(CNN) - One day after Fox News confirmed that it and Sarah Palin had parted ways, the former Alaska governor spoke out Saturday on why she decided to leave her gig as a paid contributor.
In an interview with the conservative news outlet Breitbart, Palin said she wants to share her values "more broadly" rather than "preach to the choir."
“The message of liberty and true hope must be understood by a larger audience," she said.
Palin's contract ended at the end of 2012, but a source close to Palin told CNN that the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee turned down a recent offer to renew it.
Palin said the 2014 mid-term elections will be "imperative" and advocated for who she described as anti-establishment conservatives.
"It’s going to be like 2010, but this time around, we need to shake up the GOP machine that tries to orchestrate away too much of the will of constitutional conservatives who don’t give a hoot how they do it in D.C.," she said.
Palin was not specific about her long-term plans, saying "the door is wide open." The three-question interview was published by Stephen K. Bannon, who directed a documentary about Palin called, "The Undefeated."
The Republican National Committee gathered last week for its winter meeting, where several GOP leaders argued the party needed to make serious changes in messaging and outreach to become more inclusive. Last year's presidential election results show that President Barack Obama overwhelmingly won African Americans, Asians and Latinos.
Palin, however, said some in the party are being "skittish" because of the election results.
"They shouldn’t be. Conservatism didn’t lose. A moderate Republican candidate lost after he was perceived to alienate working class Reagan Democrat and independent voters who didn’t turn out for him as much as they did for the McCain/Palin ticket in 2008," she said, adding the election was “defined by a biased media plus millions of voters who sat it out in disgust.”
Asked for her reaction to the idea that she and the tea party no longer hold as much sway, Palin said the fight hasn't even begun.
"I was raised to never retreat and to pick battles wisely, and all in due season," she said. "When it comes to defending our republic, we haven’t begun to fight! But we delight in those who underestimate us."
- CNN’s Ashley Killough, Gregory Wallace and Peter Hamby contributed to this report.
Someome please toss some water on her so she'll melt and go away.
poor Ms. Palin, please go away
No comments after 1 hour – nobody cares about Sarah & the TP's!:/
"When it comes to defending our republic, we haven’t begun to fight! But we delight in those who underestimate us."
It's impossible to underestimate Sarah Palin.
Palin left fox because no one wants her around anymore. She's a loser, plain and simple. Those bullying tactics she and tod dud used in Alaska don't work on Americans. It doesn't work there anymore either. They don't want her back. Man in her on town have publicly stated so. She's nothing but a worn out mouth with crazy ideas. She needs to go to Russia where she claims to have watched it all those years from her back yard!
Nobody underestimated the GOP, they had far right candidates and farther right candidates, nobody wanted them. Until they define who they represent, the rich or the middle class they will continue to flounder.
"When it comes to defending our republic, we haven’t begun to fight! "
I'm sorry, the most important fight of your lives just ended and your totally out of touch party really took a shellacking. So when do you plan on beginning to fight?
"Undefeated".. ahahah .. omg.. I just .. hahah.. ahhahahahhah!
I see Palin is as adept as ever at defining reality her own way
Denial is an ugly thing
Who with grain of common sense would believe this woman, She has been wrong about almost everything other than she can see Russia from her house even thou it is still a good distant. Her family has proven to be a disaster. GOP doesn't want to hear her name "W". Both were disastrous to the GOP.
She will be fighting with herself. No one cares a hoot what she does or says. It will not hurt if she and her cohorts from the TP continue to dismantle the GOP. I just pray that Hilary runs in 2016 so DEMS can lock up first female president following first black and really make the GOP irrelevant.
Woops, she did it again:
"skittish" (adj.): of people: lively and unpredictable; playful
"skittish" (adj.): of horses (and other equines): nervous, inclined to shy
If she's gonna softball them like that, I'm gonna quit trying. She's just not fun anymore.
Um, Sarah, someone should have explained to you that you have no credibility with anyone except Fuxnews viewers.
Ride off into the sunset!
'In an interview with the conservative news outlet Breitbart, Palin said she wants to share her values "more broadly" rather than "preach to the choir."'
Wait a minute. She's telling a conservative news outlet that left another conservative news outlet so she no longer has to "preach to the choir". This lady never ceases to amuse.
I hope she runs for office – best thing that could happen to the Democrats.
She still doesn't get it!
oh puke. She got canned because like anything else, you can only look at someone's good looks for so long before you start to see that there isnt any substance here. My wish, is that she just go away. She has nothing to offer in the world of politics or governing.
She needs to disappear or go hunting somewhere far away.
Hey Sarah, your 15 minutes is ovah. Go shoot a moose or sumthin'.
Could she have rattled off any more platitudes and clichés when trying, so absurdly, to explain her reasons for leaving FOX?
All I see missing is a, "You betcha!"
And an acknowledgement that her 15 minutes was up a long time ago.
Ms Palin fails to realize that the GOP (conservatives / republicans / whatever name you want to use) were defeated in November. They put up the best candidate they had and then they lost. However, as the movie title (The Undefeated) suggests, she seems incapable of grasping reality.
It is disturbing that the republicans believe they are entitled to govern this country and their way is the Only way. This attitude that denies anyone who does not believe what they believe is as un American as communist or facists. This attitude appears most often in the uneducated, the greedy and the wealthy segments of this country. Ms Palin certainly falls into the uneducated and greedy catagories.
The Tea Party's 15 minutes in the spotlight has passed. Goodbye, Sarah.
Bull. She was fired because Fixed calculated that her economic value had been wrung dry, her freak show was no longer a draw.
And she's such an ego case that after she's been fired even by Faux, she STILL thinks she's somehow relevant.
And yet, she's one of the most nationally-known Republicans. What des that tell the world about the nature of the GOP?
