'Fiscal cliff' talks stall in final hours

(CNN) - Senate Republicans and Democrats remain far apart in their effort to avert a year-end combination of spending cuts and tax increases that could trigger a new recession, Majority Leader Harry Reid said Sunday.

"There's still significant distance between the two sides, but negotiations continue," Reid said as Congress held a rare Sunday session in a bid to avoid the so-called fiscal cliff. "There's still time left to reach an agreement, and we intend to continue negotiations."

They will kick the can down the road, As nothing much will come out of the so called fiscal cliff. The persons responsible just need to be locked up in a big room untill they can get along or step aside and let common sense people take over their positions as they put in their I quit cards. We need to vote all the bums out of office and start fresh with a congress with term limits as it is the life long job security is all they are after. We The People are on the end game to destruction as the current congress stays in place.

Somebody said in a show yesterday morning that if congress were private employees they would have been fired a long time ago or they woudl have bankrupted whatever company they worked for mostly in the last four years.
I work for a huge company and if you don't drink the kool aid (or pretend to do so) you are fired!!
The rethugs in congress just don't realize what their childish hate does for the country.

Sure are a whole lot of Republican lobbyists flocking to CNN trying to put blame Obama for the fiscal cliff fiasco. Guess we didn't see that coming, huh? The lobbyists, that is...giving Boehner and company a free pass.

The GOP says they are the "responsible" ones on the deficit- perhaps that is correct. After all, under President Bush, they certainly played the greatest role in making it. Their crazy "cut taxes and spend" gambit has blown up in their faces and they have nothing but their so-called principles to guide them.
If the GOP had its way, we'd see more tax cuts for the rich (that does nothing for the debt, deficit or the economy), and increased taxes on the middle class and poor (that will diminish economic activity, and likely cause ANOTHER recession).

The GOP has no clue, yet refuses to do anything for anyone but the rich. If we go over the cliff tomorrow, that is the day the GOP begins to die. The recession is theirs, the debt is theirs, the deficit is theirs as is the cliff. Americans know this, and there are not enough rich voters to save the GOP.

Oh, don't sweat it, ye lofty self-important politicians.
We no longer expect enlightened governance.
We no longer expect that you will even leave us undisturbed.
You are worse than useless, for you actively get in the way of us just trying to live our lives.
    But we expect it.
    So relax.

I say raise the redistribution level on anyone making 25k a year. They don't need it! I do! I haven't looked for a job in years (I blame Bush for that) And my four kids from three different fathers is Bush's fault as well. With that said, football is on. The rest of you need to get back to work; I am depending on your redistribution/contribution.

Every single member of congress is a complete clown. Every member should be grabbed by the neck of thier empty suit and thrown into the street. We actually really elected these clowns to represent us? All they care about is arguing with each other to advance the interests of thier parties. They could care less about the family that will lose their extended unemployment benefits or the increased deductions to their weekly paycheck. Many people live week to week, paycheck to paycheck as compared to these selfish, privlivegded elected officials who live a very comfortable life where regardless of the actions ( or really no action) ,of what happens they will be fine....What did we elect them to do? Every last one needs to be thrown out immediatlely. The people need to descend on Washington D.C. on Jan 2nd and take back the government and let REAL people....not a bunch of empty suits and rich born into politics morons to continue to determine the future of our great nation.....

So the GOP is against raising taxes? Every person in this country that pays SS and Medicare taxes is basicly getting a back door increase with their entitlement reform. And yes, we are entitled to them because we pay a designated tax for them. There is a lot of govt waste at every level, and our entire system needs to be reformed. Pass something, then start reforming every govt program. I bet we could save a bunch of money then.

Of course the Republicans changed their position again. It is indeed a sad day for AMerica when one political party tries to stop any movement forward. If the members of Congress cannot fulfill their obligations then resign and go back home. We need people who will work together and who can negotiate the best possible outcome. Right now the Republicans do not have anyone in power who can dod that. Sen. McConnell will not move off the proverbial dime and Speaker Boehner is not fully recognize as the leader of his party by some members of Congress.

Get the tea party out of there! They have never done anything for this congress except block everything. CNN, in keeping them honest, show how much the lobbyists are paying congress and republicans to have Obama fail. Obviously, their money didn't buy the election. It is time to listen to the voters and raise taxes on the rich and leave the middle class alone! After all, they are the ones that made them rich. And, yes, let's blame who is at fault for this, Martin, it is time for that to get them out of there. usual. I think it is funny that congress has fully paid health insurance & a retirement & they are deciding if I should have health care and what age I have to work. Must be nice to live in their world and only work half the year. Boo hoo that they were called back today.
