Obama wants DNC chair to stay on the job

Washington (CNN) – Two senior Democratic Party officials tell CNN that President Barack Obama will ask Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida to stay on for a second term as chair of the Democratic National Committee.

The DNC meets in Washington, D.C. on January 22, the day after the president's second inauguration, for its annual winter meetings. The top thing on the agenda at the gathering is to vote on the chair and other party officials for the next two years.

Wasserman Schultz replaced former Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine as DNC chair in the spring of 2011, after Kaine stepped down to run for the U.S. Senate.

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued a statement describing Wasserman Schultz as a "dynamic leader and a strong voice for the Democratic Party and Democratic candidates."

"Her hard work, dedication, persistence, and commitment to the Democratic cause yielded positive results for President Obama and congressional Democrats in 2012, and we look forward to working with her to build on our gains and expand the reach of our party in the years to come," she wrote.

Politico first reported that Obama will ask Wasserman Schultz to stay at the DNC.

Update 4:04 p.m. ET: Obama tweeted about his decision later Monday, and she tweeted back.

Why is it that the haters love the word "liar"??? They use it at the drop of a hat....must be a comfort word for them in a world not conforming to their narrow view!!!

I don't like her...I think she embarrassed the Democratic Party on several occasions by flat out misrepresenting or distorting remarks that Romney made. We all know that 90% of the Romney campaign were lies, lies, and more lies, but when the DNC chair tries to distort the sad 10% that was accurate, it makes the Dems look as bad as the Grand Ole Liars.

Wasserman is tuff and has earned respect because of having values and consistency and a determined purpose to better our public policies! Good job and working for your pay deserves recognition....I know this is contrary to a tea bag point of view....less is always better to them for some twisted reason!

The republicans just can't stand the fact that they lost big time in this election. They actually believed Romney was their guy to take the W/H and control the U.S. and it's future. The republican party will not be in-charge again for many years to come because of the way they displayed themselfs for the last 14 years. Their was too much dammage done to the country and they are on the hook for it. Now they have to pay the price for GREED.

Here's what Barry needs to do:

Move Joe to Sec. of State, since Hillary wants to leave.

Movie Debbie to VP (Surely that would be legal)

Then in 2016, Debbie kicks butt as the Dem Prez nominee.

And she could even have Joe as VP for 4 more years.

    Take that, righties.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz certainly does represent what the Democratic Party stands for and the means by which they achieve their ends. Probably the sleaziest, nastiest campaign run by Democrats in my memory. The untruths, the innuendo, the manipulation of issues away from substance into racial polarization, a man that equates voting with "retaliating" kinda seems far away from dealing with issues and discussing plans on how to bind a fractured nation back together. So, although I'm not certain what the Democratic agenda is, I'm not entirely convinced that it will be what America needs nor will Debby Wasserman Schultz be yje kind of uniting, healing force that Democrats should be acting as for the good of the American People.

I can honestly say that she is waaaay more knowledgeable than Howard Dean ever was, or is. I'm not taking anything away from Dean, but this gal has got some spunk, not to mention that she's a fighter and is up to date in just about every political subject there is – I mean she knows exactly what's going on – and she expresses her opinions on it – and Knows what to do – to counter some type of re-action if the republicans tries to pass something that hurts the middle class voters .In my opinion, I hope she Stays IN – for as long as she wants -

Comments such as WatrGrrl – "be yje kind of uniting, healing force that Democrats should be" reflect the reason we need leaders like Rep. Wasserman Schultz.

When republicans are in power, they always think they have a mandate. Their attitude: "There is only one way, and it's our way."

Then when the Dems are in power, we are supposed to have government that is uniting, & bipartisan (repub-speak for 'give us our way and we MIGHT work with you (remember Health Care Reform)).

This Country has been taken to the right, and failed economically in the process, during the 8 years of the Bush Presidency. Our rights were taken away in the name of national security. Our morals as a country were weakened by a government that sanctioned torture and imprisonment without trial. Freedom-loving Democrats are fed up with these anti-American policies, pushed on us by the republicans.

That is why we need strong, smart leaders like Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

Insert ' Reince Priebus" for Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and Republican for Democrat, and you have the sentiments of more than half the country. The GOP has done more to fracture this country in the last 4 years than I ever thought was humanly possible, and the racial polarization was seen in the horribly racist emails that some GOPers with a conscience leaked to the media; the "47%" remarks Romney made to his donors, as well as the blatantly racist comments made by GOP activists during the debate over Arizona's illegal immgration laws: it will be a long time before the GOP shakes the horrible reputation it has created for itself, and all in the name of appealing to the fears of a shrinking portion of the electorate. All the work and outreach to minorities, women, students, gays and the elderly GW Bush tried was thrown out the window.

I read these comments and I can't help feeling that whoever you are that blindly support Obama that you really scare me. We won the election so you republicans get out of the way because you are dirt. We will tax the wealthly to death because those evil rich must be all republicans ( of course this idea doesn't include all the evil rich dem senators or representatives cause they care about the middle class). You act as if 50% of your fellow Americans are trash! Nothing I write here will change your minds. As an history student I have seen this before: Communists Russia, Nazi Germany, Cuba and other countries. It all sounds so great until you wake up and find your liberty and freedom are gone. Lucky for you the 50% you call trash will still fight on to protect you from that happening. I suggest you read the history of Agentina and see if you see any simularities between them and us.

@WatrGrll – it's ironic and sad that the very ideals you set for Dem's are completely ignored by your own side. This last four years has seen nothing but divisiveness, fragmented polarization of the nation by the do nothing Teapugs in Congress. Yet, the right wing insists that the same has been perpetrated by the left.
As an independent voter, the Repuglican party has lost my vote for a long time. Unlike many, I did not suddenly wake up in August and start to evaluate the candidates based on what I heard on Fox or MSNBC. I started a number of years ago, and what I saw from the GOP exactly primaries was deceit, lousy candidates and blocking of any legitimate candidate. The loudest dirtiest well-funded campaign won out and the sheeple simply lined up behind the choice, even tho' the GOP didn't like the choice!
The GOP has not been the Party of Reagan for some years now, and the current leadership (RNC, House, Senate) just doesn't get why they were shellacked. It's comments like yours about his article, coupled with the hatred by a bunch of old white wealthy guys for the black dude in the white house that cost the Repugs the election.

The GOP alienated EVERY major group in the US. They are completely out of touch... as is evidence by the usual lack of intelligence displayed, and terms thrown about by the losers... socialists, liars, etc.

I hope Debbie is a thorn is the side of the red state sheeple....

Of course. She's as bad a liar as Obama is.
    ================================================================================================
The fact checkers proved Romney and Lyin' Ryan to be the biggest liars in the history of politics. Neither could make a statement that wasn't a complete distortion or a bold-faced lie. Even when they were exposed as liars they would keep repeating the dishonest statement. Your attacks are simply a product of the Fox News hate machine and that mentality contributed greatly to the demise of the Republican Party.

It makes no difference who the democrats select. Debbie Wasserman Schultz is a perfect example of the Democrat Party. Liberal, Power Hungry, bigger and bigger Federal Government.Socalist.

P.S. This is an example of why the country is in such dior straits. The Democrats had the Congress for 40 years. Today you see the results. Still some of you stick your head in the sand. So be it.
