Rand Paul: Christie threw a 'tantrum'

(CNN) - Could a primary battle already be underway for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination?

Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky took a swipe at New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on Friday for his recent attacks against the National Rifle Association. Paul further argued the outspoken governor threw a "tantrum" when he recently criticized lawmakers in Washington over the Superstorm Sandy relief package.

Neither elected official has shot down the idea of running for president in 2016, fueling speculation that both are mulling a White House bid.

In an interview with conservative radio host Laura Ingraham, Paul mentioned Christie as an example of a high-profile Republican who's not standing up for Second Amendment rights in the ongoing gun control debate.

Christie made headlines Thursday for going off about a new NRA political attack ad that makes mention of the president's children. Calling the commercial "reprehensible," Christie said the organization lost credibility with the spot.

Paul, however, said Christie was hurting his own party.

"You have some Republicans backing down like Christie backing down and criticizing the NRA, and I think that doesn't do us any good," Paul said. "So I think Republicans do need to stand more firmly on this issue."

Asked why he thought Christie was going after the NRA, Paul said the governor may be trying to shore up votes for a potential bid down the road. He also pointed to Christie's biting comments against House Speaker John Boehner earlier this month for delaying a vote in the House on the $60 billion-plus federal aide package for Superstorm Sandy.

"I think he may be solidifying his support with Democrats in New Jersey and maybe liberal Republicans. If he wishes to do something nationally, I think criticizing the Second Amendment movement and the over-the-top, 'give me my money' stuff, 'I want all sixty billion now or I'll throw a tantrum'–I don't think that's going to play well in the Republican primary."

Paul argued that Republicans took issue with how the bill was being funded, not the purpose of the bill, itself.

"I think people need to think through what their positions on these things are," he said.

And Rand Paul is a whiner, literally! He is certainly more to the right than his father and will not get the support of the moderate middle. I think it is pathetic that the Republicans skewer one of their own every time one dares to disagree with the party's positions. They keep referencing Reagan, but were he alive, he would be also be disowned because he did not hold the extreme views of the current Republican leadership.

No matter what Christie runs as I will never vote for him for any office what so ever. He lost all credibility with me after sucking up to obama on obama's post Sandy photo op.

chris christie is a fraud. wolf-in-sheep clothing. lest all you libs fall over yourselves licking his soles, please realize he is pandering to a new jersey audience. besides he's very obese. america will never elect a person as obese as christie president. not fair, but true. if christie really wants a shot at 2016 i suggest slim-fast,sensa, or any other diet pushed by Dr. Oz. Or he can just shed his sheep clothing.

The Pauls will always get press coverage because of the insanity that spews every time one of them starts flapping his jaw. You cannot win the Presidency when your constuency numbers in the low single digits percentage wise – and that's of Republican conservative primary voters.

Excuse me? Tantrum? Who is Rand Paul to say anything about the conduct of anyone. This certifiably off-the-edge political being is a cancer on our legislative system. His offensive oral emissions add to the flammable vapor content of our breathable air.

Mr. Paul – do everyone a favor and find another career. Perhaps as Mr. Grinch or Hannibal Lecter?

I guess Rand will use his redneck supporters to step on some defenceless young woman's neck or undersized guy because the little boss hog will never go one on one with someone his size. Christie will wipe the floor with this punk he is like his old man a nut, he represents a state that inbreeding is the norm.

I think he is trying his best given the situation he inherited with a Bad Economy & so much money owed for useless wars under W. I like his views on Healthcare & Gay Rights. Fair on the Economy but anything was better than Mitt Or another W.

Christie is nothing more than a bully – This is one independent conservative that would vote for obama before christie. Liberal progressives are known as bullies and racists.

I am a very liberal democrat. Christie is doing what he is supposed to be doing – defending and advocating for the state he was elected to serve. I have nothing but the utmost respect for what he has done and for what he has been saying. He is rational and pragmatic. I truly do not believe that he does what he does for national popularity but he does what he does because he believes what is right. People like Rand Paul just say what they do because they believe it will further them in the future. No sane person can believe that background checks are bad and that multi magazines are necessary.

posters here are rather shallow and leaning too far to the left to remain vertical. Rand Paul is an upstanding senator and should be given respect for the patriot he is. Christie is a politician, which fixes him as a wind vane willing to go whichever direction the winds blow. We need rudders like Rand Paul to guide the country out of the morass the gd democrats have placed us, not wind vanes. Wake up fools.

Rand Paul needs to go home and grow up. Boehner will never grow up. Christie needs to change parties and run as a Democrat.

If Mr. Obama is really an American Citizen, why is he ashamed to show his birth certificate. I really do not believe that he is a citizen. His wife, in my opinion, is the most racist person in all of America. On TV she always talks to/hugs black children, but never a white child. Let's be realistic–what has either one of them done for America????

If indeed Guv Christie threw a fit....way to go man! If that is the only way you can get these idiots attention, well, I rest
my case. Shame on those who dragged their feet crying & screaming that they didn't want to help those folks in despair.
Another thing, when P.Ryans state was in crisis he expected the gvt. to come to their aid....he's got different rules for
different folks....and, he wanted to be v.p. of this great nation???? SHAME, SHAME SHAME!
