Romney spotted ringside at Marquez-Pacquiao fight

(CNN) - Mitt Romney ended his political battle a month ago, but the former GOP presidential nominee took in a different kind of fight Saturday: a non-title bout in Las Vegas between boxers Juan Manuel Marquez and Manny Pacquiao.

Romney shook Pacquiao's hand before the fight, wishing him success in the match. Pacquiao himself is also a politician, serving as a congressman in his native Philippines. He has endorsed some American politicians, including Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Democrat.

According to a tweet from Greg Bishop, who covers boxing for the New York Times, Romney greeted Pacquiao in the locker room after the bout, telling the defeated fighter: "Hello Manny. I ran for president. I lost."

The fight came to an end 2:59 into the sixth round, after Marquez landed a right hand to Pacquiao's face, knocking him cold late Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Pacquiao went down face-first and lay motionless for a while, possibly unconscious, before eventually sitting up. It was called a technical knockout and Marquez declared the winner.

Pacquiao shook Marquez' hand.

The fight was originally scheduled for 12 rounds. Both fighters scored knock-downs earlier in the fight with Marquez putting Pacquiao on his back and Pacquiao tipping Marquez enough off of his feet to cause one of his gloves to touch the mat.

CNN's Ben Brumfield and Jill Martin contributed to this report.

Must want people to think that he is a real man. Remember when Bush Sr., in attempt to appear manly, was photographed in a leather flight jacket? Remember when his fruit was photographed in the flight suit aboard an aircraft carrier with the $750,000.00 banner (supplied by Halliburton) which read "Mission Accomplished? Bunch of dips.

Wears a jacket and tie to a boxing match, and he was surprised he lost the election.

See, if Mitt had done these things over the last year, go to a fight, go a a basketball game, take the transit system in Boston,
serve at a food bank, then he would've been in better touch with the middle class. I'm not surprised he lost. When he ran against ted Kennedy 15 years ago, he lost because he insulted the Irish and other imigrants in he City calling a section of town "Ted Kennedy Country". I also blame his advisors- they should've done a better job but then again, you have to be in touch with people t understand their struggles.

Romney looks terrible! I guess a car elevator is not enough to make up for the thumping he took.

Even watching a fight, Romney has that same stupid practiced half-smile on his face. The man is a robot.

  16. Republicans are close minded hipochrites...nothing more!

@bribarian. Hummm, funny! I thought that has always been the republican's way of life. Blame somebody else for your own failures. At least Paquiao served as an example by admitting he was too over confident. Get a clue.

Gawd, I thought I would never had to look at the creepy weird look ever again. What is he trying to prove? i don't see him and the non working wife attending fights!
@bribrian – your party is the one taking the country over the cliff and drowning it in hate.

LOL @ the dems that think they actually "won" something when Obama was given a second term.

Come Jan. 1st will see how much we all "won".

I know Romeny (mittens) was bad too. The correct choice this election was "None of the above".

I wouldn't consider Mitt Romney , GW Bush and "Joe" McCarthy as being a funny bunch of bash and blame liberals .

He picked the loser again. And here are the rest of the losers to explain in their own words why their party is failing: " Truth is liberalism can't stand on its own two feet, it always needs someone to bash and blame." Want some cheese with that whine? Sounds kinda like you are bashing and blaming someone. You ought to get that brain of yours looked at.

Good to see him at the fight, whatever his motivations. Like someone above said, if his PR team would've encouraged him to do this last year, he may have won over a few people. I don't like the guy (as a politician, I obviously don't know him personally) – and voted for Obama, but a taste of the real world may help him a little. His poor wife looks horrified! On another note – I hope Manny retires. Don't pull a Roberto Duran on us and be a shot fighter trying for past glory... let it go.
