(CNN) - In the final race deemed too close to call, Republican David Rouzer conceded Wednesday after a recount in the race for North Carolina's 7th Congressional District showed incumbent Rep. Mike McIntyre won by a razor-thin margin.
"Now that the recount has been completed and the tally of votes is official, we can move forward satisfied that each vote was counted properly and accurately," Rouzer said in a statement.

"I have called Congressman McIntyre to congratulate him on a hard-fought victory, and I wish him well as he joins a new Congress that will be dealing with very difficult issues facing our country," Rouzer continued.
Last week, Rouzer called for a recount after the original margin fell below one percent. He also cited a voting machine "irregularity" in Bladen County as a reason for his recount request. The state began the recount process on Monday and finished Wednesday.
Despite facing a newly-drawn district that appeared to have been created to end his career, McIntyre showed strong signs of life in the race and ran a competitive race in the district that skews heavily Republican. He led in fundraising over Rouzer, a state senator, and kept even with ad spending by pro-Republican outside groups and the national Republican Party. Rouzer, however, stayed off the airwaves.
The contest was considered the final unresolved House race from Election Day that could make a difference in the makeup of the 113th Congress. (Another unresolved race in Louisiana will go to a runoff on December 8, but the contest is between two Republicans, guaranteeing a win for the GOP.)
McIntyre's victory gives Democrats a net gain of eight House seats from the November election, and the next Congress will consist of 234 Republicans and 201 Democrats.
– CNN's Ashley Killough, Robert Yoon and Allison Brennan contributed to this report.
Another one bites the dust! I'm just saying.
A net gain of eight seats for the Dems, this one in a heavily GOP district. I'd call it a good start toward taking back the House in 2014, and those eight probably reduce the number of GOP defectors needed to pass a revenue raising/spending reduction plan acceptable to the Dems.
Just because the votes were counted again doesn't mean it was any more accurate than the first time.
And in two years when the midterm elections happen the Democrats will close the gap even more. Americans are sick and tired of the obstructionists within the House and want action not a freaking stalemate.
Great job well done. Now help us Rep. Mike McIntyre won by a razor-thin margin. 47%er
Hmm . . .Which political party has an unnatural desire for redrawing congressional districts????
Republicans gerrymandered the districts after the 2010 elections, or the House would be Democratic.
If the GOP get in the way of a balanced budget, let's take them out in 2014. We have enough dead weights.
What a mauling the GOP took. Its time they realized that this country have no tolerance for haters.
Now we just need a net gain of 17 House seats.
Thanks, Voters: The Tea Party is finally over.
Shucks 200/ 235 my forecast and lost in a happy way 201 234. Republicans Ru listening despite your gerry mandering you lost. this time around Popularity at the voter count level Electoral, Presidential House and Senate you suck!!
Then you still claim you have mandate cause you have one part of the checks and balances. The process is advise and consent. ( Not dictate based on pure ideology or stupid pledges)
That means that you Republicans need to talk to democrats just as much as you insist they must talk to you. it also always will mean some compromise from both sides to agree and you cannot ignore the presidential leadership that says Taxes must go up on the rich and undermining PPACA or repeal is not part of cost cuts and both will be veteod . Thats enough LEADERSHIP FROM OUR PRESIDENT.. He is not legislator in chief and required to give every bit of detailed legislation demanded that in our system starts in the house, and presenting one sided bills you knew would be rejected borders on criminal neglect of the nations needs at this time.
33 short of an even house
Awwwwww, poor GOP losers.
he should have to pay for the re count not the tax payers
The path towards taking another 17 Republican held House seats [and flipping the Houemust be based on ase Democratic] campaign not against any particular person but rather against the party. The Democrats must run ads NOW defining "what it means to be a Republican" using the centrist themes and GOALS that most voters expect from the Congressmen. The GOP`s actual candidates are sure to violate those guidelines or will be moderate enough to work with Democrats & move the country forward. Attack the collective GOP behavior, not an individual, and do it EARLY.
It's amazing what the rethugs will do to get votes. Redistricting, billboards, changing ID rules for voting.
We need to wake up as a Nation regarding our voting rights and stop the rethugs from changing the rules. This is the ONE right we all have regardless of race, creed or being the 98% vs the 2%.
I'm glad we Democrats did so well this election...but it seems the GOP does not understand that they lost. I guess we will have to beat them again in 2014 to try to get the message across...
It's hard when you believe your own lies, republicans...
I live in Brunswick County, NC part of this congressional district and can say that Mr. Rouzer did not stay off the "airwaves". Assuming that means TV adds, I can say without fear of contradiction that more ads were aired by/for him than his opponent. Suggest that the writer of this article get his facts straight for any future articles about this race.
People need to understand what's happened here. The last census was performed in 2010. The Republicans also happened to win lots of legislative seats in 2010, in both the federal, and state governments. They used that power to redraw the boundaries of Congressional districts (which normally happens after a census), to group neighborhoods so that the GOP would win more seats.
For example, if the total vote over 3 districts is split 50/50, but the Republicans can win two equally-sized districts by 5%, and then lose the third district to the Democrats by 10%, they've still won 2/3 of the seats.
Despite the Democratic House candidates getting more than 500,000 more votes than GOP candidates this election, the GOP won 234 seats, compared to 201 for the Democrats.
That is a sick perversion of democracy.
It's bad enough that we got a President in 2000 would didn't get the most votes. Now, control of the House has been given to the party with the fewest votes.
Before we both "spreading" democracy to the middle east, we need to take back democracy in this country from the Republican party, who has made a mockery of it here recently (Bush v. Gore, 2012 House races, filibuster, etc.)
Anybody think CNN might have reported the vote totals or margin of victory?
"Despite facing a newly-drawn district that appeared to have been created to end his career..." The cheaters can't even win at cheating!
That means them the dems only need 24 reasonable Republicans to keep us from going over the cliff. This is getting sweet.
