Skeptical congresswoman challenges Obama to skeet shooting match

(CNN) - It's about time for some bipartisan...skeet shooting?

Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tennessee, joined a chorus of skeptics who questioned President Barack Obama's recent comments about his hobby of skeet shooting, a sport where participants fire shotguns to break airborne clay disks.

"If he is a skeet shooter, why have we not heard of this? Why have we not seen photos? Why hasn't he referenced this at any point in time?" Blackburn said Monday on CNN's "Erin Burnett OutFront."

"I tell you what I do think," she later added. "I think he should invite me to Camp David, and I'll go skeet shooting with him and I bet I'll beat him."

Obama said in an interview published Sunday by The New Republic that he won't ignore the concerns of hunters and sportsmen as his administration pushes for tighter gun laws. To illustrate his point, he added an anecdote about his previously unknown penchant for shooting.

"Up at Camp David, we do skeet shooting all the time," he said, responding to a question about whether he had ever fired a gun. He also added he has included guests on his skeet shooting outings.

Some found the comments puzzling and wondered why he hadn't mentioned his gun experience in the high-profile firearm debate over the past six weeks. The remarks especially fired up some conservative blogs and news outlets.

"We had this debate that is ongoing," Blackburn said. "You would have thought it would have been a point of reference."

When asked by Jessica Yellin, CNN's chief White House correspondent, how often the president goes skeet shooting, White House press secretary Jay Carney said earlier Monday that he doesn't know.

"He does go to Camp David with some regularity, but I'm not sure how often he's done that," Carney said during the daily press briefing.

Pressed further if there was a photograph of the president taking part in the sport, Carney said "There may be, but I haven't seen it."

"Why haven't we heard about it before?" Yellin continued.

"Because when he goes to Camp David, he goes to spend time with his family and friends and relax, not to produce photographs," Carney said.

" You folks have no idea how funny you are when you overreact on zero evidence of anything. Even better, the nothing you just made up always somehow magically fits into the Big Imaginary Conspiracy that "explains" everything, ever. The President must find it very hard to resist."
I think he has someone on staff to help him psychologically torture the GOP crazies.

It's sad that presidential lying isn't news anymore - has it become that commonplace?

Obama will win because the opponent is a woman. How's that for off-base comments?

I just think Obama got a bit confused. He was referring ti a skeet shooting game that he plays with his Wii or XBox when he is at Camp David. So he did not lie after all. Btw, the noise of his staff supporting his original asserion is deafening! SurprisedHillary did not defend him and corroborated his story during the 60 minutes love fest.

I think Obama should take Ms Blackburn up on her offer to go skeet shooting. Afterall what's the worst that could happen...maybe shoot her in the face? But there's plenty of precedence for that being no big deal.

The Teatards in the country are still absolutely apoplectic over the election.....the nonsense boils from their open mouths like a fast-running river. I especially love the [R] too-stupid-to-stop-self-destruction mode.

Why is it that we doubt every statement made by politicians.
I suggest the following : Very simple...... If any politician is caught out in a lie, he is fined $500,000. Once. Next lie, he is forced to resign his seat. No Pension. No nothing. Simply gone.
I think that will change out politics gor the good.

Obama is a celebrity politician, NOT a leader. He's a bully with a community organizer brain, which means that his preferred style for getting things done is to pit one group (or groups) of people against another.

    -----
A community organizer who WON two elections by voters of (all groups) who overwhelmingly liked his "preferred style".
This statement confirms your stupidity and your jealousy of this president. You're just another loser in society constantly being passed over by minorities.

Why is it NEWS ? Number 2 why does everyone assume he is lying? Everyone needs to step back and say to themselves is this really what we have become. If he says the sky is is blue you will say he is lynig. get a grip already.

This goes so well with Mr. Obama's macho image! He is probably trying to look better than throwing that stupid baseball during opening day. But let's make something positive out of this: let's make noise so that Mr. Macho has a contest with the congresswoman, and the looser donates, say, 10k for Sandy relief. Better, make it PPV and donate the proceedings. What would be wrong with that? I just would love to see Obama holding one of these things...

I, like a lot of people, found the comment very odd and typical out of nowhere-ness that Obama is infamous for. Frankly, I don't believe it. This would have come up FAR earlier in the debates had he really done it. His advisors would have been stomping on his carpet telling him that he should say he shoots.

No, this is a fabrication to try and make people believe the president is "just like us". I'm glad the media, heck even CNN, is calling him to task on it.

Yeah, he's just like all of us regular Joes. He understands us. He's one of US. He shoots skeet ALL the time ...just like all of the rest of us take vacations to Martha's Vineyard, Hawaii and African safaris and shoot on up to NYC in a private jet to take our wives out for a date and play more than 100 rounds of golf in four years and take 131 days of vacation during that same period. Right? Yeah, right.

"Up at Camp David, WE do skeet shooting all the time," he said. He didn't say I do skeet shooting all the time.
"We killed Bin Laden" doesn't mean he was there pulling the trigger. "We invaded Iraq and Afganistan" doesn't mean Bush and Cheney were in the front line. We can be used to generally refer to an event done in a particular place without implying the person using the statement actually did the event.

First of all, there is no proof it is a lie. Second of all, let's talk about the lies that Paul Ryan told.

1- Claimed to have run a sub-3 hour marathon. Not.
2- Claimed to have worked at McDonalds during college as a waiter(?) and saw big Hobarts(dish washing machines?).

    Your move.

A real Tennessean would not question this. How many generations back does her family go. Or is she one of those who married her first cousin or brother. Incest generation after generation cause one to lack critical thinking or reasoning skills.
