Economy adds 146,000 jobs in November, unemployment drops to 7.7%

(CNN) - Modest hiring continued in November and the unemployment rate fell to its lowest level in nearly four years, according to a report released Friday.

The U.S. economy added 146,000 jobs in November, and the unemployment rate fell to 7.7% from 7.9% in October, the Labor Department said. That's the lowest unemployment rate since December 2008.

No story? Just a byline? Aren't job numbers important anymore? No election coming up, I guess. Good news by itself is boring, I guess.

Much better than expected, from what I was hearing. More wind in the sails for the Obama economics team. Maybe Boehner could get a different job, too.

to DD, you might want to give CNN a few minutes to actually wright the story? They posted the results as soon as they got them – I'm sure a story is following. Also, let's not forget the jobs that ARE available are not the higher paying jobs we really want – we can't lose sight of the fact we need to bring better paying jobs to the US too. If we can dissolve the gridlock in Washington and get an 'infrastructure" jobs program passed, this will fail to be a problem.

The reality is, these are seasonal jobs and will go away after the hollidays, so I would not get too excited about it.

this is very bad news for the FoxNews crowd and other right wingers that had hoped for the numbers I heard earlier that the number would be around 77,000 and the UE rate would have went back over 8%. Priebus and the three on the FoxNews couch were ready to POUNCE so they could say the earlier numbers were skewed to help Obama and this proves it. Well sorry guys the economy is still going forward rather you want it to or not. Oh but wait a minute..I know what the Rick McDaniels of the world will cry out...SEASONAL HIRING!! just wait for it.

I am curious, its nice to see jobs increased, but I wonder how many of these jobs are seasonal?

IS the employment moving in the right direction. or is this temp Dutch, before you get all excited you need to look at reality.
What will the employment rate be in Jan if we go over the cliff, neither side wants to give an inch. I do not blame Republicans, Democrats or the President, I blame them all. You need to get past your hatred and childish views on parties, you need to see the big picture. Its not Republicans fault alone it takes two parties to disagree.

Well thank goodness the election is over. With unemployment now reaching GW numbers, no doubt Obama would have lost for sure and Mitt Romney would be giving us his unemployment doom and gloom speech.

Obama must be "cooking the books" for his 3rd term run. Unless Mitch McConnell stops him that is.

Of course what the article is not telling you, is that though 146k jobs might have been created, the actual reason the unemployment rate dropped is that 540K more people dropped out of the workforce. So disappointed in the reporting of the news these days.

Good news. We are accelerating on a required speed. Tax the rich and see how the economy will flourish.
Mr. President stay the course, we are in the right path.

    Lynda/Minnesota-

What???? You do realize that since FDR's time Presidents ARE limited to two terms, right? Or, is this the new Right-wing delusion? Mr. McConnell is no hero- he has attempted to stop everything (including OUR economic recovery) since Mr. Obama took office. He is hardly an honorable man.

Why won't the republicans get on board now and get this Country growing? It is clear that Obama's policies work, in spite of all the repubs have doe to block them and hold this Country back.

Let's see the breakdown, I bet most of these jobs are minimum wage – the 'new normal' for USA 2012 and beyond.

Now, if were to manufacture talking points like a conservative, I would credit the drop in unemployment to the "fact" that the job creators thought Mitt Romney was going to win the general election.

If a third of the jobs came from retailers, then hopefully consumer spending will increase substantially enough to keep most of those employees through Feb. Most will probably still be around for most of Jan to deal with post holiday sales and returns.
