Washington (CNN) - An adviser to Sarah Palin chided the Hollywood Foreign Press Association on Monday for awarding several Golden Globes to the HBO political drama “Game Change.”
The film, based on the book of the same name by the journalists John Heilemann and Mark Halperin, was a critical portrait of Palin’s tumultuous role in John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign. The movie picked up three Golden Globes Sunday evening, including one for best mini-series or motion picture made for television.
Julianne Moore also won an award for her portrayal of Palin. Ed Harris won for playing McCain.
Palin aide Jason Recher called the film a work of fiction.
"It comes as no surprise that the Hollywood Foreign Press recognized another Hollywood group, HBO, for their work of fiction and awarded a prize for best fictional filmmaking,” Recher told CNN. “The reality was an original American story, not a screenplay by people who only imagined events to fit their fiction."
Recher and other Palin loyalists from the 2008 campaign have been sharply critical of the film since it was released early last year. At the time, Palin’s political action committee responded with a slickly-produced video montage of pundits praising Palin’s impact on the McCain campaign.
Palin backers say the movie is based primarily on the biased accounts of former McCain advisers Steve Schmidt and Nicolle Wallace, two of Palin’s fiercest critics.
The creators of the film, Jay Roach and Danny Strong, have defended their work, saying they relied on people both critical of and sympathetic to the former Alaska governor in developing the project.
In her acceptance speech, Moore thanked comedian Tina Fey and former CBS anchor Katie Couric for making “a significant difference in the 2008 election.” Fey famously mocked Palin on Saturday Night Live, and Couric won plaudits for an interview with Palin in which the vice presidential nominee seemed flustered and unprepared.
Recher said Sunday’s award show was a vivid example of Hollywood liberalism at work.
"The media is reporting last night was Hollywood shining the light on and celebrating women,” he said. “It’s clear however they only celebrate women who fit their political ideology. Women who don’t conform to their liberal values are torn down in terribly harsh ways - a clear double standard which was awarded last night.”
Have you ever seen a bunch with such thin skin. All this proves is that even the Foreign Press realizes what a disaster Palin was as a candidate............Gee thanks McCain for giving us this woman
What in the world would a Sarah Palin advisor do? Tie her shoes maybe. Remind her to breath?
Ms. Palin is incredibly irrelevant, except as the asterisk "* Wrecked John McCain's campaign". Despite that her story much like Mr. G.W. Bush's – a compelling one marking the downfall of the Republican brand.
Is this idiotic "advisor" suggesting, that anybody should take Palin seriously? Get real, she was a total joke that nobody
would ever have heard of if McCain had not made the biggest mistake of his life!
McCain's choice of Tea Party darlin' Palin as his running mate displayed very poor judgement & has turned out to be his political undoing.
Sarah has become virtually irrelevant & it could be said that she was somewhat tragically used & discarded. Any publicity @ this point should be appreciated by her & her "advisors", including Mr. Recher.
"Couric won plaudits for an interview with Palin in which the vice presidential nominee seemed flustered and unprepared." Flustered and unprepared? That is the understatement of the new century. The woman couldn't name one magazine she had read. She answered questions by responding in an incomprehensible word salad. The prima donna single-handedly destroyed McCain's campaign, thank goodness.
For all of you Hollywood haters-
Look- Palin did alright. She had a disasterous political career: aborting both her term on the Alaska Oil & Gas Commission, and her governorship at less than the halfway point. Meanwhile she was a "successful" mayor in a little backwater town and managed to get the nod for VP- in the failed McCain campaign. Despite that she made millions prostituting her family in one of the worst TV shows ever.
No reason to feel bad for her she got used and used others as well.
Who cares what the Palins think? They are history, Thank God!
Wah, wah wah! So, are these guys complaining the movie is fictional because Palin wasn't portrayed as being as destructive as she really was to the entire Republican party?
Republicans failed to heed the warning when they saw Palin's ridiculous and hateful message rejected by everybody but the far right-wing. Instead, they got energized by her nonsense and produced that clown car of candidates for 2012. The rest is history – like the Republican Party will be if they don't ditch the Tea Party and N.R.A.
Who is Sara Pallid again?
"Palin backers say the movie is based primarily on the biased accounts of former McCain advisers Steve Schmidt and Nicolle Wallace, two of Palin’s fiercest critics."
Oh yeah, Palin sped up John McCain road to defeat. You big dummy....
1) Why does Sarah Palin still have an AIDE?
2) Who cares what she thinks any more?
Sarah Who ???
Palin's aides didn't get Bobby Jindal's email
"Republicans should “stop being the stupid party”"
Question...why does Palin even have aides?...does she even have a job now a days?
Actually Schueneman and Beigun, vouched for openly, while Wallace and Schmidt were spreading lies to the New Yorker, Politico, et al, The wardrobe consultant Lise Klein, cleared the record, a year later, A McCain and subsequent Romney staffer Brian Jones, wrote the memo those two slugs, used as a template,
it was apparent that when mccain hired a woman, whose sole motivation appeared to be revenge for all those that had apparently done her or her family worng (all the way back to high school!), was the game changing event. the woman was totaly incapable of handling an easy softball interveiw with cbs, and yet she's presented to be a heart beat away? truly frightening. mccain shall be forever shamed by the choice. palin, will just continue to be the grifter she is – it's what she's best at.
The biased accounts of former McCain advisors. So the very people that were pulling like heck for them to win.
You gotta hand it to republicans. They maybe following an old playbook, but they follow it to a tee. Whatever the situation, all they do is lie, deny and finally cry.
Example......Mitt Romney will win the White House.......went to.....Romney can't be losing Ohio.......to finally...Obama only won because of free stuff.
By "Palin adviser" do you mean one of the many grifter family members that are being paid by through her PAC?
Bobby T said " Why does Sarah Palin still have an AIDE?"
I wondered the same thing the instant I read the headline.
John created a monster, I am hoping she just goes away, you will see her in 2016' I bet, she is getting ready to throw her hat in the ring. She would love nothing more than to be the first female President. She has a point to prove to everyone.
could it be possible the actual works of fiction about Sarah Palin were the two books she "wrote" and also that movie "UnDefeated" that raked in so much money at the box office when it came out?
The thing is, Game Change actually offered a side to the Palin story that made her a "sympathetic character" (this could be too big of a term for Palin and her aides to fully understand). Secondly, the fact that people were reminded of this very good movie on awards night is a big favor to the Palin camp, since Sarah already has begun her inevitable slide toward irrelevance.
No, they were the ones who pushed McCain to give up the campaign, for excuses like 'Obama embodied the idealism of RFK' and other such carp.
The only thing I want to hear from Sarah Palin is "Goodbye."
