the Right can't seem to grasp? Okay. Psst...GOP...you lost because the real patriots of this country, the people you treated like crap on your shoe, the people who truly do love this country, what it stands for the the light of hope, opportunity and freedom it allows WOKE UP. Yep. That's all it was folks. We are no longer asleep at the wheel and once we realized we had the power all along to change the game (a power we had been tricked into believing we no longer had which left us powerless) and we used it. That is why people stood hours on end to vote. That is why those discarded and discounted Americans never deemed worthy to be considered any threat to the GOP's raid on the Presidency were able to crush that notion and turn the Republicans and their lies on its ear. We remembered who our government works for and what we are due by the hefty taxes we pay out of our hard earned money for that to be so. If the GOP don't think we can't get rid of them in the next decade by the collective power of the regular people think again. We just shut you out of your dream...the Presidency of the USA. Next up...reclaiming the House gerrymandering be damned. Keep it up and we will show you again what we the people are truly capable of. I suggest you get to work or get ready to be gone.
Campaigning for more spending and higher taxes is what he does best it is not a plan. If this is where we are going and he refuses to settle in now that he has won and do his job then we are in trouble. He has the media pals to pressure the GOP. Its time Obama proposes some solutions and negotiate a deal so there is some confidence in businesses to start spending money and hiring.
