Susan Rice withdraws from consideration as secretary of state

(CNN) - Susan Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations who drew heavy criticism from Republicans over her statements after the September attacks on a U.S. diplomatic mission, withdrew her name from consideration for secretary of state on Thursday.

In a letter to President Barack Obama, she said "the confirmation process would be lengthy, disruptive, and costly - to you and to our most pressing national and international priorities. That trade-off is simply not worth it to our country."

JV...you say:" I find it humerous that you republicans take any opportunity to insult anyone who isn't within your party". I Mean Really??? Sounds like the same thing the liberals do. Hmmmmm....pot meet kettle.

Why didn't you tell the world about the classified information? If she was a Republican they would be giving her an award!

Winner! The President can always play the "recess appointment" game while Congress is out of town. The vacation time they all take is absurd when the country faces such a disastrous fiscal situation.

Rice, you should realize that you are sacrified for your commander-in-cheap, who mislead American people for their political advance.

"She said her comments were based on declassified talking points, and sources within the intelligence community said the talking points were not modified by any other body, such as the White House. "

Should have been enough explanation... but not for the GOP – anything to block or disrupt.

Since we're all pretty certain that Sen. Kerry will be the nominee, that leaves his seat open. That was the purpose on demeaning Susan Rice over Benghazi. The GOP are hoping that Scott Brown can reclaim that seat. Good luck with that. I'd really love to see Barney Frank run for Senate. And if he's unavailable, my runner up will be............RACHEL MADDOW!!!

I am from Louisiana, an LSU fan, her alma mater, and love her home town, New Orleans, but why is she being sooo hateful, or upset, what was suppose to be in it for her. I understand her ideological thinking, but, TO NOT understand why 2 senators, WHO FOUGHT for this country, so she can voice her opinion, why they would have a concern.

Rice is no doubt qualified with respect to her experience at UN, degree from Harvard, great personality, and that she is a Rhode Scholar. But, it looks like she invited the trouble by getting into something that was not her responsibility, she is Ambassador to UN. It should be a lesson learned for everyone.

She's not S of S grade. Google her resume, pretty thin. Those thugs out there would push her around. Jefferson, Madison, Adams, Van Buren, Webster, Buchanan, Marshall, Kissinger, to name a few.

I do not understand why going to Ivy league and you automatically become smart, I did not understand the logic behind all this. the 60th ranked guy in my son's high school could go to the Ivy league, but my son and his friend who ranked better than this 60th kid could not make it, so what is the reason the other 59 kids are stupid, no they are white, Asian and European, so basically race plays a role in getting into the Ivy league colleges, so my take on this is ...if you are black and you made it to an Ivy league ...I am 100% sure you got it because you played the race card, and you are not that smart you pretend to be. So Obama, Michele and Susan Rice did play with the same card, and they are considered smart...hope you got it ...we know what it takes to go to an Ivy league, you do not have to tell us how smart these idiots are ...

cheers ...Susan rice made my day today ...

One can hear Lindsey Graham, John McCain and Susan Collins uncorking the champagne bottle. Their next move – be on the prowl for another patsy, and raise hell when found. What a pathetic bunch of ne'er-do-wells!

JV – “republicans take any opportunity to insult anyone who isn't within your party. You all sound foolish and my 10 year old child has more sense than you.” Liberal hypocrisy at its finest. But you don't see it, do you??

Although she was most qualified for this position, she TALKED herself out of it. We all make mistakes and I'm sure she has a bright future ahead of her, unlike her critics who will all be out the door in 2014.

Too bad Condi Rice was not held to these same rigorous standards – but I guess that was not as important back then, they only started a war...how many lives were lost in Iraq? Oh wait, it does not matter...to conservatives.

Yeah, we'll hear about her being attacked for being a woman, being attacked for being non-caucasian. What will get lost in the conversation is the fact that she was a political tool for an incompetent administration that let people die, then classified their loss as a mere "bump in the road." To me, since she was so willing to go on so many talk shows and provide information that should have been at least suspect to a woman of her vaunted intellectual reputation, I would not find a shred of comfort in her ability to represent our nation in that den of snakes called the United Nations.
