Obama budget office: Prepare for job cuts

Washington (CNNMoney) - The White House budget office has asked federal agencies to "intensify" preparations for massive cuts, should Congress not be able to come to a deal to avert them before March 1.

The Office of Management and Budget released a memo on Monday asking the agencies to identify ways to shrink their budgets. Some of the options include shrinking their work forces through hiring freezes and furloughs and finding grants and contracts that can be cut, according to a memo by OMB Deputy Director for Management Jeffrey Zients.

These self inflicted wounds Congress is intent on inflicting on our economy is almost treasonous. We send them to Washington to govern and they can't. I call that a failure to lead and therefore Congress should be relieved of their duties.

Obama, wants a fight. It pains me to say that republicans let Obama out think them again. this is not good situation to be in. voters will blame us if we shut down. my dreams of a nice 2014 will be lost. this would be a good time for republicans to seperate from the tea party.sorry, but if we dont let them go now,we all are going down with them.

"I hereby pledge to do whatever is in my power to prevent the re-election of any politician who places the American people in economic jeopardy just to make political gains from the debt ceiling scenario."

This is absolutely not about debt reduction – this is money we've already obligated. If Republicans have specific items they want cut from the budget they need to make a list and publish that list. If slashing Medicare benefits is their priority then they need to have the stones to just propose those cuts in a public forum. Put the defense contracts on the table as well. Quit holding America hostage with childish games. Say what you mean.

Pres. Obama did not "out think" anyone on the Republican side. The Republicans simply got too clever for themselves. They have completely lost the capacity for logical, rational decisions because they have allowed emotions to rule their thought processes.

No sir. The real treason is congress refusing to work for the people instead of the party. There is not one person in congress nor from either party that can convince me that they are doing this for the people. They are doing for their party and for themselves. To get re-elected. If anyone wants to go on welfare, they just have to run for congress. They get their salaries paid for by us, their health insurance paid by us and their pensions paid by us. All for doing nothing. Get the point?

Seriously? Let's try saying this again; Raising the debt ceiling allows for the country to pay for spending that congress has already agreed to. The simple analogy is eating at a restaurant and once the bill comes refusing to pay.

According to Obama, circa 2006, the need to raise the debt ceiling was the result of the failure of executive leadership. I can't fathom that things have changed that much...

Remember folks to thank those most responsible for putting our country on the current road to the poor house; the practicioners of that ancient religion called TrickleDown, the Republicans. It was all good until they ran the Congress for 12 straight years and the White House for the final six of those years, which is right when the wheels came off the trailer.

Lynn... the feds bring in 60% of the money they need to run the government... more than enough to cover servicing the debt, paying SS... paying Medicare, paying MediCaid, paying VA... if you've been told otherwise, you're either being lied to or are being scared into believing their tripe.

My state tax went up $529 in one year in michigan, snyder said, it could happen in some instances, unless you are rich, then no increase, we need revenue, and to create more jobs, there you have it. he wants to take your $20 an hour job, and make 2 ten dollar an hour jobs, now thats job creation, nevermind thats a starving wage, you got a job dont you? and the unemployment goes down, they would have you believe thats a win win senario, while their profits skyrocket
