(CNN) – U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice, once a top contender for the office of secretary of state, said "America is fortunate" with Sen. John Kerry as the president's pick to be the country's top diplomat.
"For over four decades, Senator Kerry has served extremely ably and demonstrated selfless commitment to our country," Rice said in a statement.

Rice was thought to be a front-runner for the post, but she withdrew her name from consideration last week, saying "the confirmation process would be lengthy, disruptive, and costly."
"That trade-off is simply not worth it to our country," she added.
Rice drew criticism for her description of the September 11, 2012, attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi, Libya, which killed four including the U.S. Ambassador to Libya, Chris Stevens. On television programs several days after the attack, she described a protest of an anti-Islam video outside the mission buildings, though the intelligence community later confirmed the violence as a terrorist attack.
In her statement about Kerry on Friday, she praised the senator, as well as outgoing Secretary Hillary Clinton.
"From his heroic service in the U.S. Navy, his principled opposition to the Vietnam War, and his distinguished tenure in the U.S. Senate, to his wise chairmanship of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Senator Kerry has led tirelessly and effectively to advance U.S. interests and values around the globe. I have been honored to work with him in the past, and I look forward to working closely with him again on President Obama's national security team.
Like so many, I am also deeply grateful to Secretary Clinton for her exemplary service as Secretary of State. I admire her enormously and greatly appreciate her support and partnership as a valued colleague. Our nation owes Secretary Clinton an enduring debt of gratitude for her many years of outstanding public service. I look forward to witnessing the next chapter in her remarkable story."

GOP idiots drama–Kerry goes to SOS–he leaves senate seat–then Scot Brown a loser takes–but this will REVERSE. GOP thugs are nasty idiots. Pass GUN-CONTROL LAW. Obama signs. Obama stick to your guns on FISCAL CLIFF. If middle Class Tax is raised it is GOP IDIOTS RUSE–entire 2014 result turns to DEMOCRATIC. God bless.
PS: listen to me, Obama. I will advise. From shrewd.
Pass the word....>>>>>>>> MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
It's unfortunate that such a strong and intelligent professional as Rice can be side-lined by the right wing circus of perpetual lies and deception. The American people deserve to have the best working for them, but some are continually fooled into following the worst of our society.
john kerry wow now susan rice talking about john kerry when people blast her down isnt that something
The new gop+tp+nra= my way or my way........end of story.
Susan Rice is a class act.
Susan Rice is more intelligent than any two republicans I can think of.
Very nice choice of words from ms.rice. But frankly I dont believe a word of it.
Fortunuate. We now have another liberal surrender monkey as Secy of State. Will he make a world apology tour like his incompetent, inept, corrupt boss? How is that "reset" thing they lied about when they first started going? I guess that must be like all that Stimulus money that we had to pay so the unemployment rate woudl not rise above 8%, or that "summer of prosperity" the hair plugged vice president said we would have in 2010 if we gave a trillion taxpayer dollars to the corrupt unions and people who contributed to the Obozo campaign. Then again maybe it is like the Obozocare which we were told by the liar himself would not cost us one more dime and was not a tax (read the Surpreme Courts ruling carefully folks, it is a tax.)
This whole Benghazi fiasco is GOP smoke and mirrors. They wanted to discredit Rice (and Hillary for 2016), get Obama to nominate Kerry (with which he nicely complied), approve Kerry, then work toward Scott Brown winning the available MA senate seat. See.. simple.
The President made his decision based on what was best for the country. Choosing someone else to try to hold onto a senate seat would be politics as usual. Now is up to MAss.
McCain (the Songbird of Viet Nam) must think he won some important election. He bribed the people of Arizona. Wish he had to run in a swing state. ha ha ha ha
