(CNN) – As the hours wind down to President Barack Obama's inaugural address, the White House says they see Monday's remarks as one in a series of speeches laying out the president's vision for his second term that started with his victory on election night.
The tone of Obama's inaugural address will be "hopeful," White House senior adviser David Plouffe told CNN's chief political correspondent Candy Crowley from the National Mall in Washington.

"What he's going to do is remind the country that our founding principles and values still can guide us in a changing and modern world," he said Sunday appearing on CNN's "State of the Union." CNN reported as of Saturday the president was still working on his inaugural address, according to a source with knowledge of the president's speech.
Vice President Joseph Biden was sworn in Sunday morning and the U.S. Constitution mandates that Obama be sworn in before noon after which his second term will begin. The inaugural parade and the president's speech on West Front of the Capitol after ceremonially taking the oath of office will happen Monday.
"He's going to talk about the fact that our political system doesn't require us to resolve all of our disputes or settle all of our differences but it doesn't compel us to act where there shouldn't and is common ground. He's going to make that point very clearly."
Plouffe underscored that Obama's State of the Union address, to take place February 12, will present a more specific "blueprint" of the next four years.
Asked by Crowley if bipartisanship had slipped from the administration's focus since the election considering the sharp rhetoric over issues like raising the debt ceiling and gun legislation in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook massacre, Plouffe pushed back.
"Our point was that we are trying to enlist the American people in these debates. The only way change is really going to happen and we really make progress is for the American people – it's one of the lessons of the first term – they need to be involved at the center of this and pushing here," he said.
"The barrier is there are factions here in Congress, Republicans in Congress, that are out of the main stream so we need to bring the American people into these debates."
As for what's next for Plouffe, who managed the president's successful 2008 presidential campaign, the White House adviser said he's just focused on this week.
"Six years ago today we were just starting our primary campaign and so this is a remarkable journey and we are all just going to try to enjoy this week," he said.

Thank God...America has changed. The NARROW MINDED, are now the MINORITY!
"I do believe that Obama is hard working President who is doing his best to move USA forward in right direction. Problems did NOT appear over night and can NOT be solved over night. I do NOT agree with everything what he did during his first term, but definitely he has the best vision how to win the future for USA. I gave my full support to him and his Team to prevent gridlock in Congress, for “Economic Patriotism” , gun control… I am optimist about USA future."
This is no day to celebrate people. The real "misery" is now about to become reality.
Obama has managed to fool all who voted for him. The only pleasure we sane people of this Republic can take is watching the dumbfounded faces of his uninformed voter base realize they have been taken for a ride. Their taxes are going up, not down stupid. Obamacare is going to wreck the best healthcare system in the world. He's regulated the energy sector to insure that high energy prices are the "new normal". And if he can pull it off, he'll also take your constitutionally alowed fire arms. What the hell is there to celebrate morons?
This country tossed away fiscal sanity, liberty, functional govt. and replaced it with runaway spending, loss of liberties and a govt. that is obese with little hope of going on a diet. The only remedies now are huge tax increases, because that's all people of Obama's ilk can come up with as solutions.
May 2013 be tiring and burdensome for those who voted for this fool. You have it coming.
Hopeful tone? Try this.... We have taken more of your money, not just the rich but all. We are not giving you a choice on Obamacare, you will be in it or you will pay a penalty, sorry a TAX. I have lied to all of you yet you put me back in office to destroy more of your lives. People like Meka think that the narrow minded are the minority? Ha, seems to me that those same majority that put this crook in office seem to forget all of the broken promises this hack made them.
Enjoy.....
President Obama has spent the last 2 weeks denouncing his opponents in the most brutal terms, playing to his base of supporters at the expense of the 48% who did not vote for him and the majority who voted for Republicans to lead the House. The liberal media is having such a clollective orgasism leading up to the Presidents inaugrural today that their facade of objective journalism is not just cracked as it has been for the last 4 years but shattered.
The time is now to lead all America. The President is the only official in Washington who is elected by all the people, he needs to lead. I hope he will
There is absolutely nothing hopeful about a second Obama term as he leads the U.S. a rapidly as possible toward becoming a socialist state with overwhelming debt issues and a populace increasingly characterized by an entitlement perspective on life.
"... strike 'hopeful' tone ..."
I'm 'hopeful' he will do more that pay lip service. He needs to get things done.

