(CNN) - Mitt Romney ended his political battle a month ago, but the former GOP presidential nominee took in a different kind of fight Saturday: a non-title bout in Las Vegas between boxers Juan Manuel Marquez and Manny Pacquiao.
Romney shook Pacquiao's hand before the fight, wishing him success in the match. Pacquiao himself is also a politician, serving as a congressman in his native Philippines. He has endorsed some American politicians, including Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Democrat.
According to a tweet from Greg Bishop, who covers boxing for the New York Times, Romney greeted Pacquiao in the locker room after the bout, telling the defeated fighter: "Hello Manny. I ran for president. I lost."
The fight came to an end 2:59 into the sixth round, after Marquez landed a right hand to Pacquiao's face, knocking him cold late Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Pacquiao went down face-first and lay motionless for a while, possibly unconscious, before eventually sitting up. It was called a technical knockout and Marquez declared the winner.
Pacquiao shook Marquez' hand.
The fight was originally scheduled for 12 rounds. Both fighters scored knock-downs earlier in the fight with Marquez putting Pacquiao on his back and Pacquiao tipping Marquez enough off of his feet to cause one of his gloves to touch the mat.
CNN's Ben Brumfield and Jill Martin contributed to this report.

Governor Romney, we are not hostile of you. We love you. The principles of GOP did not work and will never work. Just enjoy the life. Do some thing good to this nation. Nevertheless the fact I am not born here–I love and strive for USA–you can do the same. Nothing we brought here–nothing we take. Have a very bright Christmas to you and your family. Happy new year.
Compared to the last presidential campaign a pro boxing match is positively tranquil.
He lost because Romney was there.
Romney the bully at a bullying sport, how nice ,how hypocritical..As a presidencial nominee he wanted defense spending increased but he like all his family run from war with no one in his family ever serving but advocating wars in Vietnam and other conflicts..He ran to France to escape the draft but was seen in France picketing for the war to continue not stop, how ignorent !!Quit publizing this arrogent elitist ,he's through politically and like Palin should be put out of the limelight, enough said!!
OMG, who can possibly care!? The Bad dream represented by Romney and his ilk need to fade from our collective memory.
I remember that serviceman saying when he was at a fundraiser, Romney would come up to him and shake his hand every 20 minutes. I guess nothing's changed. I see losing's rubbed off onto Pacquaio.
People beating each other to a pulp for profit, in front of an audience, one of whom was almost the leader of the free world. Humans Are Weird!
ps, one of whom was almost the leader of the free world AND is very religious! What would Jesus Do? Heck, what would Muhammad Do?
"Romney greeted Pacquiao in the locker room after the bout, telling the defeated fighter: "Hello Manny. I ran for president. I lost."
Romney should have said "I ran for president...twice. I lost...both times." (2008 & 2012)
I guess Romney shaking your hand is the 'kiss of death'!
Never come across a big loser like Romney. He has to light a lot of candles to let the bad luck go away. If he doesn't, it will take long time to go!
Romney a true and sports gladiator..defeat is nothing..its the part of the game..erik from riyadh KSA
Interesting he would even be interested in professional boxing. I find a sport dedicated to watching minorities pound themselves into trauma-induced Parkinson's disease somewhat offensive. Why not just use axes or swords? The rich would certainly pay to see that spectacle and the costs for long-term healthcare would be reduced.
I didn't know Ann was such a boxing fan .
Why did all five of Mitts sons avoid voluntary military service in times of war ?
Once again the Romney's look out of place with who they really are .
Romney is still......THE WORST REPUBLICAN ON THE PLANET.....always was, always will be
So now everytime someone sees Romney, CNN will blast out an alert? Has he replaced Palin? Who cares, in reality? There are more important things than chasing after losers and has-beens. Why not lift up the people who are really doing something to make this country better and talk about them?
Queen Ann STILL hasn't With all that money, she should look like a millionaire instead of an overworked waitress at the end of a bad rush hour.
Why are we not surprised, the guy loves confrontation even at the Base level which boxing is.
That's the last place I would have thought they would make an appearance. Ann does not look like a happy lady. I think she had one more dream to accomplish and it didn't happen. Well Ann, that's how life goes sometimes... We don't get everything we wish just because we have money....
Is it really necessary to show up to a sporting event dressed like your doing a presidential debate? Loosen up Mit!
So, with his great concern for America – will he now spend his time, money and energy working to fix some of the problems in this country? will Romney contribute to the solution now that he is not getting to be president? or will he abandon any effort to work for the public good because there is nothing in it for him?
So, he rejoined the board at Marriott and he goes to a fight to relax.
Yeah, that sounds like he is fighting for the middle class and poor.
he does look like Presidential timber...both him and Ann are great Americans!
People need to get over their envy of financial well off people. Most posts here seem to have bought into the class warfare nonsense. Got news for you the country is worse off because the current administration is trying to make everybody poor. Government takes big share, wastes it and then you guys think rich people did it to you. What a laugh!
"Hello Manny. I ran for president. I lost."
It still gauls him...he can't get past it. And for those who say...'he was only joking', well many a truth is said in jest.
America made a HUGE mistake electing a college radical, community organizer as President–someone who has never created a job, started a business, never had to make payroll, someone who never served in armed forces, someone who says he represents the poor and lives a wealthy lifestyle more luxurious than Donald Trump.
Mitt, sorry the USA let you down. You balanced budgets, cut wasteful programs, created jobs. Now America must suffer long-term with unsustainable debt.
