Skeptical congresswoman challenges Obama to skeet shooting match

(CNN) - It's about time for some bipartisan...skeet shooting?

Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tennessee, joined a chorus of skeptics who questioned President Barack Obama's recent comments about his hobby of skeet shooting, a sport where participants fire shotguns to break airborne clay disks.

"If he is a skeet shooter, why have we not heard of this? Why have we not seen photos? Why hasn't he referenced this at any point in time?" Blackburn said Monday on CNN's "Erin Burnett OutFront."

"I tell you what I do think," she later added. "I think he should invite me to Camp David, and I'll go skeet shooting with him and I bet I'll beat him."

Obama said in an interview published Sunday by The New Republic that he won't ignore the concerns of hunters and sportsmen as his administration pushes for tighter gun laws. To illustrate his point, he added an anecdote about his previously unknown penchant for shooting.

"Up at Camp David, we do skeet shooting all the time," he said, responding to a question about whether he had ever fired a gun. He also added he has included guests on his skeet shooting outings.

Some found the comments puzzling and wondered why he hadn't mentioned his gun experience in the high-profile firearm debate over the past six weeks. The remarks especially fired up some conservative blogs and news outlets.

"We had this debate that is ongoing," Blackburn said. "You would have thought it would have been a point of reference."

When asked by Jessica Yellin, CNN's chief White House correspondent, how often the president goes skeet shooting, White House press secretary Jay Carney said earlier Monday that he doesn't know.

"He does go to Camp David with some regularity, but I'm not sure how often he's done that," Carney said during the daily press briefing.

Pressed further if there was a photograph of the president taking part in the sport, Carney said "There may be, but I haven't seen it."

"Why haven't we heard about it before?" Yellin continued.

"Because when he goes to Camp David, he goes to spend time with his family and friends and relax, not to produce photographs," Carney said.

I hope they realize that if they ever get another one of their puppets in the White House, he or she can expect this kind of treatment in return.

The amount of misinformation by people is predictably sad. Even the people spouting off about target sizes and gun gauges and acting as if others are foolish is completely dead wrong. Skeet and Trap are both very specific clay target games. There are actually several varieties of each, such as Trap Doubles, Handicap Trap, American Skeet, International Skeet, and so on. All these games use one size target- 120 mm. Skeet is shot in four gauges- 12, 20, 28 and .410. Trap is shot with 12 gauge generally. In the end, most of the non-shooting public (and much of the non-clay target shooting shooters) say 'skeet' to mean 'any clay target I shoot at, like when me and my buddies throw them with a hand thrower.' In the end, who cares? If he shoots, he shoots.

Henry B and Jean. The reason it makes a difference is that he portrayed himself as doing it on a regular basis. If he lied about something so insignificant, then he lies about other important matters.

A real skeet shooter would have said "...we shoot skeet..." This is a subtle difference but it shows a huge gap in the Presidents credibility.

So is she trying to say he doesn't shoot skeet or that she is a better skeet shooter? You know these are the problems that are facing our country right now and we need to get this straightened out so we can move forward as a nation.

    They doubted his Christianity.
    They doubted his citizenship/birthplace.
    They doubted his patriotism.
They doubted his confirmation of Osama's death.
They doubted his legitimacy in the oath he took as President.
    They doubted his Benghazi knowledge.
They doubted his skeet shooting at Camp David.

    Anyone see a trend here?

If the President said he went to the bathroom, the GOP would be skeptical. If the Congresswoman wins the match, does that mean the President was not truthful? Is there anything Congress is doing that is more important then the President's skeet shooting? Guess not.

@Julie – it makes NO difference. Period. Quit justifying the petty BS from the Republicans! How bout the Republicans work with Obama to get this nation fixed, instead of ripping him at every corner? Really, skeet shooting is what they want to focus on....how bout national debt, unemployment, etc. etc. etc. The problem is that the public justifies this BS. It's like Newt Gingrich carrying the torch to crucify Clinton when he himself had done it multiple times....LOL. This crap has to stop.

This entire story is a red herring.
The 2nd Amendment has very little to do with hunting and everything to do with discouraging tyrants.

Actually it has to do with the security of a free State, but I wouldn't expect you to know that. You're the one we'd be shooting at. "Tyrants," indeed. And rebels, and other troublemakers and outright criminals - our well-regulated Militia is about keeping things peaceful for *us*, not indulging your self-aggrandizing wet dreams of playing Pippi Leatherstockings.

I couldn't calre less about whether he shoots skee tor not, that has nothing whatever to do with the second amendment. The founders of this country didn't write the second amendment in support of a hobby. Besides, every other word out of the president's mouth is a lie, many of them far bigger than this, so I don't know why anyone would expect anything different now.

Is there anything the President says that the Repubs don't yell liar about -EVEN during a State of the Union speech??? This ia only a Fox talking point and actually points to Republican desperation to thinly veil they are working AGANST the country and actually SOLVING problems-they intend to do this until they disappear as a party-they fail to see the people are tired ot their tactics and that these tactics are ruining the party-as Bobby Jindal said we have got to stop being the stupid party-and they are ignoring him to their detriment
