Gun lobby has laid groundwork against any new laws

Washington (CNNMoney) – A cacophony of calls to change gun laws has emerged after last week's tragedy in Connecticut, and the National Rifle Association has kept quiet.

But no one expects silence from the NRA once President Obama or members of Congress make any move to change the laws.

We are ranchers in a small town in Colorado,my family have been around guns are entire lives. If someone wants to kill some one enough,im sorry they will find another way. As far as people trying to to our guns what gives them that right? I've never gone to where they live and told them to stop doing something because I didn't agree with it,or I didn't understand it.

Are you people that oblivious. I sleep with a gun next to me every night and I carried one while working for several years my firearms have never jumped up and start killing any innocent people ever. The problem is people you can take the guns away and they will use a knife you can take the knives away and they will use a bat or get creative and look up on the internet how to make a bomb. We need a better education system in this country that would help because better educated people are less likely to commit crimes.

FYI the school was a gun free zone nothing was stopping this guy from killing not one law stopped him from killing what will more laws do other than restrict the law abiding citizens like me.

Yes, let's put guns in schools. Oh, let's not forget the malls and movie theaters. We'll need them in every dorm on every college campus. Parks as well. Now that I think about it, any major city during rush hour is bound to have hundreds of people walking around. We are gonna need more cops. Too bad conservatives don't want to pay them.

Can the rest of you imagine the backlash had Obama suggested that we post armed guards at schools? They would accuse him of trying to take over the country.

"Guns don't kill !!! Never seen a gun shoot anything . The person holding the gun dose the damage."

Here's hoping you aren't a gun owner. And if - God forbid - you do own a gun ... please sell it immediately.

    And the pattern continues:

One side wants to discuss potential solutions that everyone can live with v. the other side trying desperately to shut down the conversation completely on the basis of there being no possible solutions other than turning our streets and public buildings into spaghetti westerns.

    Guns don't kill, people kill
    ---------------–
I am SO tired of hearing this. Let me tell you, heroin doesn't kill, missiles don't kill, military tanks don't kill, nuclear weapons don't kill, we should legalize heroin, legalize ownership of missiles, driving military tanks with machine guns, let anyone, any country that want to have nuclear weapons, please have them all. what the hell, they all don't kill, it's just the people. Then we will leave in peace without violence forever because we all are not "Soft Target" any more. You happy now?

I will not vote for any politician that appears with a gun in an ad. I would not marry or date ANYONE that owns a gun. I will not allow anyone carrying a gun [legally] into my business/ store. I will deny favor of any kind to those that even remotely are publicly PRO-GUN. I will shun you. You will pay a price for your infactuation with guns and ammo.

I`ll bet we can get the 326 MILLION citizens that ARE NOT members of the NRA to mobilize against the 4 million that are.

Local governments can enact onerous gun & ammo restrictions that make it a nusance to pull out a gun for anything other than the annual deer hunting trip. [BTW, wouldn`t the real sport be to face a deer with a cross bow ratheer than a high capacity GLock?].

22 children were attacked in a Chinese elementary school on Dec 14 by a nut job with a knife. This story was not picked up by any liberal news agency since it didnt align with their agenda of guns are bad. If my house is poorly built I dont blame the hammer, I blame the carpenter. Lets take off the politically correct blinders and blame the insane people behind these insane acts.

Banning assault rifles, could possibly deter thes attacks, banning violent tv and video games would definitly help. Banning pornography would eliminate many childrens deaths and abuse. Banning alcohol would save more lives than all of the above.

How many of these commenters are unemployed losers paid by the NRA? As far as I'm concerned, they are on the same level as al-Qaida. I'm not a gun control nut. I own a few. I love the hypocrisy about how we tell other countries they can't have nuclear weapons, but red state lunatics are stocking up for Armageddon. Hopefully the most rabid of them die by their own guns. And if I see one of these fools flashing their guns at me, I'm shooting first.

Automobile laws are very confining. You cannot drive on sidewalk. If any one carries a gun on the sidewalk that should be illegal too. In countries more like our own effective gun laws have kept hunters hunting and guns shot off the streets

Why does any one need weapons of war on city streets? No one is against guns used for hunting or self protection as protected by the 2nd amendment, but really assault weapons, war weapons!

    To be heard are foolish.

I see several people out here calling for a change to laws because guns are the problem. No, clearly this is not the point. Killing ANYONE is against the law. Laws were in place to prevent this from happening, and a criminal did what criminals always do, he broke the law. What makes you think that passing a law to ban firearms of any sort will be greeted by criminals with any sort of honor? If you outlaw guns, then only the criminals will have them. Do you really think that the government can do anything to prevent things like this from happening? I for one don't. Drugs kill people as well, they have been outlawed, and still yet the government can't keep them off the streets. What makes you think that the government will have any more success with firearms? Immorality is the real issue here, not what law abiding citizens choose to do with their money in the interests of protecting themselves. Sure, guns didn't save the boy's mother, but she of all people knew her son better than most and even she didn't feel threatened enough by what ever the situation was with her son to seek help. Why would she have felt the need to arm herself to defend herself from her own son? Logic people, that is what is sorely needed in our country today.

When will you people take your ignorant blinders off and stop waiving torches? YOU are the problem. What would you be shouting if a sword was used or a bomb filled truck? We need to get to the root of the problem and that is mental illness and how society has failed.

The second amendment is about militias, that is, citizens willing to be in the National Guard. It is not about assault rifles for nuts. It is way past time to have sensible gun control in the US. I will vote for and support candidates who support gun control and hope others will also.

What is needed is for schools to have the same security as airports, courthouses and other government buildings paid for by higher millage rates for high property values..
