Obama to hold news conference Monday

(CNN) – President Barack Obama will hold a news conference Monday at 11:15 a.m. ET, the White House announced.

Obama will make an opening statement about the debt limit, according to a White House official. The debt limit is poised to become the next battle between the White House and Congress - Republicans want spending cuts attached to any measure raising the debt limit, while Obama has said he won't negotiate on raising the ceiling.

It is hard to accept that so many people drink the Obama Kool-Aide and cheer as our great country
    fails.

It is time for the Prez to play hardball on behalf of the people who elected him. We support his agenda–does he? The voices of those who opposed and now still oppose him should have no influence on him.

Cut spending by stopping subsidies and tax breaks to rich oil companies, to factory farms and other overstuffed parasite, that are taking advantage of ordinary taxpayers, with the help of their rented Republican congressmen !!, and of the Pea Tardy nitwits, who don't have a clue to where the real waste is !!

Like them or not, the GOP reps were legitimately elected to represent their districts. Obama needs to work with them, but instead he's lording over. He needs to reach out to them and form some sort of compromise if he wants to get anything done. Most Americans supported his plan to raise taxes on the wealthy, but most Americans also support government spending cuts. Unless he wants to leave a crappy legacy like Bush, he needs to remember this.

I will give amnesty to illegals, repeal the 2nd amendment, and spare the middle class from tax hikes. We will take a balanced approach to more and more spending to fix our fiscal crisis......is he going to say something new or just blame congress again??? No need to answer

Is there any way middle class taxes won't go up at the end of this? So much for looking out for us.

"Wont reign in spending.....so raise the debt limit."

It has to go up to pay for SPENDING THAT ALREADY TOOK PLACE.

It has nothing to do with "making room for future spending." The budget this year could be ZERO and the debt ceiling still has to go up.

What don't you understand about this? Are you all so freekin foolish and blind and hooked on Faux talking points that you simply refuse to learn that you've got it wrong? Or is it simply on purpose...you know you're lying and come here to spew lies in hopes of duping other idiots who are inclined to join your tantrums? It's one or the other: you're either very very stupid or very very dishonest. Choose.

Clinton left a surplus the republicans spent it amongs each other and their intrest, now they want to cut the things that have nothing to do with the deficit ,as soon as they get the fiscal situation in order the republicans are going to spend it again, we the tax payers are being tricked in cutting programs that benifit us while the deficiet is caused because the wealthy raided the tresasury and now they need us to fill it again

These comments make me believe that people STILL don't undestand that the debt ceiling is tied to bills we have already made a commitment to pay. NOT any future spending increases.

Message To All Repubs., Leaders & Members: GROW UP. We live in a land of over 300 Million people. Are we going to continue to be a Nation or a piece of geography inhabited by 300 Million people.? You can't always get everything you want, even if you throw tantrums. EVERYBODY has certain Rights in this Country. When you abuse YOUR Rights through excess, you're stepping on OTHERS Rights. Think & empathize before you crap; there's always somebody downstream. P.S.- Even the Hippies of yesterday have learned this lesson.

Between gun control and the debt ceiling, this will be one heck of a political season. Get your front seat tickets now, folks.

On a more serious note, I'm seriously tired of the ultra-partisanship and absolute ineptitude of our government. When I speak of government, I speak of all branches, all parties. I'll be watching to see who I should vote out in 2014. Spoiler: I'll be voting out the ultra-partisans and putting in moderates.

sown is definately being reaped! Havoc, "special agendas," ad finitum are the name of the game!! to the detriment
of those of us who made the choice NOT to drink the kool aide.

Don't negotiate or even discuss the debt ceiling with Republicans. Downgrading the credit of the U.S., as Republicans did before on this issue, causes economic instability both here and in world markets. We, as individuals, must pay our debts owed and so must the United Srates. Make sure the People understand this is paying on money already spent NOT an act to approve more spending on new things. The days of Republlican obstructionism and using the filibuster 386 times to make sure nothing for the benefit of the People could even come up for debate must be stopped. Intentionally hurting the nation, our economy, and our People is not only a betrayal of the People's trust by elected members of Congress but treason. Never before has there ever been such an extreme Republican Party so ready to hold our nation back, destroy its image in the world, and by not raising the debt ceiling actually increase our debt through the higher interest rates we are charged for defaulting on our debt payments. No more blackmail allowed from this self-destructing Party.Whether we pay our national debt payments is not negotiable as sane people know and any Republican who dares to play games with our credit rating should not be allowed to ever serve again within our government. And for some facts for a change, President Obama has spent less than any President dating back to Roosevelt and his New Deal program which pulled the nation from Depression. Most of our current debt comes from the Bush administration and his 2 fraudulent wars and tax cuts and goodies for the richest Americans and corporations. Did you know it is also unConstitutional not to pay our debts? Republicans are defying the Constitutional requirement that we must pay our debts with their games and lies about the debt ceiling. Again we need leaders who understand the Constitution, basic economics, and do not bring shame on the U.S. for faiilng to make payments on debt already incurred.

I don't think Obama knows what his agenda really is! He is a liar and a manipulator. He knows how to talk the talk, but doesn't know how to walk the walk. It is really sad that CNN supports this man so much and does not report on any of the negative that Obama is doing. CNN would be a great news source if it weren't so one sided. Obama is going to ruin our country and has started with our health care system. Please wake up people and do the research! It is the "honey boo boo's family" of this country who elected him, uneducated people who want everything for free! Please read more than just CNN and at least see a different point of view. Don't become a puppet, please!

To luckjoe, there is no koolaide, The MAJORITY of Americans reject the policies you support and your party. Under our President's policies we are recovering from a terrible depression. The immediate goal of the American people is JOBS not austerity. Just common sense, heal the economy FIRST, attack the debt AFTER unemployment drops below 6%. Big cuts now will reproduce Great Britain's disaster – a double dip depression and gretare unemployment. Obama understands this, he prioritizes, jobs FIRST, debt SECOND. Turn off Fox news and get out of the Republican echo chamber.

Criminy, GOP, this isn't difficult. You want to reduce spending? Great. The time to debate that is in budget negotiations. Do it then. Do not threaten to simply not pay the bills you've already racked up – that's utter madness that will ruin us all, even if you "win."
