Washington (CNN) - For National Rifle Association Vice President Wayne LaPierre and many other pro-gun Americans, the task is clear: The best way to protect children from becoming victims of a slaughter like the one seen last week in Newtown, Connecticut, is to make sure every school in America has "qualified armed security."
For President Barack Obama, many Democratic leaders and a slight majority of the American public, the solution starts with tougher legislation on assault weapons, universal background checks and limits on high-capacity magazines, the first steps needed to begin to make it harder to get at the kinds of firearms that kill thousands of Americans each year.
The right just don't get it. Their time has past. The country has evolved and if they can't keep up they will become extinct.
the NRA lives in la la land their ideas are both stupid and insulting to the American people.
If there were "real" solutions on the table from those ideologues caught up in the notion that the "only gun is a scrapped/confiscated/banned gun" instead of going after the real cause of this horrific problem – "Perps" – I believe both sides could and would find some meaningful and positive points upon which to agree. Won't happen! But then novel ideas are usually wasted on ideologically-locked-step folks, as are the gun-control lobby that make their living or get their political support from such causes. Can't afford to get off the reservation or think outside the box.
Some prefer to distract rather than act.
NRA is the gun industry's lobbyist who will do anything and say anything to protect their money.
While many feel the 2nd Amendment gives them the right to bear arms for protection the NRA desire to have armed teachers/cops in every school impinges upon the rights of parents not wanting their children in any school that has weapons. All of our rights are ours as long as we do not impinging or contingent upon another citizens rights. I believe the Supreme Court once again got it wrong and the right to bear arms is for a well trained miitia. Not even Patrick Henry believed in individuals to bear arms. We need to have weapons like the DMV. Register, licensed, and updated renewals. People's abilities and health change and renewals would offer temporary and permant solutions. IE. many people have eyesight issues (accurately hit your target) and many people are on depression meds (anger is a sign of depression) both could have restrictions are gun use/ownership that could be temporary or permanent. For those who think bearing arms to protect themselves from government who have stepped over the line need to look no further than the American Revolution or latest events in the Arab Spring, you need the support (men, money, materials) of other countries to actually have success. Americans would have lost the American Revolution against Britian without the French.
Theres already 300million guns in this country. An armed officer would have stopped that massacure. So lets just use common sense. Personally I dont care if theres a tank parked at every school. One that blew A. Lanza to dust before he fired a shot.
The people will ultimately decide!!! Inform yourselves, know what people stand for and against, express your views and remember to protect the innocent and their memory!!!! Then VOTE....HISTORY WILL JUDGE US.
A Vietnam draft dodger and guns just doesn't make sense. He wouldn't go to war but he needs guns to kill Americans.
It is the right time to pass GUN-CONTROL LAW. End of argument,
It is unfair to state that NRA members want armed security in every school. Many members have come forward to say that is NOT a solution. Please do not generalize because that causes many problems.
what are the people supposed to do no one has came up with nothing about the guns and the nra people just not understanding whos going to solved all this guns problems and all the shooting and killing whos to blame
