GOP aide: No behind-the-scenes fiscal cliff talks happening

Washington (CNN) – There are currently no behind-the-scenes talks or private communication between negotiators looking to reach a deal on avoiding the fiscal cliff, a senior Republican aide said Tuesday.

"No conversations today – no emails, tweets, carrier pigeons," the aide said. "The White House is making no effort to find a compromise to avert the fiscal cliff. We are ready to talk whenever they are ready to get serious."

While high stakes negotiations often involve private talks taking place amid public bluster, this aide said what is playing out in public is the only thing playing out at all.

Pressed on the status of negotiations Tuesday, President Barack Obama's press secretary Jay Carney avoided saying specifically whether talks were continuing between the White House and representatives of House Speaker John Boehner.

"We do not schedule meetings through the press. We do not negotiate through the press," Carney said, saying he could "guarantee that conversations continue on different levels, among different groups."

"Whether there are emails being exchanged at this moment, I can't say, but broadly speaking there are conversations taking place," Carney said. He also pointed to Monday night's White House holiday party for members of Congress, during which he said Obama met with "scores" of lawmakers.

"It's inconceivable to me that nobody mentioned the fiscal cliff," Carney concluded.

One lawmaker Obama didn't converse with Monday was Boehner - multiple Democratic and Republican sources said the two didn't see or speak to each other during the black-tie event.

He's obviously not seen the polls that show that Republicans are going to take it in the shorts if the fiscal cliff isn't avoided. Democrats know this and are holding steady on raising taxes on the the 2%. You don't have to be in Congress to tell where this is headed. One thing puzzles me however. If the Republicans are hell bent on getting the White House back, why are they doing everything they can to prevent it. 60 to 70% of Americans believe that taxes have to go up and you don't have to be a math wiz to know you can't win with just 30% of the vote.

As if the GOP has been serious about anything except the 2%, their own religious beliefs and getting everyone to think and believe as they do.

Unlike the GOP which can't seem to get enough of the press ... yes, Dana Bash? What with all the days off GOP operatives get - and the free press time - who in the GOP has the time to sit down and actually negotiate for the betterment of America?

Just mug for the camera, throw out a few lies about the other side and, voila, mission accomplished ... GOP style. Heck, it worked up until November 6th. Boehner's hoping November 6th was nothing more than an anomaly. Heck, he's betting his House it was a anomaly ... all polls suggesting otherwise be damned. Again.

Obama has intention of any kind of compromise....he's still doing warfare for political gain and the welfare of the country is immaterial.

"We are ready to talk whenever they are ready to get serious." – Oh, give it a break. Negotiation doesn't mean standing on your side of the line and accusing the other side of not being serious. That's behavior we'd expect to see out of junior high kids. GOP, please grow up.

Boehner, if you do not have taxes for the 2% on the table, then you are the one that need to "get serious.". We told President Obama what we wanted on Nov 6th.

I hope the Republicans vote present on Obama's plan and make the Libs finally take responsibility. The media can deal with the angry mobs when The Amateur's not-so-bright economic plans hit the fan.

Unfortuntaly the policies of the Liberals over the last 75 years have been a glaring failure. But they are still trying to sell you more snake oil. But the Libs want you to pass the deal and cut your own throat. We know what's best for you, just agree. It's amazing how many here still believe that liberal lie. The results will be the same no matter what decesion prevails. It is you who are going to pay the bill.

Problem: Farmer wants to grow a field of crops.

Liberal Solution: Buy some seeds, plant them. Buy fertilizer and weed killer as needed, use it as required. Watch your crops grow.

Conservtive Solution: Sell any seeds on hand for a quick profit, but do nothing to the field, and watch all of the weeds grow.

Why did Nasa spread rumors of the end of the world, then have the gall to hide behind the media. Why not tell the truth, on the Nasa channel in America? The end of the white lies will be discovered by all. Priests run this evil world, those who ignored, *Hosea 4:6* need a new heart to the see the grace and truth in (Hebrews 7:14) Culture is dead, heritage is alive. Salvation is Jacob sons and Joseph who owns Reuben's birthrights, no one else will be saved in our time, because the hour is pushed back, to follow the sunlight. God is light.

It was all good, escept for the last 6 of those years. That's when the Republicans finally grabbed control of both chambers of Congress, and the White House. It marked the first time they found themselves in that position since the onset of The Great Depression.

And what did Republicans do during that final six year span? I dunno. All I know is that the economy totally tanked again, but this time they called it The Great Recession.

Do not be ignorant of Satan devices, I phone, I pad, all the free games to be downloaded. If the internet shuts down the world is over. Networks will be confounded. God is the I, and who is the body? Joseph took the body of Christ. The indignation of the world is taking it's place in Syria right now (Isaiah10:5). Then mystery Babylon will be fully revealed and fall.

Why is it against the law to ask questions? No man dares to ask any questions. What happens when one sees a question mark in the Bible? They ignored it, see the red it is everywhere round about. *Matthew 22:45 If David then call him Lord, how is he his son? (1st Samuel 18:18)

The GOP needs to do some serious thinking about the state of the party. This stonewalling on the fiscal crisis is just another example of the lack of cooperation on their part. Speaker Boehner made ridiculous proposal which was discusses last spring. Quoting Erskine Bowles Democrat, instead of Sen. Simpson and then pushing Bowles agenda. What was he thinking. The media is hot on his trail and will continue to tell why these ideas will not work.
