Washington (CNN) - A plurality of Americans think President Barack Obama will do a better job during his second term than he did in his first term in the White House, according to a new national survey.
A CNN/ORC International poll released Thursday morning indicates that 46% say they expect Obama will do a better job as president over the next four years than he did the past four years, with 22% saying he'll do a worse job, and just over three in ten saying he'll perform about the same as he did in his first term.
The survey indicates an expected partisan divide, with more than eight in ten Democrats saying the president will do a better job, 40% of independents agreeing and a third of independents saying he'll perform about the same. Half of Republicans questioned say Obama will do about the same, with 43% saying he'll perform worse over the next four years than he did in his first term.
The CNN poll was conducted by ORC International December 17-18, with 620 adults nationwide questioned by telephone. The survey's overall sampling error is plus or minus four percentage points.

He should do better because he can kick but* in congress now that they can't make him a one term president.
The likes of boner and cantor and mcconnell and ryan and ayotte and ms lindsay (among so many others) will face the music from the US and its citizens now that they continue to put speed bumps knowing full well WE the people have spoken and we don't like their pledge to norquist or their little brats the tea trolls.
His second term hasn't started yet and the if the wind-down of his first term is any indication, he's toast. This administration loves looking back and citing 1st accomplishments; waiting i the wings for new 1st events....
... first Administration to recieve to credit down grades.
... first administration to oversee to Recessions.
... first administration to single handedly divide a country
... first administration to lead the world from behind and watch Middle East unrest.
... first administration to ilead America into a Lost Decade plus....
president perform great for his first 4 years and he will perform better and better until he last 4 years in the white house the last presidents didn perform well at all obama is a outstanding president
46% say he will do a better job, while 52% say he will do the same or worse, not better. So much for the spin on this one.
I would hope that he would do better and have more cooperative Congress. The way that many Republicans acted toward the president is just rude. Their primary function is not to stop the president, but to carry out the work of the people. I don't care how small and vocal the group is that say the president should not be in office. Talk like that isn't productive and is rude. I hope that this Congress coming up are willing to talk to the president.
I think he will do better but congress will remain 2 suck. Obama will hv 2 use executive orders 2 get things done and reid will reform filibuster. But if the only thing coming out of house is more god on our $ and abortion then they gop will go the way of wigs.
if the republicans allow him to pass his legislative initiatives, he will definitely do a good job during his second term. but, unfortunately the republicans are already fleeing their muscle for the next election.
I think President Obama will be more forceful this term. The worst nightmare of the RNC will become true, a Democrat who can govern without worrying about the next election.
The greatest roadblock to governance in the United States for either party is the Tea Party. These people live in a fantasy in which they are John Wayne, all alone and with a single action Colt that has a million bullets in it, defending Maureen O'Hara against 10,000 Sioux warriors. Sadly the Tea Party faithful have tantrums regularly and that terrifies the Republican caucus which has a majority in the House.
2014 will see an end to the Tea Party and the Republican majority – or an end to the Republican Party.
its a simple answer, obama wants to be a dictator, transform America to his liking and we all will bow and honor him, thats how he will run, or another way is its my way or the highway, i'll just sign another executive order because I am king obama your dictator., its that simple
About the same; lazy, passive, uninspired. MSNBC will declare him the greatest man-god to ever trod foot on earth.
An inexperienced liberal would never change. It is curious to see who they blame ths economic desaster over the next 4 years to. It is Obama economy finaly.
He definitely cannot do any worse. That's for sure.
President Obama did a great job in his first term and I think he will do well in his second term. What he needs is a congress that is not focused on the 2014 election. Boehner & Co. are set, I believe, to hold America hostage until then. Apparently, they did not take the lessons of this election seriously. How many Tea Party/GOP do we need to fire before they get the point? It is probably worth pointing out that the same people who reelected the president can't wait to get rid of the rest road blockers in Congress.
