Susan Rice withdraws from consideration as secretary of state

(CNN) - Susan Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations who drew heavy criticism from Republicans over her statements after the September attacks on a U.S. diplomatic mission, withdrew her name from consideration for secretary of state on Thursday.

In a letter to President Barack Obama, she said "the confirmation process would be lengthy, disruptive, and costly - to you and to our most pressing national and international priorities. That trade-off is simply not worth it to our country."

Please Mr. President, don't select Senator Kerry. We don't want another election with Scott Brown in the running and he is salivating at the thought of Kerry moving into the cabinet.

I think this is a good move on her part. The GOP has been using her to fabricate conflict, where none should exist, in their continued efforts to sabotage the country for political gain. I hope that in 2014 we can overcome their gerrymandered districts and throw them all out.

Then Condalezza Rice should get life in prison for the pack of lies she spread on morning talk shows that resulted in getting literally tens of thousands of Americans killed or maimed. And as someone noted above re: Liz Warren, I hope this tough lady comes back and runs for the House or Senate and makes life miserable for those of the chicken hawk persuasion. McCain, Ayotte and Graham have reached such a pathetic state of accomplishing nothing that they likely actually regard this announcement as a victory.

Must have had more baggage than the masses were aware of. This is unusual for Obama to throw in the towel.

Good, we don't need another lying corrupt person from this administration. Maybe she can blame some YouTube video for why she didn't get the position.

One thing I have found out about Obama is that just as he is shuffling his feet to get your attention to his feet, a left hook is coming towards your face that you didn't even notice...

...Republicans are about to receive that left hook...

Someone below said "why? so sad"

If someone doesn't know why this happened they are either ignorant or have their head in the sand. Either way, their eligibility to vote should be taken away. People that uneducated on relevant current events are not qualified to decide who represents us as a nation.

Did we just have an election, in which the GOP lost??
You wouldn't know it by all the political posturing from the losing side.

So why is Obama still deliberating? Is that all he knows how to do, now that campaigning is off the table? Anyone blaming McCain is a liberal sheep. Liberals did the same thing to Palin and now they whine like little girls about Rice. What goes around comes around.

Obama knew she hasn't a chance in Hades of being accepted by Congress. This will allow him to "appoint " her to an equally important position which does not need to be approved and thus reward her for covering his hiney on Benghazi. This administration is a mockery of Democracy. A third World Banana Republic.

Another fine example from the 112th House of Representatives how utterly irrelevant and incompetant they are. Don't expect much better from #113. Bunch of clowns; unable to serve their country.
