Debt ceiling: Welcome to Fight Club

New York (CNNMoney) - Brinksmanship over the debt ceiling could make the fiscal cliff standoff look like child's play.

Right after the House passed the fiscal cliff compromise, President Obama said, "I will not have another debate with this Congress over whether or not they should pay the bills that they've already racked up through the laws that they passed."

    Oh raise the damn thing already. You allowed George Bush to raise the debt ceiling at will. Fiscal responsibility wasn't even in your lexicon. You cannot make President Obama look bad. You tried and he was reelected so you lose. Stop it! If you want to cut something, cut your salaries, pay more on your healthcare and give up those expensive perks. THEN Americans will believe that you are worried about the deficit. You won't make any points with the voters by balancing the budget on the backs of the elderly and the poor.

    I despise the way the right wing characterizes the continued failure of Barack Obama and John Boehner to close a deal and get it passed as if it were entirely the President's fault. As I recall, there have been a few occasions where Boehner simply couldn't get any compromise through his caucus.

    When was the last time you heard the phrase "Camp Daid"?

    Bring it on Republicans- every time you fight progress it makes you all just that much more unpopular. NO ONE thinks your little plan to end Social Security and Medicaid (especially while lining the pockets of the rich with tax cuts) is a good choice.

    There shouldn't BE a debt ceiling fight. Congress simply needs to raise the debt ceiling and keep it moving. This fight doesn't benefit anybody. It only harms the nation

    @Rick McDaniel
    You have written: "The spending has to stop".

    Can you please enlighten me what you can do without spending? I hope the answer is "None". If this is not the case, then you need to send all lawmakers back to where they came from because there will not be any job for them to do in Washington.

    "Fight" ? why would anyone in congress use that word ? Didn't use to be that way. You hardly ever heard of the word fight. Why don't the good 'ol boy "mitch" use the words : "we'll try to be bi-partisan, on this or that ??" amazing, those people will never change. I guess it's a good thing Boehner is still spkr – Can u imagine if McConnell & Boehner switched positions ? I mean, can u imagine IF Mitch was the Speaker ?? LOL – Hate to be a bearer of bad tidings, but he's NOT a crybaby, and he won't shed ANY Tears, after he breaks it off in Obama. ( or at least , trys to )
    Bottom Line is this : Boehner has Showed the Democrats he can Cave. McConnell Won't, or will Never do that.
    SO – what does this mean ? It means that NOW the Dems can push Boehner to his limits, til he shows Tears. ( They know he will end up caving)

    It's odd that you liberals believe trying to solve our nations debt is brinksmanship or gerrymandering or obstruction.....do you think our nation can survive like this for much longer? Our government wastes signifacant tax payer dollars on a daily basis and what we need to do is draw the line where the waste is occuring, no one is suggesting to stop all spending. If the left was as interested in solving real issues as they are in the media driven, popularity contest of politics perhaps they would see more clearly....but I doubt it.
