Just over 11 years ago, 3000 people were killed by people using box cutters. I can still to this day walk into any store anywhere in the US and buy a box cutter. Why is that?

Risk management is what it is. This carnage is unacceptable. First, we have to minimize access to weapons which can fire more that just a few cartridges, maybe 4, rapidly and without reloading. And, second, we have to begin to diagnose and deal effectively with mental illness. The second amendment looks toward a "well regulated militia" and it's time we regulated it well. And even freedom of speech is not absolute. It is a criminal offense to yell "fire" in a crowded theater when there is no fire, because the risk of injury and loss of life is too great. We do not need gun battles in schools. We do not need a society armed to the teeth. We need to face this problem and we need reasonable minds to think it through.

Please let the "new" congress observe the wisdom of our founding fathers:

“Those who desire to give up freedom in order to gain security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one.” Ben Franklin.

Thomas Jefferson quote: "Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.”

The beauty of the Second Amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it. Thomas Jefferson

When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.
    Thomas Jefferson

I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them. Thomas Jefferson

    Not going to happen.

All they want, is to keep the people from rebelling against their dictator.