My middle class taxes have gone down under Pres. Obama.
My health insurer can no longer refuse claims that he used to deny in the past.
In 2008, a barrel of oil hit $147 and a gallon of gas hit nearly $5. The price dropped during the last 3 months of 2008 because of the sudden drop in demand, but mainly because of the oil over-suppy that was instigated by all of the oil futures that had been purchased for delivery 3-6 months out.
The prices were higher in 2008 than they have been at any time under the Obama administration. This "new normal" that you're referring to actually came into being under George W. Bush. The increase in prices since early 2009 simply reflect the natural forces of supply and demand: increased demand from a strengthening global economy.

The overwhelming majority of Americans believe that we have a fundamental problem with spending, and neither Obama nor the Dems are willing to even discuss it. And the REPUBLICANS are out of touch???
Some truly hilarious comments here, from people without ideas who repeat what they're told by the denizens of the Right. These same folks predicted the End of Democracy after the last election. Gun shops did record breaking business because Obama Socialists were going to annul the Second Amendment. Even after four years have passed, and none of the dire predictions came true, they continue to rant their poorly written script.
He's shown he's more of a divider than uniter.

He's shown he's more of a divider than uniter.
================================================================================================= You mean "uniters" like the Republican Party who pledged on Inauguration Day of 2009 to obstruct all progress? You mean the "let's pull together" crowd conservatives worship on Fox News? Could you be talking about the Tea Party – with the racist signs and slogans highly visible at every rally. Possibly you mean the "birthers". Delusion...
Rudy NYC- If you work your taxes have GONE UP! You're in denial.

really? so it wasnt Obama that put forward a plan to the repubs that had a higher ratio of cuts to tax increases on the rich? and it wasnt the repubs that refused to even discuss it because of those increases?
hope don't pay the bills.... 4 years and still massive unemployment. thanks for nothing.

No, my taxes went down during Obama's first term. Everyone's taxes went down during his first term. And, that also goes for people who don't work for a living: people like Mitt Romney.
If your taxes went up, then I suggest that you have a nice sit down and chat with whomever prepares your taxes.
@Rudy NYC....BS, I am directly in the middle class catigory and my taxes went UP, Starting Jan 1, 2013 my taxes went up by over 50 bucks a check!!!!!! Please stop saying things you wish happened and look at the FACTs!!!
In the spirit of bipartisan cooperation Mitch McConnel said the Republicans will do everything they can to make Obama a 2 term president.
speeches, speeches, speeches.... but where are the jobs obama? 4 years later and still millions and millions unemployed. and all you give us is speeches, speeches and more speeches. we're doomed.
There isn't anything "you people" (SuperD, Ancient Texan, etc.), can say today that would upset me. The POTUS (Barack H. Obama) was just officially sworn in for his SECOND term in a beautiful ceremony watched by people all over he world who send best wishes. Sooner or later, you'll comprehend the people voted and decided he was the BEST person to not only lead our country, but to represent us to the world but go ahead, and can call him all the disrespectful names you want, but this country will no longer be represented by "your type" and the world is better for it.
One day we can look back and say what happened to the United States of America it's gone and we have Obama and the stupid people out there that have their hands out to thank and they will say where is my check Putin.
Sometimes people need to read not just listen to what the liberal media is saying. There are many books on how to bring down a Country and one big one is make the economy fail and Obama has done a great job with that. The next thing is disarm the people and control what they hear and read by the media and that's almost done.
Rudy in NY before you say anything look at history and you will see what I mean. Take away from the have and give to the people that don't have and will not work for it, disarm the people, control what the people hear and read, have more people dependent on the government, we are already spending more than we take in now, then we can start acting like robots and bowing down to our leader because that person will be in charge and the people will have no voice.
what's up
"The community organizer started playing president four years ago with a 7.8% unemployment rate and today he will begin playing president for four more years with an unemployment rate of 7.8%. That's an achievement only an incompetent community organizer can be proud of!"
The president took office four years ago with a net job loss of almost 800K per month thanks to the previous administration. He returns to office four years later with a net job gain of 200K.
Still more to do, but that is ONE of the achievements the President can be proud of.

Too late for you, I see. The blue states are net contributers in federal funds, and most all have state income taxes. Meanwhile, the top 10 worst states who take more federal funds than what they pay in are all red states. Most of those states have no state income taxes, either.
As for taking your guns away.....Believe it or not, there was a time not too long ago when the right wing was all for restrictive gun control laws.
I recall a time when conservatives when all in favor of restrictive gun laws, most especially a Republican governer by the name of Ronald Reagan. You see, Dutch had a problem known as The Black Panthers. They had all sorts of automatic weapons, and would walk the streets with them. They even carried them into public buildings. So, Dutch was real big on banning automatic and semi-automatic weapons. Dutch led the charge across the nation.
