Romney campaign did not expect Obama's turn-out-the-vote results

Washington (CNN) – As voters headed to the polls on Election Day, several of Mitt Romney's senior campaign aides said, they truly thought he was going to win the presidency and retake the White House Republicans lost four years earlier.

"I was cautiously optimistic," Romney pollster Neil Newhouse said.

Bottom line ... TeamRomney thought that voter suppression would keep folks home. Guess that was one of many very big "oops" moments ... yes, GOPers?

They continue to attempt to suppress the vote. Wisconsin, Florida the Republican governors need to learn the more you try to take something from someone the more they hold on.

How long will we have to hear these stories of the one that got away? Sounds like they had a fool-proof plan to steal the election. The reason why prejudging people is wrong is because it's based on ignorance instead of true knowledge. Gop figured us minorites would stay home and not vote. Didnt also figure their base would do the same. Proven wrong on both accounts. Now at this point doesnt matter Mr Obama won and their guy lost. Stop beating a dead horse get on with present day business at hand the fiscal cliff. 2016 will be determined by what congress does now. If the gop continues to fight hard for the 1 percent at the expense of the poor and middle classes the same results will happen.

I guess the pretender plutocrat-in-chief didn't think the commoners were going to vote. Thanks for playing Mr. Romney.

  6. Facts Don't Lie

Practically every dirty trick the GOP tried to win the election did not work in 2012.. Suppressing the vote you know the ID laws that the SOS of Penn claimed would win the election for Romney FAILED......the SOS of Ohio did everything he could to cut voters hours, poll times and still voters came out and Obama won Ohio...same thing in Florida. Mitt tried telling falsehoods to voters like the "Jeeps moving to China" lie, "the welare lie", "the medicare lie" all proven by factcheckers to be untrue and that didn't work. He stuck Donald Trump and John Sununnu out there to use the "he's not one of us" fear tactic and that failed as well. We won't even get into the money spent by Rove and the Koch Brothers et al.. There is an old saying amonst those of us who are somewhat religious and it is "God don't like ugly" and if nothing else this 2012 election proved just that.

Instead, Barack Obama garnered 51% of the popular vote and 332 electoral votes to 206 and approximately 48% of the popular vote for his opponent
    -------------------------------------------------
    Romney got WHOMPED!
Why are they STILL talking about this as if some sort of Bush-like recount was underway?
Don't they realize that the President made history, AGAIN, by garnering mroe than 3% of the popular vote than Romney.
And please let us not recall the moment when the map starting going BLUE never to go back to RED again.....or perhaps we can and should relive that glorious moment in time.

It was game plan of Obamato grant illegal immigrants ages 17-30, brought here at age 5 who attend school or millitary service to recieve 2 year green card and most states allowed them to get driver licenses and photo IDs. This measure allowed them to VOTE. Heavy voting included single women, african americans and 18 to 30 year old.Republicans need to be pro active with immigration laws and social agenda. Go after the other candidates faults like the Democrats do.

That's because the senior aides watch Fox "news" and were misled along with millions of citizens. All of the non faux news watchers believed the Presidents policies were working. Fox is the one biggest problem with this country. Too many believe they are watching "the news" and don't realize they are listening to one persons one sided opinion. The problem here is you cannot convince a Fox "news" watcher that they are being misled. Just like you can't convince them there is no magic ghost, somewhere "up there" guiding everyones daily movements. There is no hope.

with even the message sent by the GOP, how could they have won, even today in dealing with the budget talks, the GOP will lose big in the midterm elections, the gop need to remove the cotton from their ears, or pull their heads from the sand

The Romney campaign was blind to facts and ignorant of the truth. They played to the fringe right wing and thought they were entitled to the WH. They never proved they earned the position – instead they play the "anti-everything Obama" playbook which proved to be their downfall. I am very happy with the election and I hope the GOP learns something from this.

We thought that we had the potential to tilt the partisan electorate a couple points in our direction," Newhouse said.
    -------------------------------------------------
    He-he!
Well let's just say that you cretainly thought you had the "money" to "tilt" the truth and what you thought was a partisan DUMB, AMNESIAC, and ridiculously TOLERANT of your shenanigans electorate. As it turns out, praise be to God, there wasn't enough money in your coffers to whitewash what you were trying to do and make appealing what you were trying to sell us.
Did I already say praise be to God?

Memo to GOP: Stop the Delusion Olympics. The majority of Americans don't like what you are selling (as well as the way that you try to sell it). Deal with it.

What a super sized ego! The candidate was a lying loser and fraud!!! Wow!!!
They were surprised that voter suppression and lies about the date of the election and, worse for them, all that $$$$$$ didn't buy the election. The 47+ 4% showed these rethugs that Americans are smarter than they makes out to be.
That is why round boy rove was having a stroke on live TV about Ohio!! The twit needs to go away. Cayman islands are really nice and warm this time of the year.

Blame it on the danger of living in the Fox bubble. Fox News is misleading Republicans. The lesson is don’t believe what you hear on the Fox news it is not mean to be factually correct (to paraphrase one wise Republican senator speaking from the senate floor)

Repugs had 4 years to "make Obama a one term President" as Mitch McDonnell and Rush Limbaugh said on day one. Lesson #1: Never challenge the American people who have voting rights; Lesson #2: Never try to buy an election; Lesson #3: Never have a candidate who believes and says he/she doesn't care about 48% of us; Lesson #4: Never allow people like John Sununu, Trump, Gingrich, Rove, Norquist and others take center stage; Lesson #5: Stop the war on women as if we're some kind of predator; Lesson #6: Stop using tokens; Lesson #7: Too many old white men who are just plain hateful; Lesson #8: Stop joining John McCain in his "shadow boxing matches", he lost it's over; Lesson #9: Never challenge young people who are open for change; Lesson #10: Fox News media is your worst enemy. There are many, many reasons Repugs lost and there is no apparent change, same on same on.

America got wise to voter suppression tactics but now need to focus on the gerrymandering that's been accomplished to ensure Republican majorities in places like Texas. Just google the Texas political map and you'll see how dishonest the Republican Party can be in efforts to suppress the power of the poor and minority population – a growing force in Texas.

I hate to say this BUT Romney campaign proved how stupid they were. How could they run a campaign in this modern age of new tech, the way it was in the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s? They might have been out of their mind and didn't know how to win. We all harvest what we plant.

I seem to recall that Obama got fewer votes in 2012 than in 2008. romney's problem was that fewer voters supported him than mccain. Must feel bad to be more of a looser than mccain.

Or maybe, it's that more voters were repulsed by paul ryan than by sarah palin.

Marie MD- Obama spent more than Romney...yes $$$$ do count. Romney told NO lies, but Obama spent $200 million telling lies about Romney. Holder blocked most attempts to keep dead people, illegals, and folks with false IDs from voting, but voter IDs are legal in 19 states and the Supreme Court validated them. When 47 Million people are on food stamps and the administration running ads to encourage more to apply, that is a pretty large base for Obama to work from..
