Another mustache razed for charity

(CNN) - Clipping political mustaches became a bi-partisan affair Friday.

Republican strategist and CNN contributor Alex Castellanos said farewell to his long-standing facial hair - which he joked started growing when he was "about two or three years old" - on Friday as his mustache was shaven on CNN's "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer."

Castellanos committed to the clip in December if 500 new donors would contribute to Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy. The group has picked up 524 new donors and raised over $115,000 since December 7, when he issued the challenge.

"It's a Cuban thing," Castellanos said of his prized mustache, which he has grown for 40 years. "This is worse than taking away your cigars if you're Cuban."

He chose the charity and the shave after David Axelrod, a top adviser to President Barack Obama, sacrificed his own 'stache on MSNBC.

Before the election, Axelrod bet his facial hair that Obama would win Michigan, Minnesota, and Pennsylvania in the presidential election - states some Republicans suggested they could make competitive.

Obama won each of those states as many political watchers expected, so Axelrod extended the bet: he would shave if $1 million was donated to the epilepsy group.

The Axelrods' daughter has epilepsy and his wife chairs the organization.

Axelrod's shave inspired Castellanos to make his bet.

"We're going to show that bipartisanship does live in Washington still and we'll get rid of this mustache," Castellanos said in December. "David and I do have a lot in common."

A newly clean-shaven Castellanos said Friday he felt "completely naked" without his facial hair.

He took a call on "The Situation Room" from former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who said the strategist "looked great."

"His smile looks a lot better, that's for sure," Bush said. "I think this is going to help sustain his television career for sure."

I am wondering whether this is also included in the Indian prophecy years ago that just before The Lord Jesus comes back men and women will look alike.
