Some GOP-led states look at electoral vote changes

Washington (CNN) - If at first you don't succeed, try to change the rules.

A proposal under consideration in Virginia's Republican-led state legislature would change how the commonwealth allocates its 13 electoral votes in the wake of Democratic President Barack Obama's re-election last November.

Where's the part about the absolutely disgusting shenanigans the VA GOP/Teatrolls engaged in to get it passed in the VA senate? Go ahead, CNN, whitewash their efforts to kill America's democracy and rig it in their favor by devaluing peoples' votes. You've really and truly become nothing more than Faux News lite.

Shorter GOP/Teatrolls: "Well, crap, it looks like legislation trying to suppress "them" from voting won't work, so we better switch to making "their" votes count for less."

Wouldn't it be easier if they just came up with policies people would vote for? Is that so hard?

Yea so typical of the repuks, when you can't win votes by a majority of the people you change the rules to win by STEALING them. But America, the repuks now see 'change is needed to become a winning party again'. Just a different version of the same OLE' repuk LIES.

The party of the Christian Right, the billionaires, the corporate elite, and the military-industrial complex needs to have a schism. Hope they go the way of the American Whig party. We need to go by a popular vote count and do away with the electoral college now. So tired the Republican party voting to legislate morality. Women stock up on all your abortion pills and birth control if Republicans get their way. So glad Willard is on the planet of kolob.

yeah let them try it and just like the voter suppression stuff they tried it will backfire in their faces. There is an old saying and since Republicans claim to be so pious they should know it..."GOD DON'T LIKE UGLY" I wonder if Romney learned it after running a campaign full of untruths and half truths..see where it got him!

When we win or lose based on acres instead of votes, it will be time to use those guns.

Look at them in the picture above. A bevy, nay, frenetic activity. I haven't seen them work this hard since they spun that story about how we had to attack Iraq and if you weren't for us you were against us. Wave your damn flag! Wave it!!!

First voter suppression against minorities, now this dirty trick. If the GOP "leaders" can't win fairly, they desperately try to change the rules.

    It's disgusting.

Yet another reason why we HAVE to make sure this bumper crop of Rethuglikkklans do not find themselves in the majority, anywhere.
Their plans for this country are selfish, greed-driven, nefarious, and they have nothing to do with the welfare, protecting of our rights, and the well-being of us the voters. It is ALL, ALL about them and maintaining and incrementing the staus-quo of their benefactors.
What they are accusing President Obama of doing is nothing but them projecting and pulling a Jedi mind-trick on the feeble-minded easily duped hate-filled rabble.
Look over there! Obama is trying to take away your guns. Meanwhile they are effectively taking nullifying if not outright taking away our VOTE.
Hold tight to those guns you'll need them but not against whom you think.

CNN, where is the reporting please about what GOP senators did in VA on Martin Luther King Day (of all days) against minorities while Sen. Marsh, a civil rights hero, was innocently attending the inauguration?

Please report this reprehensible behavior. Americans deserve to know.

GOP is a party of losers who can't win without vote rigging! They are forgetting that Obama will leave office in 2016. Obama's political strategy has exposed the various factions in the GOP. This will continue to undermine any effort to unite behind a single message. I am glad Republicans are sticking to their 2012 strategy. This strategy will effectively ensure that republicans never step in the White House for sometime to come. Better yet, with country growing more diverse, they will never get a majority if their strategy is to cheat rather than abandon antediluvian ideas.

    @ Marty, FL:

I'm not sure if I want to thank you for reminding me of this story. I heard it on TRMS, and then it died a quiet death.
However I do believe that folks should know about it, I also believe that that won't happen through CNN journalism.
Here's the gist of it....on a FEDERAL holiday no less these people were hard at work bucking the dream.

"By his count, the map approved by Virginia state Senate Republicans could leave Democrats with as few as 13 winnable seats in that chamber, which currently stands at 20-20.

The sudden redistricting passed 20-19, because a lone Democratic senator had gone to Washington for the day, for the Inauguration. Senator Henry Marsh is 79, a Civil Rights hero in Virginia, and he wanted to see this inauguration, on Martin Luther King, Jr., day, and while he was gone, Republicans redrew the state for their own advantage"

You can't make these people up.

Ya....no. The GOP is broken and you aren't going to fix it by stacking the deck in an election. It's exactly maneuvers like this that have hurt the GOP and allowed the most corrupt administration in US history another four years.

You need to understand that blind faith to a party brand has brought about major troubles for the GOP. It's the same blind faith you consistently demonstrate on here for the Democrat brand. If you spend all your time focusing on hating Republicans and no time holding your own party accountable, you are going to see the same thing happen to the Democrats before long.

    Great comeback Sniffit.
But ig begs the question to the moderators: Why would you even post that comment about the First Lady of the United States? How does that comment tie into this story? It was meant to disrespect the FLOTUS, had no relevance to this story, and you CNN posted it.

Can't steal the election, can't suppress the vote enough, can't buy it either. What is one to do? Baggers are so disgusting and pathetic.

If you can't win honestly – well, then you don't deserve to win. You can try to change the rules but it will not work out well for you here in Pennsylvania. You tried to cram voter ID down our throats before the election and we stopped you cold. We are still watching what you're trying to do. It will cost all of you re-election. That is something I can guarantee. You over played your hand and are no longer trusted in Pa.
