(CNN) – Call it fiscal frustration.
After a dry-spell of deal making in Washington, Americans are ready for lawmakers to kiss-and-make up for the good of the country.
If the “Come Together” message on Starbucks cups wasn’t innuendo enough, a video from the group “The Can Kicks Back” puts the metaphor in more explicit terms. The bipartisan group, also behind a video of 81-year-old former Sen. Alan Simpson Gangnam Style-ing, wants young people more engaged in Washington process.
“It’s almost midnight and the window of opportunity is closing,” a silky-voiced male narrator begins over video of a man and a woman flirting at a party. “Ever since arriving he’s been checking her out from across the aisle, and despite the chatter and chaos, she’s been flirting and glancing back.”
The pair exchanges only-in-Washington sexts: “Hey baby, let’s get fiscal.”
“Maybe. $4 trillion package?”
The video came out last week – and negotiators haven’t gotten “fiscal” yet.
Some point to Republican intransigence on raising taxes as the root of the problem, while others say Democrats aren’t putting enough spending on the table.
The party line has shown signs of cracking – but according to anti-tax crusader Grover Norquist, that doesn’t mean Republicans are abandoning their chastity.
“No Republican has voted for a tax increase,” Norquist said on CNN’s “Starting Point.” “We’ve got some people discussing impure thoughts on national television.”
Perhaps it’s a sign of deeper issues. Enter 84-year-old year old sex therapist Dr. Ruth Westheimer:
Members of Congress who can't compromise probably aren't good lovers. Sex requires give and take.— Dr. Ruth Westheimer (@AskDrRuth) December 27, 2012

My followers aren't worried about falling off fiscal cliff. Are worried about falling off bed from vigorous sex.— Dr. Ruth Westheimer (@AskDrRuth) December 27, 2012

At least someone’s getting together.
To quote Ronald Regan, "there you go again." There's a lot of posturing going on right now by both parties. Stop trying to cover this story like a sporting event. Trying to broadcast an hourly score is meaningless. Some kind of deal is going to happen because an extended stalemate will damage both parties (and the rest of us who happen to live in the U.S). Whether that deal happens before midnight 12/31 or early in 2013 isn't really that important. You guys did the same thing with polls in the 2012 election and, for the most part, looked stupid when most of the polls turned out to be wrong. Breathlessly covering every statement by every politician and pundit on the dreaded fiscal cliff is equally stupid. When a deal is announced, by all means analyze it. Until then, give it a rest. I realize there isn't much else happening during this holiday week, but this is one of those stories where nothing meaningful is going to happen until a deal is announced. Until then, everything you hear is posturing.
For the love of Gawd and all that is holy, do your freakin JOB and fix this mess YOU thought up in the first place. I don't care WHO does it, just get it done. If I putzed around on MY job like our reps are doing now, I would be out on my can so fast, I couldn't pack up fast enough.
@CanadianJohn – nicely put. like all of the commercials i have seen about living within a budget these past months, you can clearly see the problem. the problem isnt that there isnt enough income, but that there is way too much going out.
Dr. Ruth is an expert in what congress, senate, and the president are doing to us now.
The next election should remind them for whom they work!
No one wants to fix the mess. It means more money for the government. They know exactly what they are doing.
Who do the Republicans think they represent?
The biggest contributors to oue debt is, The Bush Tax cuts, Bush's unfunded medicare prescription plan, and the 2 wars that weren't even in the budget until Obama added them. Yet they refuse to take any responsibility for any of this and are more worried about keeping Grover Norquist happy then doing what 70% of Americans want them to do.
Hey there is a reason Obama won the election, won the popular vote, and won every battle ground state.
It's going to be rough for a while. We know this is going to hit everyone. Just make the hits fair. The American people are resilient when we are not being pitted against each other.
I've tried real hard to stay away from ALL THINGS POLITICS during my Christmas vacation, but everytime I see Boehner and McConnell I become angry. When are the republicans going to let their hatred of the president go and try to help the American people? There are so many families out there who will be hurt by this ignorance and yet, they don't care as long as it hurts the president. I am so sick of this nonsense and unwillingness to compromise and I blame EVERYONE of you who voted to place these thugs back into (government) positions, after they clearly showed us over eight years they were not fit or capable of governing the American people. Everyone one of them spent an enjoyable Christmas without a thought of how many people will be hurt in their quest to "stick it to the president".
Get ready for hard times because they're surely coming your way.
Please Mr. President stand up for once and quit caving in.
Obama is pathetic. Nothing ever seems to get accomplished under his watch if it has anything to do with fixing our financial house.
Sorry, Mr. President you did win the election, but no CROWN can with that win. It is about time you govern and show leadership. You keep stating you promised to make the wealth pay more taxes, but you also promised to work with the Republicans not brow beat them into you way of thinking. The problem is SPENDING, not revenue. You and the Democrats still don't get it, cut out all the spending . Allow business to grow and hire more individuals and you will have higher revenue, DUH! For some unknown reason you hate the wealthy, but yet you want to have what they have.
